  1. I thought we were taliking about scooters ?, we all know kawasaki has no competition in thailand for bigger bikes, ( yet ) especially for the klx/d tracker, but i too wonder why there are no ,or little scooter type kawasakis,. as far as im concerned theres not a bad bike made by the big 4, some better than others maybe,.

  2. If 20,000 baht was not found on them such a short time later, it's possible the Indian guy made this up to try and get extra compensation. Without sounding racist, it's unlikely he would have 20,000 baht in his wallet. The 1,000 baht they took was probably his budget for the next 4 days that's why he was so pissed off.

There are some very well off Indian people make no mistake about that.

    not in Pattaya!

Wrong im afraid, !, my landlord is Indian, he has the biggest seafood restaurant in walking st, and 16 properties he rents out amongst other businesses,. oh and you will say " hes not a tourist " well his relatives that come and visit him are, and they too are business people,.

"Without sounding racist, it's unlikely he would have 20,000 baht in his wallet" ......rubbish, just because hes indian ?. i have friend thats a businssman from india and carries a lot more than that, but hes not into ladyboys !,.. :)
  4. Questions:

    -What's the real deal?

A: You must pay on time

-Can he legally tell the building to turn off my water (water bill was paid in full, and on time!)?

A: There's no law to stop him doing that

-What can he do now that I've obviously insulted him with my closing words?

A: He can refuse to renew your lease and probably will

It may be annoying to you to have to follow your lease payment agreements and especially if you can get away with that in your own country, but many landlords just won't take the risks in Thailand. At the end of the day it is a matter of friendship and trust and i'm afraid you've well and truly blown any chance of that now.

Well id say he is well away from him and that he never was a friend, in fact if it was me id go 2 weeks late then move out and leave the tw@t with an empty house, hes being petty in my opinion turning off the water, and after seeing his true colors his aquantance/friendship was a farce anyway, typical thai behaviour id say, smile at the farang when hes shelling out, shit on him if something goes wrong,.

thx for your answer... it seems you have a disain for ppl who slipped up a few days on rent before. although i'm certain it never happened to you of course, it happened to me. That makes it OK for him to have my water shut off?

Ive also been late paying in the past a few times, our landlord ( an indian businessman ) has never said a word, in fact i once called him from overseas to tell him id be a week late and he told me to relax, no problem,.someont taking these steps after a few days in my opinion is being unreasonable, all you lot shouting its the ops fault are almost as bad as his landlord it seems,. :) .i am also a landlord and if my tenant was to ask for a few days grace id grant it,. ,.no big deal,.
  6. Well it says 62 have veiwed this, no comments ?....am i to assume its not worthy and is normal practice for thailand,...... :)

    Pattaya is not Thailand ....

This is normal practice for bar in Sukhumvit road etc Bangkok and places like Pattaya , Phuket (Patong Beach) and also Koh Samui now

80% of the bars in Pattaya are Russian, Police or militairy "co-owned"

So for any new comming farang with Bar idea's in that area .. you must at least have 10 years of prison in your own country or at least be a little criminal.

    Pieter

Well the last time i looked on the map it was, and its a thai demanding the money,.i now see pattaya as a shithole and best for holidays,as you say visitors to pattaya should be checked for a criminal record, and if they dont have one turned away, :D
  7. Well what i want to know is this normal ?.im not going to say where but i have got to know guy that has a restaurant/bar on the outskirts of Pattaya, the other day i pulled into the car park and saw them ( him and his wife ) sat at an outside table with a thai man,i didnt take a lot of notice, but when the owner came in he looked white, i asked him was he ok and he replied " ive just been asked for protection money ,and if i dont pay ill be popped ! "....he was dead serious, i didnt ask him to elaborate,. i have asked 2 other bar owners and they say yes, this is normal practice, if this is so i cant wait for the thai defenders to come over the hill ( you know who you are mr m ! :D ) personally i think it stinks, and if it were me id be gone, i dont need to live here that bad that id risk injury or worse to my family and me, to say im p'od is an understatement,. as for thais not wanting us here this will prove they do, or who could they extort money from !, yes flame away, im pretty thick skinned, but i wouldnt put up with this sh1t ! ,. :) ,,ps i have to add this is not some seedy girlie bar, its a 35 mill concern,.!

Quite normal and quite serious. My friends business in Patpong was paying 45,000 thb per month and if they didn't pay they would be shut down and licenses revoked. No matter how much your business is worth, in your friends case it is him and his family against the Thai mafia. The odds are not in his favor. In runs much deeper than you think.

Thanks,.they have had an offer on the business, ill suggest he takes it,.
  8. wonder were that 120,000 baht in cash went?? hmmmmmmmmmmmmm also i wud like to know if u do get caught wots the fine a farang wud recieve? cant see a jail sentence for a bit of cards but may be wrong
Heres the reason it was raided, well done, its just another revenue collector, never have i lived anywhere that the laws are made to be broken the same as in Thailand,.

  10. Thanks.

Good info from all respondents, if not what my customer might like to hear.

She can buy what she needs cheaper here so I'll suggest she gets the package returned to the UK.

I personally rarely get anything posted or couriered, relying on friends to bring items out and will continue to do so.

Iwould add, it may be worth a call to them and explain it was declared wrong and that its personal effectswith no resale value and if they dont renegotiate please can you return to sender,.i did bluff them once :)
  11. Why was there no value assigned to the package? I just had a $450 garmin shipped in. It was labelled as a gift and value was $50. Customs ignored it. Not putting a value allows them to decide it's worth.
This is exactly correct, they have "estimated " a value, also probably taking shipping charges into account, im sure as you say if personal effects ( clothing ) was declared at say $50 it would have sailed through .
  12. " There was no value assigned to the package, though Thai customs have created a value of GBP160. She should not be paying anything as she is not importing anything into the country "..WRONG....They ( customs ) see it as in import full stop, whether its used, new, worthless or not, they WILL tax on it,they will also assume that as you have spent considerable money on sending it with an international courier that it has a value higher than that ( the courier charges ), and yes DHL will be in on it as they get a handling fee on the taxes charged,.importing anything into thailand can be very expensive, ive had 2 boxes with a value of 4000 baht and ive paid up to 6000 baht in charges, and it wont make you feel better but DHL are probably the best of the lot ! :)
