  1. Youll struggle to get an accurate answer, ive been 4 wheeling and riding bikes off road all my life and it varies, what vehicle ? gas or deisel ? what speed, etc, i had a citroen zx td in the uk deisel, had 300 miles on it, i went through a flood of about 12 inches and the water came in the air intake which is near the bottom of the engine and i wrecked the engine,,.realistically 12 inches at walking pace with momentum and a bow wave ought to be ok for almost all cars, trucks of course with a higher ground clearance should go more, :)

  2. How did you get the car back???...if it was pawned in Cambodia....You obviously dont know this lady very well as you dont even know the nationality of her husband, and if you know her then you must know where she works/lives so go and get your money back. Take some guarantee in the future, passport, I.D card etc

Went to Chong Chom to pick it up. We had a copy of her i/d card and 500baht deposit. We do trust people, although it seems Thai people are only honest when people are watching. Although then again I can't imagine a Thai man carrying out this scam. It seems only the women are theives and liars.

    I'm curious

How did you find out it was in Cambodia? Surely she didn't contact you and tell you!

You have a copy of her ID with presumably her home address on it. Send the lads down to sort her out!

The thai police are notified by the casino owners then they in turn contact the registered keeper and ask " would you like your car back " ?
  3. Thais dont need a passport to get into cambodia for the casinos,.and its very lax on taking a car in there also,(if a thai ).this is a well known scam involving the kymer casino owners and the thai police, the thai police will get the cars back into a compound across the border then release them to the rightful owner after payment,.

  4. Geez..my point was not about pms or effects of it. It wasnt intended to be an excuse, it was used by way of explaining that i am generally a tad less tolerating at this time. Things that get up my nose just a little bit are heightened. Btw, pms is not a modern phenomena at all, just that from research we can put a name to it. Sorry if you dont like the idea that women have changing hormones guys, but live with it, because we have to as well. :D Also I dont think i posted anything irrational, just posted something that ive noticed for a while but hadnt (until now) felt the urge to say anything about it. No idea why this has been the focus of the topic, in hind sight would have been better to leave that part out! But while we are on the topic..may i take the opportunity to educate that pms doesnt mean a woman is on her period. Its P M S: Pre menstual syndrome, and actually usually occurs before a womans period, but also can occur for a couple of days into her period. Ehh..guys know so little about women! :)

Anyway, replies have been great. I even seem to have provoked such a reaction as to make someone physically sick. :D

    btw NanLaew, Happy Anniversary.

"I even seem to have provoked such a reaction as to make someone physically sick. :D " .....Probably too much chocolate ! :D
  5. Seems this isnt uncommon, a lady iknow in pattaya rented 2 cars to different thai women ( both married to farang ) ,they too crossed to poi pet and borrowed 100.000 on both cars ,the thai police got them back and wanted 200.000 which she had to pay, so if you ever see a rural cop in a bmw or similar know how they got it,. isnt thailand great,. :)

  6. Actually, it is Mia Farang, not 'farang mia'.

In all my years here, I've never met a Thai woman elevated to Hi-So status because of marrying a farang. Hi-So is a commonly misunderstood word. It is not just about money. For example, would a trailer trash American who won the lottery be Hi-So? I've met so many guys who tell me that their girlfriend is Hi-So to find out that their nothing of the sort - usually just middle class ordinary girls.

I have a couple of friends that married Hi-Sos - their wives are both Great grandchildren of a former King.

Most Thais hate Hi-Sos and don't want to be one.

The Lo-So, mostly prostitutes, that have married money from farangland are obvious to all Thais and some foreigners. Dark-skinned, too much gold, toyota hilux or fortuner, tatoo on shoulder. The way they speak too gives it away - 'same same', 'too much', and some Thai(which has been banned from this forum for some strange reason). They'll also open a restaurant called ' Dave and Noi's' or Bob and lek's'.

There's also the Chinese/Thai women whose friends may be jealous because all they think about is money. Their families generally hate farang but are willing to put up with them if there is money in it. They treat marriage like a business.

Superb observation/post, shame it will fall on deaf/stupid ears and the application room at the embassy will be full of euros with a bg on the arm and a beer in the other hand, :) ,bob and leks! :D:D .love it,.
  7. You cant catapault a bg to hi so overnight !,.its normally these sorts that show jealousy, i have friends ( yes i know ) married to bgs and all they do is talk about money, whos got this and that etc..my wife totally ignores and does not mix with these sorts,.again its the type of woman you choose,.if from "the industry" then you wont stop it if they mix with their "friends ". :) .....par for the course id say,...

  8. I think anyone not aware that wearing a 10bt chain is asking for trouble and must have ben living in a cave to not know that,.and it sounds like his thai companion is as thick as him for not warning him, chains stolen in this manner is rife,.its not rocket science is it , if on a bike with anything of value, COVER IT UP !,.

  9. Why are you after the X version and not the R?

The bigger ratio gearbox or you want lights?

R is a moto crosser, X is enduro and road legal, but biggest plus over the R is electric start,.......

I did not ask what the difference is!

Maybe i should not have directed my reply at you, however it was obvious to me that the bikes are totally different and he wanted the x for a reason,.
  10. Have you considered a YZF, I know someone who can import them.
I think the op wants an enduro bike, ie lights/elec start, the yzf is a moto x bike, and has none,.,the yamaha equivalant is the wr450, can your friend import that model ? .....
  11. Looks to me that you are asking for something illegal. :)
How do you work that out ?,i have 3 unregistered bikes, all with import papers only, all used for off road use and in 18 years ive never had a problem, maybe the op wants it for enduro ( as its intended for )
  12. Doubt you will find a new one, however go and see vikrom in red baron in bkk,.if anyone can get one he can,..its a great bike and rare in thailand, i have a yamaha wr, there are a few usually seen on thai websites such as www.mocy.com i think it is,. :) .

  13. Can anyone tell me if this is normal. My sister has just sent my wife a parcel with some baby gifts for our new daughter. When my wife went to pick up the parcel today she was told she had to pay 1200bht for customs!!! The parcel has not been opened and customs have 'assessed' this amount. The value of the contents of the parcel is 27 uk pounds. Is this the norm??? Every day I find at least one reason to sell up and go home!!!!

Best just to stop receiving parcels and make do with what Thailand itself has to offer. That's what I do; works just fine. You don't need any baby gifts, really--and your sister can just wire some money to you easily via Western Union for buying baby gifts here in LOS. The selection is perfectly adequate.

That way, you'll have much more peace of mind and won't need to sell up and go home.

A word to the wise from Dear Abbey.

Great advice ! ... :) do you work for the thai chamber of commerce :D
