Make friends with the security guys, i buy them food and drink ( not booze ) i ask them to pay special attention to my home when my wife and daughter are home alone, i often see him riding around on his bike at between 3 and 5 am when i return home,. prevention is better than cure,sensor spotlights coupled to cctv work too and they are cheap now, if you want some sort of peace of mind do it now ,. if you have to keep a gun under the bed means they have got too close, keep them out !

There is a vast difference between taiwan and mainland china ,even companies like bentley,bmw and toyota have their lighs and other trim items made there, it is a minefield and i could go on for ever, from motorcycle boots that have a made in italy label sewn in them in china ,to triumph motorcycles made in thailand again with made in england on the bikes,.even mercedes and the major manufacturers are at it,.

The way I look at this is that because 2 people want to smoke, the other 38 peole have to breathe in the poison. Why? The only reason that people are allowed to smoke is because of historical reasons, and because people have always smoked in bars. Now is the time to change and create a better future by not smoking in places where other people have to breathe in the smoke.

People go to bars and put up with the people who smoke because they want to listen to music, watch girls, or drink. This is what bars are for, not smoking. As you can see, 95% of the people in the above example were not smoking.

People put up with the smoke because they want to go to the bar. So which is better, having 95% of the people putting up with having to breathe in smoke, or 5% of the people having to walk outside to have a smoke? The smokers will still go to bars, just as the non smokers do now. They will just put up with not being able to smoke because they want to go to a bar.

Your argument is far too logical for the nicotine junkies to understand.

They don't understand the graphic warnings printed on the very cigarette packs that they buy.

They don't understand the consequences they will face for disobeying Thai 'no smoking' laws.

They don't understand why some of their nicotine junkie mates are either dying or suffering from smoking related illnesses.

They don't understand that smoking is now regarded as a filthy, unsociable and disgusting habit.

They don't understand that their breath reeks of a putrid stench and why people stand away from them when they speak.

......I'm sure that there are many other examples that I could list here but they wouldn't understand them.

And what about the putrid stench of beer? Yuk!!

Cigarettes keep me calm and stop me from getting fat . There are a lot worse things to do than smoke a simple cigarette so I wish governments would shut up and let me enjoy my cigarettes in peace.

By the way, I've smoked for 50 years and can't remember the last time I saw a doc!

I have just returned from Pattaya, I saw the ban in place, in all the resturants we used (and rifghtly so) if they wanted to smoke, there were smoking tables outside, but WHAT I cant understand is, the pollution levels are so high, why are the bothered about smoking, sometimes the air stinks of raw sewage (it reminds me of the sanitation block at LHR, its the place they empty the sewage from the aircraft)

All the bars we used, they enforced the ban, UNLESS you were outside the bar and it had an open area, then they just told peple to use the bottle to put their fag ends in, so it wasnt a great problem, BUT as I have said previously, I dont mind people smoking, I was surprised the price hasnt gone up for them, though, they are still very cheap out there (compared to the UK/US/Europe)

The smell of shit never killed anyone, you cannot say that about passive smoking,

I'd say it's not entirely impossible that the English guys might have said something rude. Have seen it happen to much younger folks, both locals and foreigners.

Say something you know you shouldn't and the next thing you know, you're beaten unconscious with your shorts pulled down.

Regardless of what may or may not have been said, there can be no justification for beating an 80 year old man unconscious, in any culture or society.

I thought the Thais were supposed to respect their elders. Obviously that only applies to Thai elders.

My feelings too, there are some people that i would never hit no matter what they said or did, kids, women, and men that cant defend themselves,.but thats me,.some of these thais it seems have no morals whatsoever, however we do have to bear in mind that most of these types populate Pattaya it seems,.,..

Of course, these leisurely strolling tourists would never be rude or obnoxious to any of the locals in the area, even if approached by those not of the desired "type". These tourists would never flirt, fondle and haggle prices with any of those locals, or do anything else which would put them in a possibly compromising position.

I witnessed 'rude & obnoxious' a couple years back. It was around 9pm and I was headed north from Walking Street, beach side on beach road with my sweet eye-candy 19 y-o girlfriend (I am +50 and my body looks 'lived in'), when some youngish farang twerp in singlet and shorts headed the opposite way, moved real close, leering at my squeeze and just as he was passing, looked at me quickly and loudly said, "It's only because you're paying her mate."

I thought, 'You sad <deleted>, young, pissed, penniless and only a snowballs chance in hel_l of getting laid... not worth the agro.'

Its no different to many parts of the worlds beach road, use common sense,( if you have it ) ,. but at Pattayas beach road there are some very nice ladies that arent charging retail,i like it !

What a dreadful sight,i wonder if the old boy "mooned "the Thais and they took offense ? ,.Either way this seems to be the Thai way to sort any indifference,Best try to remember it,.shameful to beat up 2 old boys like this .
