  1. That's good news then. Maybe the wife is running the original one although she must be a fair vintage too. Don't know how many kids they had.

The bloke that was the head waiter for decades is at the Arcoba Leno now.

My wife and I like the Arcoba Leno very much, and go there from time to time. One of the kids, a daughter, is running it, and I have been told by her on a couple of occasions that her mother made the risotto for us that night, which cuts down on, without entirely eliminating, the chance that "the wife" (or widow, if I have understood the earlier posts correctly) is still running the original restaurant.

I'd be interested to know who's running the old one "Babylon". Maybe they sold it to the cook.

  2. C'mon Pattaya is a wonderful place and serves Thailand well.

It keeps the vast majority of the farang "weird pensioners", perverts and drunks and the vast majority of the Thai criminal classes, away from us normal people. Every country should have a Pattaya. :o

  3. What's really needed is for the government to knock down the shops built illegaly in front of Thapae gate. I think Taksin actually bought the ones at the end and had them knocked down. High time the rest were flattened.

how about PM'ING me with the good oil.

Good oil will open many doors, specially if they're made of teak

I went over there but it's rubbish.

These places are what you make them.

That hits the nail on the head. The other forae are rubbish because the participants are utter dross, layabout unkempt farangs who have nothing better to do than press-refresh screen and talk kak. Go to their pizzups, Oh my God, its like a dandruff convention. They should hold the pizzups in a launderette, at least some good would be accomplished.

    Thai visa is the best-moderated, best-participants, best-advertisers.

    :o:D

Please don't ban Barney. We need posters with a sense of humour :D

  6. When did Morris sell True Blue ?

I saw his brother David in CM a few weeks ago......he was returning his wife's ashes to the family. She was killed in a car accident in Oz.

Say's "his wife". Sad, she was a nice person.

    Morriss sold out years ago.

Yes, now that I reread the post I can see that it would mean Morris was the one returning to CNX to return the ashes of his wife. Don't know much about David so I took it to read something different.

I read it as David was in Chiang Mai with David's wife's ashes.

Yes apologies for causing confusion, that's how I read it as well.

Interesting group you've linked me with Lamphun. :D

I know you wouldn't lament if true, but as I am posting daily I'm hardly missing. Unless you are talking about that other forum you usually populate. I haven't been there in months :D

Shake the tall grass and the Old Croc appears. He's been keeping a very low profile of late.

Trouble in garden shed perhaps ? :o

  9. I'll check that out sometime - it is round the corner from me.

Babylon owner (previous owner's daughter) and staff have moved and opened the Arcoba Leno after old Renato died. Same menu and same good quality but bigger premises. Not sure if the old premises in Huay Kaew are being operated by anyone else.

I was there two weeks ago and the menu hadn't changed. Same photos on the wall etc..

  10. Kaspersky has reason to worry. Their entire model depends on signatures already recognized. Fortunately they are very good at this end of it. The AVs that will deal with emerging threats best are the ones who employ the better heuristics that can spot unknown viruses.

So what AV program would you recommend ?

  12. I think she stopped posting them because when she did she got responses like "posts like a man", "come on Scamp you can do better than that" and "shes chubby, not my type".

Maybe she got fed up with Terry trying to chat her up. :o

  13. She did seem to get an over the top amount of flak though Lamphun, virtually every time she posted she took a bashing. Maybe not bullied off the forum but certainly got bored of it easily because of all the sh1t she got.

Graceless Fawn is still here, last online yesterday. She's just stopped starting those blog type threads she seemed to be so fond of.

  14. I like to point out and support worthwhile businesses, so that they will be around for a long time.

It's not easy to survive here with SARS, bird flu, terrorist threats, expensive plane tickets, flower festivals during the height of high season, political termoil and pictures of polluted Chiang Mai all over BBC and CNN every day. :D

    I'll drink to that!

    bravo, ulysses

All very well up to a point, but can I request that from now on, can every Italian who arrives in Chiang Mai please refrain from opening a restaurant.

Chiang Mai the Italian Restaurant Hub. :o

  15. You gotta work on your chat up lines Wolfie. :D

it wasn't a line, it was a promise...

    Now, back on topic?

People are right, I think Gracelessfawn was bullied off the forum, what a shame female posters come on this board and are called the 'Scamp' for the first 6 months. :o

Thomas Merton was great, a nice guy I always found.

Bullied ? She took a bit of flak but I suspect she just got bored.

Thomas Merton was a great fan of himself.

  16. I'm currently looking for a new laptop and came across the Lenovo (IBM) Y400.

    Centrino Core2 Duo T5500 1.66 ghz

    Intel 945GM chipset

    1 GB DDR2 SDRAM

Nvidia Geforce Go 7300 Graphics Card

    DVD RW

    14.1" WXGA TFT

    2 x 1.5W speakers

    Vista Home Basic

The asking price was around 40,000baht

I understand they were only launched in December.

Does anybody own one of these ? If so would you recommend it ?
