1. Hey Kasmax......welcome to the club!

After pining over the MU-7 for months, I, too, am just about ready to put in my order for a MU-7.

As MoonRiverOasis says, car selection will boil down to your personal tastes and what your overall purpose for the car will be. You will have to make a Pros and Cons list of the car's characteristics and decide from there.

TIT: Car selection here as well as features and options, not to mention color selection, leave a lot to be desired from the Ex-pat point-of-view.

But working with the choices we have, and this is the type of SUV you are looking for, the MU-7 Activo Platinum is the 'overall' winner.

So, all-in-all, the MU-7 is the lowest priced SUV with the best features of all the rivals in its class.....hands down!

The only modification other than widow film that I will have done as soon as I pickup my MU-7 is to install 17" or 18" wheels with Michelin Latitude tires - that will make it one real nice smooth riding SUV! (The 16" mfr wheels + the average rated 'Dueler' tires that come with the MU-7 take away from its 'ride' capability).

You can order tint to be fitted at the factory when the SUV is being built. That is how mine (MU-7 Activo Gold) came; mind you I also got it with most of the bells and whistles. They are very quiet inside (well mine is) and not overly noisy on the outside. Get the reversing camera incorporated with the Kenwood Touchscreen stareo, better than some ugly mirror hanging of the back. I'm pretty happy with the ride, so I'm sticking with the 16" wheels. Also Isuzu's after sales service has been excellent. They've always looked after us. The only issue I havd with the car wheh I first bought it, was that the Intercooler rubber boot that seals to the bonnet, was distorted. It got replaced and no dramas since.

2. Hi Gary,

i know what you mean, i'm also working in the Middle East &I drive a Kia Sorento 3.8 litre here.

I have just had my Fortuner chipped (DTE Germany) to about 190 BHP, the brakes & suspension uprated as i miss the power,

Guess its the penalty for livivg in LOS, unless of course you can afford the extortionate prices of an impor t!

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris,

I just checked under the hood and guess what... :) ...well apart from the smiley hint, best I let the photos speak for themselves. For those who don't know, this is the same engine (V6) Toyota use in their Lexus lineup. Variable valve timing as well; no wonder it goes like a scolded cat plus be docile down low and probably why is's not released in... :D

3. I just received my new company car in the Middle East. As much as I like my Isuzu MU7 Activo, I wish I could have this car in Thailand as well. Toyota Fortuner SR5 4.0 LTR (3956cc/241.4ci)) V6, 5 Speed Auto. The usual specs: rear diff lock, cruise control, bigger fuel tank etc. Absolute gobs of torque and power. Put the foot down and the bloody things leaps like a scolded cat. This car has actually been limited to 190kph. One of my co-workers took it for a spin and said it just stopped accelerating as soon as it hit 190kph and it wasn't hanging about up until then. Not that I want to go any faster and for that matter when cruising long distances in the Middle East, most sit on 160kph. Cops don't bother you much if at all out in open country, but obviously in the villages and towns, you're asking for trouble. Probably a good thing I don't have it in Thailand, even though its not available being Middle East spec. I am definitely impressed. :)

4. Too true guys; awhile back my son was doing some basic math, which in my opinion was taking him to long to do. I asked why it was taking so long and it turns out it was how his teacher had taught him. I showed him a way faster method, rather than it would seem the antiquated dogma his teacher was instructing to do the very same math. My son said I should be teaching math in school.

I know teaching respect is a big thing (and a good thing) in Thailand towards your parents, the elderly, monks and teachers, but one has to draw the line somewhere when the teacher hasn't got a clue. I said to my wife, how can you respect someone who isn’t competently educating your children.

5. This is headline news???????????????????????????????????????

You're in the land of a fish sauce consuming population, including myself. It is big news for Thai's and consumers alike :D

i love the taste and the salty flavour it adds :)

but i'm allergic to it! my hands swell up and itch like crazy. i've only just discovered it was that what was doing it ... :D:D

That salty flavor you taste is added salt and MSG (monosodium glutamate or 'pom churot' in Thai). That's a large part of what all the dark colored sauces are at the shops and supermarkets. Few fish have salty taste. The sauces are basically fermented fish entrails, with water and a whole lot of MSG and salt added. If you saw the inner workings of any fish sauce makers, you'd probably swear off the stuff for life. Welcome to Thailand.

Soy sauce is a bit of fermented soy bean, with black coloring, water, and MSG/salt added. Kikoman (from Japan) is comparatively better quality soy sauce, but still has additives. I won't allow MSG in my house. Last year, there was a wedding reception here, and fourteen women (mostly hill tribe, with some Thai) were getting started on the prodigious cooking chores. I saw took two packets of MSG and, with them all watching, I opened them and poured them in the waste can. The looks on their faces were precious.

I haven't heard of anyone being allergic to MSG, but you might check it out. There's a simple way to test for allergens. Take a clean razor and nick your skin, then rub a tiny bit of the item on. If it gets pink (like a pimple) and/or itchy, it probably causes an allergic reaction within your body.

My wife calls MSG, Thai Salt...go figure :D

Tony,

Did you buy the Spiegler lines locally or import? I want some for my 999S. It has aftermarket on it now, but I've always been a Spiegler fan.

Oh and what do I think, the bike looks ace..thumbs up mate.

Thanks

7. Best tried in the Hague if that were possible as there would be a backlash if he were tried and convicted in Thailand, nevertheless megalomaniacs use all their power to destroy their enemies and failing that they destroy themselves trying so it is important Thaksin is neutralized once and for all.
once he sets foot on Thai soil all the red shirts will be around him.

just imagine the drama they just had in the centre of Bangkok. then imagine that as an encampment around wherever he is being held.

they will either have to have him in a 'secret' location which i'm sure would not remain secret for long or suffer total chaos around his location.

either way it would be a martyr in the making

As Steely Dan says, try him outside the country using the tribunal process at the Hague, as then there will be no real possiblity of internal intervention if he was brought to Thailand. If the government is smart, they request that he be investigated & trialed outside the country.

8. I had tyres wear out unevenly traveling long distance in Australia. In my particular case which may not be yours, I was travelling from Townsville to Sydney over several days in the stormy season. I was leaning into the wind for probably a 1/3 of that distance (off & on) and the damage / wear was done to one side. My tyres were a soft compound though and not really a touring tyre.

9. Always thought Chiang Rai was about the safest place in the world. Now ??????

So far I haven't seen any reports of actual violence here, has anyone?

Thinking about it, probably less danger from the Red Shirts than riding my Honda Wave into the city every day.

However, my yellow and red shirts will stay in the wardrobe for a while.

I don't think I'll be wearing any Ducati shirts for awhile myself :D

and my favorite Coke T will have to wait too :)

Come to think of it, should I even ride my very red Ducati :D <deleted> am I laughing for!? :D

10. So did they hire you for your, "over forty years management experience consulting mostly in the hospitality, food & beverage and retail sectors in the US, UK and Europe", or are you doing this out of the goodness of your heart, or are you just a lonely guy? These days it looks like the local hospital is the in place for meeting people. Just a thought.

Food at the Overbrook Hospital restaurant is pretty good and of course nurses in uniforms helps with the viewing pleasure...don't tell my wife I said that :)

Finally someone responds to my humorous, off-color reference, to hospitals as a meeting place. You might be more careful about who you trust, to not inform your wife, however. :D

That's okay, I wouldn't put anything in an open forum unless I wanted it to be there. My wife is right beside me and perving costs nothing and she has the odd perv herself..no harm no foul :D

11. I dont have any license in the UK for bikes.. Yet they always add that level and motorcycles on my IDP when I get one..

Hence you would be licensed.. and if they have insurance also insured.

Your IDP is a translation document, your UK license is the supporting valid document fro you IDP. Unless the UK has some special rule where you can ride a moped or simialr bike under a normal car license. Then normally and entry is made into the IDP to state that as far as I am aware. Be careful, as you could get yours self in deep ka ka, if have an accident and someone really does decide to scrutinize your license information. :D

Incorrect ! Any IDP issued in the UK will duplicate your UK licence 100 % :)

Kimera, I don't want to recall how many threads there are on this subject :D

13. Going by the OP's discription: new Monster 1100 720,000 or Monster 1100 (ABS) 770,000. The new Monster 1100S & 1100S (ABS) are a bit more pricey: 830,000 & 880,000 respectively

Where is any of that in the OP's description ??

Still dont have any idea of the price of this actual bike.. Thats my point..

EASY EASY, I was floating the current market price based off what the OP had stated

Ducati Monster M1100, 2009
. As it will be interesting to see what the asking price will be once known.
14. I can't find the moved details in the "bike for sale" classified section . Is the bike sold already ? Usual questions need to be asked, i.e. Price ? Green Book ? Number of KM ? Place of registration ? Thanks

I would imagine if this bike was bought from Thonglor, it will have a legit greenbook

This is the 'bikes for sale' forum..

It was moved here from the bikes discussion forum.

No putting price and details up is always strange for a for sale listing.

16. What are the surrounding cities and provinces?

How about Chonburi / Pattaya?

I can't find any details. Not that I want to go out today, but maybe still do some shopping.

Cheers

I just called my wife from the middle east and she tells me that a government office/building in Chiang Rai was getting torched by the Red Shirts.

update: I asked my wife was anyone (meaning: the red shirt supporters) in the village talking about the red shirts now and she says that people aren't saying too much at all. With what has happened in the last 24 odd hours, I would assume that they're just a little bit shell shocked/numb in thinking that this wouldn't happen...go figure. :)

17. Much of this could have been avoided if there had been a designated protest site - a large field with basic facilities outside downtown Bangkok. That's what the Cambodians just arranged - for future protests in their country. Granted, it's easier said than done, but if the initial protesters had been funneled to a large field somewhere, then things would not have gotten so far out of hand.

Plus, recent reports of freezing accounts of many big businesses and big shot Thais associated with Thaksin and the Reds is BIG NEWS. You can bet there are a lot of big shots close to the Shinawats, who are cussing and shouting and banging furniture against walls.

Thaskin is definatly the cause and the financial organizer of this protest

Panic and chaos will allow him to return

But the question is

Is Thaskin the head of all of this

or just a puppet himself

There are many of my business friends who say he is but a puppet of The New World Order

and Thailand is a test site for bigger things to come

Those Illuminati fellows are back again...here I was thinking Angel & Demons had gotten that sorted out :)

18. Even with “special” X-ray it can be very difficult to determine if a frame number is real or fake, I have seen shops welding over the frame number and than remove the unnecessary metal by powertools and finally smoothing the who area. Even a forensic expert would have difficulty telling it's fake or not.

Not without cutting or boring through the metal and using a boroscope to see any kind of built up metal layering.

I said difficult not impossible

Oh gawd relax. I wasn't sticking a knife in your back :)
