  1. Beautiful car, terribly expensive, par for the course Thailand.

I thought I would share old against new. I took the photos of the original Gull Wing at the Technik Museum Speyer in Germany last month.

    New again:

Old, but still a mint condition beauty (note: this was also the first mass produced fuel injected car):

edit: sorry all, TV just had a f$&king fit on my post submission

  3. Help, I'm stuck in the west. More auto (girly) pix, please. (And thanks Troy04.)

I've never been to the main auto show at BITEC, never around LOS at the time. But I'll be there next season. If the pix are anything to judge them by, there are a lot of hot girls there. Are those the kind of girls who go to the Thai bars at RCA, Ekkamai, etc.? Oh, well, out of my league anyway.

Q Bar/Club is another one down the back end of Soi 11, Sukhumvit. Went into it with a buddy, seems fairly high end, but the serivce was good and the eye candy.

  4. Someone named "Antony" or "Anthony" has been into the map and moved some places around. I found Chiang Rai Zoo in northern Burma together with the Prawn Farm.

The waterskiplace in Huay Sak was placed south of Chiang Mai!

I have replaced the Zoo and the waterskiplace. Where the Prawn Farm was from the beginning I donot know. Someone might be able to place it right.

The other day I found someone had made a route to Korat or something like thisAND SAVED IT IN OUR MAP. Maybe it was this fantastic Anthony!

If Anthony reads this, DO NOT TOUCH OUR MAP! MAKE YOUR OWN PERSONAL MAP AND PLAY WITH THAT ! THANK YOU!

    :D:):D

I was thinking the same thing last week. Why was a route on our map. I thought it may had been pertinent but it was nothing. This sort of reminds me of that clown Krakatoa in the Chiang Mai burnt down venue thread. Nothing better to do but do or say inane things. I wish these pricks would get a life or go back to whatever miserable life they have and leave the rest of the world alone.

  5. If I had money to burn this would be my urban assault vehicle-

    Ducati_Hypermotard_796.jpg

These new Hypermotards are selling like mad in the 'Kok right now and I've ridden one and it rocks!

    U.G.L.Y. Wot were they thinking?

Funny I think it looks S.E.X.Y.

If money were no object, definitely.

    ducati-hypermotard-796-black-silver.jpg

... Ducati Hypermotard 796. Coming in either a Matte Black, Matte White, and Ducati Red finish. The bike is rumored to priced below the $10,000 mark which will make this a great deal. The bike also features an all-new Ducati 796 engine good for 81hp and incredible fuel mileage, an APTC “wet” clutch offering a slipper action to prevent rear-end destabilization during aggressive down-shifting. The Ducati Hypermotard 796 is set for a November 2009 release.

"Below $10,000" probably translates to $20,000 or THB 660,000 in the LOS. Ok so yeah meanwhile that's only just above 640k but let's not rub it in right now the USD exchange rate is bad enough.

    Close enough;

    B590,000 = USD$18,300

  6. And for only 25 Million Baht you could be the proud owner of this.....

Sent the picture to the kids back home with the caption..inheritance gone.

I was in Germany just recently and saw them advertising the new gull wing merc on tv. Guess who was at the wheel? Michael Schumacher. The advertising showed him doing a sprial run through a tunnel. You didn't know how who it was until the car was stopped and the door opened, with the typical Schuey smirk, nothing said :)

  7. Honestly, as long as the helmet is a known company to me and has the attached or stamped in my case safety standard, then I'm a happy camper. I bought my last helmet at the 2007 Isle of Man TT. It has UK street & racing standards and the price was good as well. If I remember correctly, the NitroTT cost me just over a 100 GBP = roughly 5000 baht.

Bloody nice helmet and not overly expensive. My last racing helmet was a pure white Kevlar/Carbon AGV. Light as a feather (philosophically) and cost me a bunch in Australia.

  8. My main concern about buying any unknown brand (to me) helmets in Thailand is the legality of the competent authority testing decal/label attached or sewn in. I have heard of the fraudulent production of these testing decals/labels in other countries and nothing would surprise me here, so I would rather hedge my bets with a brand I recognise. Each to his own I suppose :)

  9. I expect the suspension will be set for the average weight Thai man, around 65kgs, so may need stronger springs if you weigh more than that. Both bikes get away with being so low because they are so narrow and will not scrape in the corners but it is a good point about pot-holes in Bangkok...

I kind off always thought that all small bikes sold in Thailand were set up to take the weight of the whole family: Mum & dad, couple of kids and the groceries :)

  10. As someone who has been hit by a car here in Thailand I can not believe how excited you guys are getting over these helmets. Seriously. 1800 and 3400 baht? They look like the faceplate will cave immediately upon contact. Would you even look at a hundred dollar helmet in your home country? No thanks. I will continue to wear my my heavy full face Shoei. I know it works. Your head is worth a little more I would think.

    Tim

Well some of us would like a K1000 but can only afford a 135 scooter, same goes for helmets.

Those of us on fixed low pensions/incomes & are at the whim of exchange rates, would love to buy a $500 lid.

We're making the best of a bad job, so, nah, nahny nah nah... :)

It must be nice to be able to brag.

I was not bragging. I am fairly sure my income is probably less than even yours on your fixed income. I saved for it. Up to you to decide what is important for you to spend your money on.

Sort of comes back to the old adage, what's your head worth. But to be honest I want to be around my family for the years to follow. If I had to spend that little bit extra for decent kit, then so be it. Mind you that is my choice, please go ahead with the plastic buckets on your head guys, at least they, the meds, will have something to collect the goo in. :D

  11. When it's a 125cc Wave-i great fun guaranteed ! I learned this is a very good long distance bike, did many times Chiangmai-Maesai-Chiangmai in 1 day, 500km or so no problem. With a 110cc Wave I would never do it, this is a typical girl bike with poor acceleration and not much power, very annoying for long trips.

Ah yes, the 110cc wave is a girlie bike. Real men ride 125cc Waves! :)

    I have a 125 Sonic, does that count :D

Just takin' the piss my friend. :D Sonics look like wicked fun urban assault vehicles- I'm amazed how some of the Thai guys fly through Bangkok traffic on 'em.

No offense taken mate, I was taking the piss as well :D The Sonic is still going strong, I think we've owned it for nigh on seven years now. The only thing it needs now is a new clutch, as its starting to hunt a bit when engaging. Can't complain mind you, its taken my 85kgs flogging it around Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai for all that time. It will have a new bed partner soon though.

  12. Hope you're all aware theWave and its predecessors were voted 'the best bike ever' by Discovery Channel. Chosen by a panel of biker riders, racers, writers, and collectors because of its amazing design, durability, and how it brought bikes to the masses.

A 50 year old design still doing fantastic.

Doesn't the Honda 50 have the highest numbers produced of any motorcycle in production? Pretty sure I saw that on the Discovery channel a year or so back.

The cheap helmets in Thailand make great pot plant containers, that's about it though. I'll stick to my UK, USA or AUS safety spec helmets. I won't an open casket if I buy the big one.

  15. Well, considering I've helped my very young son in the toilet in earlier years (yeah yeah, he's not the father in this case) that I don't get tar & feathered from touching hin on the pecker because he had directional problems and was peeing all over the bathroom and not at the porcelain steering wheel :D Let justice run its course guys before you hang him to the yard arm. If he's bad than so be it, but give justice a chance, sheesh :)

  16. I still can't get over the fact the amount of young people I come across in the small shops, who have to use a calculator to sum up really REALLY simple math. I don't think of them as being dumb or stupid, but hey give it a go, give the grey matter some exercise :)

Try doing it all day, every day and you might just change your mind. On top of that, if you do happen to make a mistake doing it without a calculator, someone might accuse you of cheating them and put it all over the internet. :D

I'm not talking about bulk items, but just some the simple math putting a couple of items together, but anyhoo I still love Thailand :D

  17. The same thing happened to me in Big C with a male checkout operator last month. I tendered 1000B on a 250B purchase and received change of 500.

There were two managerial types close by and they came over when they heard me querying the transaction. It was soon sorted out with apologies, the operator insisted I only gave him 500B but the check out slip had 1000 on it, however the same guy was still at a checkout the next week.

I've actually had the opposite happen at Big C, where a cashier gave me back too much money by 500. i was about to chuck the change & receipt in my wallet when I noticed I had too many 500 baht notes. I let her know and she was very greatful and apologetic. I woud imagine that if their float and end of day takings don't match up, they get nailed for it.
