  1. I still can't get over the fact the amount of young people I come across in the small shops, who have to use a calculator to sum up really REALLY simple math. I don't think of them as being dumb or stupid, but hey give it a go, give the grey matter some exercise :)

  2. With some visors costing U$35.00 plus, what do you use to clean your visor/s?

I see some new types of "magic" cloth on sale on Thai supermarket shelves for cleaning,

    are they any good?

Is warm, soapy water, still the best solution? (sic)

    cheers

    gd

I used to use RainX a lot in the EU, brilliant for visibility / riding in the wet!

I know it's not a cleaner, per se, but it did work as a cleaner & a coater.

GD, I've been using Mr. Sheen furniture polish on my visors (inside & out) for years (tinted & irridium) without so much as a problem with a soft buffing cloth. No residue after buffing at all. Acts as a water repellent as well. My favourite item to use for everything including the motorcycle is S100 Detail & Wax, brilliant stuff (aerosol) and made in Germany. The German's are good for something after all :)

  3. Hi, I would like to ask again where I can get the 55 watts HID xenon H4 bulbs in Thailand? Has anyone intall one in LOS?

    Hey CB,

I may have found someone. Check out www.th.farnell.com/xenon. This mob do show H4 55 12v Xenon's. I'm submitting the web address from memory via my phone. Let me know how you go. I'm not in Thailand until next month, so I can't chase it up myself.

    cheers

  4. The 55 watts is about 40% brighter, I like riding fast, almost ran off the corners a few times at night, that is why I intend to get the brightest. BTW, I am not sure whether you are aware that the higher the temperature, the dimmer it is , for eg., 10,000k is not as bright as 6000k, and 3000k will be the brightest. It is the color choice instead, as 3k will be yellow, 5k almost white, then blue, bla bla bla.....,

Oh I understand that mate; I just don't want to lazer beam everyone as the bike will rarely be ridden at nightime.

Also the fact, that I've seen these 10,000K before and don't mind the output level :)

  6. OT

I am happy with my PIAA type XTreme white H4 which give 110/100w equivalent light for 60/55w input. My bike is old so does have a large generator.

I paid 2500 baht many years ago from Riders Club but they should be available at Off road shops and probably cheaper.

Actually I'm a fan of PIAA goodies myself. Their LED 6000K bulbs are pretty neat, but the 'wedge' bulbs would be a bit of a retrofit nightmare to fit up.

  7. Hi Garry, that is 35w, do they have a 55w kit? I think 55w kit is for car, but can also be used on bikes.

I honestly feel that you won't need much more wattage, as the lights are so efficient...check out their range, piccys below. I'll be getting them for a Ducati 999S, and I'm not concerned as they will be bright enough for me as I intend getting the 10000K

  8. Just called Dr. Bike in Bkk, he said he would get it in a week, but I am not sure whether it is a digital one, as he does not seem to understand "digital ballast". Can you pm me the website of the HID you intend to buy, thanks. What what color temp you intend to get?

No problem but the links are there underlined on top of the photos.

:) Here is the website in clear: http://www.motorcyclelightbulbs.net/

  9. Have any idea whether this is sold in Thailand? I mean the digital HID kit.

No to be honest, I'll be purchasing from the US, if they cannot be sourced here (TH). Not sure if any of the big bike shops sell them in Thailand. Let me know if you find out, could save me some shipping time. :)

  10. So with the digital ballast, low beam to high is instantaneous? I saw a few clips on youtube, it is like immediate, no slack in reaction time, are those digital?

That's correct; also for bikes, there are companies making smaller compact ballasts so as not to take up room. The older style ballasts had piss poor fire up time, they were also a lot cheaper, go figure.

    Slim ballast comparison

    slimcompare.jpg

Prices are coming down greatly eg:

    $109.99 Ducati 999 standard

    4300K.jpg

    For $40 more.....

    $149.99 Ducati 999 Ultra thin

  11. I just wanted to answer the person who asked me if I drive in norway with out a license. No, I don't drive in norway with out license. The difference between thailand and norway, is that we have license for big bikes, thailand have just one license, and thats for scooters. If you have the scooter license you are allowed to drive everything on two wheels in thailand. I'm doing nothing more illigal than the rest of tourists that driving arround on scooters without license, it just sounds a little bit worse on paiper. Going to get thai license next trip,(need bether visa then visa on arrival).

Hey, that person would be me. I don't seem to remember you stating that you had a scooter license in Thailand. So what license are you using legally to ride a scooter in Thailand? :)

    QUOTE (norwaygeir @ 2010-03-12 17:14:01)

I was stopped last week by the highway police, because I was laying in right line and not left (there where almost no cars on the road and i was passing some at the moment). Was asked to show my driver license. Only got license for norway, and thats only for car. He started yelling, jo need international license, you got ticket. Ended up paying him 300 baht, and no more problem. I was not driving scooter, but 750 cc honda magna.

  12. bi-xenon has one major disadvantage. when switching from low beam to high beam, it takes seconds before high beam ignites/lights up. most cars with bi-xenon also have halogen high beams to cover this gap of darkness.

55 watt xenon low beam are available with halogen high beam, all in one unit.

heat from 55 watt xenon is identical to heat from 55/60 watt halogen in projector. Ballast also provides some heat. ballast is usually splash proof, but not waterproof

I dont like it too blue and sure not yellow, so I prefere approx 4500-4800 Kalvin

looking forward to see Ninja xenon. HD, let us know how it works

All lot of the newer kits have digital ballasts which alleviates the dwell time concern on high & low beam

still takes some time to ignite the xenon gaz in the bulb. Not one single new vehicle is yet approved without additional halogen high beam, since laws require imidiate respons to flashing high beams

That's an interesting point, I'l follow-up on the particaular brand I saw that showed virtulally instant changeover...curious... :)

  14. Just a point on the IDP being used as a translation document,i have one and there is no Thai text in it at all.

I have been stopped before and asked for my licence which i duly supplied (uk licence),he then thinking he was smart asked for my "international" same as the previous poster,to which i pulled out of the glove box...this really pissed him off.And he just walked away and put his hand up.

As I Drove past him i pulled my Thai licence out of my wallet and he started laughing."have many" was his response.

I felt like saying ....yes because of thieving bastards like you i have to cover my arse.

Yeah, I've never seen the IDP change much in years and still has five core translation languages plus the issuing country language. Since I get mine regularly in the Middle East, the first page is in standard Arabic. I'm wondering if you were to obtain one through the automobile club in Thailand (is there one?), then I would imagine that Thai script maybe on the first white page. :D I know its kind of pointless having the info in Thai as it is meant for local (Thailand) acquirers of the IDP going abroad. It's too bad you couldn't nominate specific country translation pages where you most frequent and the automobile club could print the IDP accordingly, but that would make sense. :)

edit: Tahiland has an automobile club. website info: Royal Automobile Association of Thailand

So do you ride in Norway without a bike license? Your lucky the copper didn't realise you didn't have a motorcycle license, as the fine may have gone into grey coloured baht notes territory. :)

  16. I can give you a list of Thai bike shops that obviously don't know what they're doing when importing HD's from the US. Most are 20 yrs. in the business. Could be a real business op for you.

I am not suggesting for one second that any shop that imports and sells bikes go any route but by the book and if I had a bike importing business I am sure I would go the same route as most of them. However, if you can provide a healthy size list of bike shops that both import bikes (from the US not salvage bikes from Japan) and have been in business over 20 years I would love to see it, please do post.

The original poster was looking at brining a personal bike over to ride while in Thailand and that is what I was addressing. Yes he could spend $25000 on a bike that is worth $10000 in the US and that is easy enough. All I was suggesting is that there are perfectly legal ways to bring a personal bike over here if you are willing to do a little bit of research and spend a bit of time & effort.

If you've been in Thailand for over a mo. and hangin around the harley boys you'd know.

Sorry, I been here for 4 years now and run a motorcycle business where the most common bikes I deal with are based on Harley and after-market 80 to 124inch Evo's but I am out of the loop and don't hang around the "harley boys" so better if you can just post that list you offered to provide.

Ditto, I wouldn't mind seeing that list as well. [subscribed to thread]

  17. "Greed...is on the rise" :)

I remember one time in Chiang Mai, I was sitting at a bar and this western guy (who I don't know from my next beer) sidles over all chummy like. Talks the normal bar BS to me for half an hour or so then he hits me up with an investment scheme. I started laughing my head off and politley told him to try it on someone else, I'm not interested. Then the prick takes offense because I wouldn't hear him out. I ended up finishing my beer and walking out. What part of 'no I'm not interested' didn't this guy understand.

  18. Hi Axelg, what you need is a Veypor unit on your new ride.

    post-63954-1266328736.jpg

They are only a third of the price of a Digitek.

Or you could spend a little more and get the VR2.

Don't know if there is a Bangkok agent.....but you could internet order for mail elivery from Canada.

You could try Kuhn Boyd at Chicane Motorcycles Bangkok. I understand that he is running aftermaket gear on his race Ducati.

    Just an idea.

I cannot find any information about 'Kuhn Boyd at Chicane Motorcycles Bangkok' .... any indication?

I made a mistake, its Kuhn Boy..no y in his name.

I asked some buddies to give me some info, below are directions and a phone number:

Lad Phrao 64/4 turn left into the Soi going towards Central Lad Phrao then

right at 7-11 about 50m on the right at 7-11 about 100m on right.

    GSM:+66892044191

  19. I know you want phonetics, but even copying this my help. Not perfect Thai but it should get the point across.
