  1. Sad story. The forestry department caved in and so the area the poles will take will be ruined instead of being forest. Now all these villagers need to do is come up with 500 baht per household for millions in infrastructure and yet they are still demonstrating? It's going to cost them a whole lot more than 500 baht to get a meter installed. And then how are they going to pay for the monthly bills? More demonstrations coming? Sad to see the real loser here is the forest as usual.

  2. Creating the conditions for a deadly shootout is a poor solution. Instead what you need to do is setup security cameras that have sim cards and send pictures anytime someone shows up there. It sounds as if the thieves are comfortable and spend a lot of time getting stuff which is great. This system will allow the police to arrive in time to bust them before anything gets stolen and throw the book at them.

  3. My experience in Thailand with mdf, plywood, and rubber wood panels is all 3 are attractive to bugs, mold, and are dimensionally unstable. In the humid, foggy mountain climate I am in they all get horribly bad thick mold in the wet season even completely sheltered from rain and water contact. You can resolve these 3 problems in different ways or if you want something more forgiving and hassle free then use cement board or viva board. And teak is nearly as good in all respects.

All types of panels are always installed with a suitable gap between each panel, even cement board types. Follow instructions found on the internet. Cement board gaps are filled with flexible sealant. For gaps between wood panels the spline method pictured in post #14 is a good way and be sure the strips are loose fitting so the panels can expand completely together if necessary.

  4. Apparently some here may not realize that Richard Stanton, one of two British divers that found the kids said this to Elon early on regarding the sub: "It is absolutely worth continuing with the development of this system in as timely a manner as feasible. If the rain holds out it may well be used". So for all you armchair experts that say this couldn't work from the beginning, you are disagreeing with a cave expert who made the dive and helped come up with the idea and pass on all the crucial specifications to Elon. Stanton, one of the critical cave divers, his words carry more credibility than someone who stepped up to a mic on CNN to millions of people and unleashed a disturbing, insulting, foul language publicity stunt rant. And it was all directed at someone who simply tried his best to help the kids because he was asked to by the cave experts. It was the experts idea, they believed in it, and had things unfolded a bit differently might have proven to be a life saver like Stanton envisioned. Hats off to Elon and all the heroes that stepped up to help.

  5. Let me get this straight. We are told to all be vigilant and meanwhile sympathetic to these poor, impoverished people. This lack of punishment and spinning it that they are actually good people only encourages more theft. Shouldn't there be a deterrent? Why should the good people be burdened with all these precautions and the bad people get no shame or punishment? Quite a backwards approach.

  6. Get a cheap used smart phone. There are free apps that will send photos to your phone anytime motion is detected.

This allows catching someone in the act which is way better than trying to deal with a theft at a later date when they and your stuff are long gone.

but you'd be ok with that. Double standards my friend

I have no double standard so do not try to put false words in my mouth. Let me do the talking. If you scroll up a tiny bit you will see a response to your post where I wrote "I totally agree the way elon bashed unsworth was disgraceful." Pretty sure that's a fair call. I am curious if you have a double standard. Would you characterize vern's words as disgraceful?

Link is to Tesla website. Hardly independent.

Here is an independent link just for you. You just added more positive publicity for elon, good work.

The inflatable would have become rigid when filled with air, way too large and rigid to navigate some of the spaces it would have been required to.

Why don't you take your expert conclusion you drew from a photo and contact wings to tell them they were completely wrong on every single design point because you are mister know it all and have it all figured out better than the leading experts in the world.  I am guessing the response you will get would be: ROFL. Go ahead man, do it.

  9. Great link, confirms the orange sub was designed to be guided through the cave system’s trickiest sections. What a company this wings inflatables is to go from phone call to finished and tested product in hours because they cared about the kids more than their bottom line. And sorry I thought you were making up that bit about velcro--it is! Apologies.

Sounds like you are interested in logos on these subs. On the rigid sub there is a Thai flag and the name of the vessel (wild boar) named after the kids soccer team. The red logo at left appears to be their mascot. Nice touch the kids could bond with that. I haven't spotted a single logo having to do with tesla/elon/etc which is just a further blow to those who want to believe it was some sort of publicity stunt. In fact elon is not even in this important photo at all. It's ironic the people who tried to label it as a publicity stunt are the very people fueling so much information pouring out about these craft that otherwise might have been just a forgotten footnote no one knew about. So we can say thank you to vern and others for this interesting information coming to light.

Yeah, commissioned by Musk. Seals with Velcro apparently. Glad to see they managed to get a company logo on it. I believe it was dismissed as unsuitable, as was the capsule for that particular use.

First, that is not an elon company logo. Second, you know nothing about it but there you go bashing it saying it uses velcro trying to make it look bad instead of trying to understand its capabilities. When you take this approach, all people are going to see is a bitter, biased man.

The conditions in the cave were deteriorating. The method and day they decided to evacuate we can trust were the right decisions made by great minds. This however did not prove the sub was "unsuitable" as you put it. If things unfolded a little differently the sub might well have been used and the experts said as much. So please do not try to tell us you know more than the experts. You don't.

I totally agree the way elon bashed unsworth was disgraceful. But surely even you can see vern was a complete disgrace the way he provoked this. What would compel a man at a happy time of rejoice and relief in this episode to step up to a mic in front of millions on CNN and make such disparaging remarks? I've never seen anything like it before. This interview made vern look like a complete moron. Then the followup interview he threw even a few more slaps.

As for the rescuer coordinator remark, it could have been an english as a second language issue. It seems the coordinator may not have been aware the cave experts thought of the sub idea and believed it might well be used in the rescue depending on circumstances. Elon simply provided some disclosure about these facts. These were no insults.

The Brit, being polite, basically said "up to you".

This is complete nonsense that you made up. Richard Stanton, one of two British divers that found the kids said this to musk:

"It is absolutely worth continuing with the development of this system in as timely a manner as feasible. If the rain holds out it may well be used"

    So get your facts straight.

Unsworth did not bring this on himself when he dismissed the use of the minisubmarine as a publicity stunt. What other way to describe such a contraption that was inappropriate for the task at hand?

The idea of the sub came from the cave experts in Thailand. The precise design specifications were provided to elon directly from experts who had made the crucial dive. The experts asked for the sub, elon delivered. There is no publicity stunt here.

  13. I hope elon does not sue vern for his insults. But I do hope elon proves vern lied during his childish outburst like he says he will do. That would be justice enough. So after the sub goes 50 meters stick a mic in vern where it hurts and ask him what he thinks now. By the way I did not insult vern there, that's just normal use of the english language. Or so I have heard in this thread.

may well be used!! IF it could have been ready in time!...No one said the idea was flawed from the start! Youre making all this up

Wow, I am genuinely surprised at your optimism on the sub approach. There are many people here who have expressed the sub was a bad idea and could never work. I made a mistake in assuming you were one of them. Even just a few posts earlier Artisi claimed "his sub-marine that was a flawed design from the start" so clearly i am NOT making this up.
