  1. I once went to a Thai wedding. It started approx. 5am as did the drinking of a fully uniformed bib. I went home for three hours in the afternoon returning for the evening party. The bib in question remained at the wedding; it was talked about. At about 11pm, in a hall full of people, the bib pulled out his gun and went on a fall about. Frightening.

  2. Hello to ALL.

A week or two ago someone posted on this Travel forum that a Thai Driving License could be exchanged for an Australian License automatically while in Australia. My wife is requiring a French Driving License but in France they will not recognise the Thai one and insists that she takes a driving test. There is a language problem here what with my wife not speaking French and me being from the UK with just passable French and unable to teach her. She has a French residency card as that is where our European home is. Is it possible while on vacation in Australia to obtain an Australian driving license using her Thai one, remembering that she will not have a permanent residential address within the country?? If so where is the best city/town to head for?? And is it just a matter of filling out a form?? The French authorities will accept an Australian license for an exchange, or/and we could even try the UK using my mothers address. Thank you for any advice. Mick :)

  3. I travel frequently and especially to France. I am on account with AIS [pay monthly] who supply me with International Roaming. Can travel anywhere and at anytime without purchasing any other item or informing anyone. Telephone works perfectly everywhere and anyone in Thailand that wants to contact me only has to dial the same number as they would if I was in Thailand. A point to remember is to research the French telephone providers as there is a HUGE difference in their charges for overseas calls. Before you travel AIS can provide you with a list of these companies and the charges they apply. If you plan to make alot of calls to Thailand maybe cheaper to buy a French 'starter kit' and top up as needed but note your friends will not then be able to telephone you on your Thai No.. You will then have a French No.. I personally use a VOIP company that I have subscribed to for computer calls who offer the facility to register a landline or mobile No. into their website which facilitates ZERO CHARGE calls from that registered phone to any other phone almost anywhere in the World. 4. Hello to All. It has been quite some time since I last posted but here goes. I am an experienced traveller but even so do not know what to do for the best. Having lived in Thailand in excess of 13 years my Thai wife and I have decided to spend some time back in Europe [we do own a small house in France]. We fly out in October on a one-way fare [purchased already] and expecting to return March/April and again flying back out within 6 months etc.. My thinking was that it would be cheaper to purchase a return from Europe than Thailand. However I have found one-way tickets [3 different airlines] to return to Thailand, in March/April, for less than 240 pounds. Question! Do I purchase these tickets now or wait awhile expecting a better deal on purchasing a 6 month return when the dates from the airlines become bookable? I am aware about the length of a piece of string, but what do you think??

  5. GOOD DAY,

PLEASE HELP IN THIS HEATED DISCUSSION. I HAVE BEEN IN RECEIPT OF A NON-IMMIGRANT O FOR MANY A YEAR AND HAVE NEVER RETURNED TO THE UK ALTHOUGH BRITISH. I AM RECEIVING AN OCCUPATIONAL PENSION AND VERY SOON WILL HAVE MY GOVERNMENT RETIREMENT PENSION. THE DUAL TAXATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE UK AND THAILAND IS UNDERSTOOD BUT!!!!!! I AM RETIRED, NEVER WORKED WITHIN THAILAND, NEVER CONTACTED THE THAI TAX AUTHORITIES AND HOLD AN 'O' VISA NOT RESIDENCY. WHAT IS THE SITUATION WITH REGARDS "RESIDENT" IN THE EYES OF THE UK TAX LAWS AND THEIR THAILAND AGREEMENT?? WILL THE TAX AUTHORITIES HERE IN THAILAND SIGN ANYTHING TO APPEASE THE UK IN ORDER FOR THE UK TO OK ZERO RATED TAX AT SOURCE?? IF NOT, WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR ME TO BE RECOGNISED BY THE THAI TAX AUTHORITIES?? THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE. JOHNNORT
