  1. DAMOEN SADUAK is the only floating market to go to in my opinion. Its a few kilometers out of Bangkok but go to the Southern Bus Station [sai Tai Mai] and you will find many buses per hour go there. Best to catch a bus between 06.00 and 07.00hrs to get to the market before the tour coaches [if there are any these days - tourists that is]. Be sure to catch the smaller of the boats when you arrive, as the larger do not go into the smaller klongs.

  2. Ayalgueru, take note. You stated that you travel often. If your wife were to take up employment within the UK, or not, and you departed the country, alone, on one of your tours, then she would be in the UK unlawfully, I believe. The non EEA spouse of an EEA National Visa states that the spouse has to travel with the EEA National or the EEA National must be in the UK for the spouse to enter the country. Therefore she cannot be left alone in the UK. I believe this to be true, but but please confirm with government office.

  3. Yes indeed, you do require a 5yr license. The other docs needed:-

    Passport.

Letter of residency from Immigration OR yellow Tabien Ban OR work permit.

Two passport size, not Thai driving license size, photos. N.B. Have these taken at the offices as those from photo shops may not be accepted. They are usually too glossy and the ink stamp will not take on them.

  4. The ministry's Educational Management Education Office will separately receive Bt2.96 billion for instilling children with Thai pride.

Students will gain a sense of identity through the promotion of ethics, sufficiency economy, Thai language, the history of Thailand, Thai music, Thai arts, Thai sports, Thai culture and the constitutional monarchy.

Indoctrination by any other name. The bane of Thailand right now.

Computers???? Give them books and writing paper and pencils and teachers and school meals and and and. Forget the dam computers.

  5. The golf pro who used to drink in the camel, Ban Chang ,has long gone. There seemingly is a very good teacher at the driving range next to Bangkok Rayong Hospital, Rayong.

From Suk. Rd. turn into PMY Rd. towards the beach. At first junction with flashing traffic lights turn right. Driving range about 200m on left.

  6. People dissing the airport rail link. I would be one if I had entered this post sooner. It has pretty much all been said. However, I believe that those of us that have lived in Thailand a long while, are angry and disappointed at yet another fiasco. The initial thinking of policy makers is superb. But when those thoughts are then put to fruition it all goes wrong - every time. I could go on about why, I am a long term resident, such as corruption etc. but I won`t. Suffice to say, the Thai people deserve more.

  7. To DING. You say 'Taxi drivers complaining Farangs that don`t tip'. Tipping is a Western World phenomena. Tipping theoretically should not happen here. We do it because we bring what we are used to over with us. Many years ago when I was at a restaurant with my, as then, future wife, I tipped a waiter. My lady then reiterated the conversation she heard taking place between the waiting staff. In essence; 'Why did he give me extra money for doing the job that I am being paid to do?'

  8. Now I know why all those government officials were travelling recently. Pay almost nothing for their flight but are then able to vote. When I have had to fly Thai the cabin staff, all bar approx. one each trip, were cr_ap [ready smiles - what rubbish!] and the cabin itself, with its lack of facilities, equally so. An asian poll, eh! Well we all know they speak the truth. N.B. It upsets me for writing the last sentence but unfortunately its true.

  9. Although it has all been said, my stomache is turning from reading this story and I just have to voice off. The gang leaders got away!! There was never any intention of catching these people - they were Thai. It is the nasty undesirable foreigners that are degrading Thailand don`t you know?? Over and over again the reports of illegal activities [like murder for instance. When it is not suicide of course.] state 'Foreigners were involved and Thais were defenately not'. Disgraceful. In this particular case, by all means return these people to their own country, without prosecution, but catch and imprison the slave masters. Not a difficult task. They are known.

  10. Fred2007. Where are you from?? Take the cheese away and you have an English breakfast. Continental??? Apart from, maybe a boiled egg, there is no cooked food on the plate. Breakfast is a very serious issue for me. The best meal of the day. The fuller the plate [fried everything] the better, but please no 'hotel' eggs. Don`t eat a thing again untill at least 19.30hrs :) . Oh! and yes, no spam, the Brits will know what I mean; bacon or ham please.
