1. Ladies and Gentlemen, My wife and I have bought and sold four houses in Thailand but I understand our next project, the purchase of a condo, follows different rules. I am aware of the positive implications of being able to register the sale in the name of a foreigner if there are Thai/Foreigner trust issues, but here is what I am not sure of. Are there any additional costs and hassles involved in purchasing a foreigner owned and registered condo and putting it into a Thai name? It is not as stupid as it sounds as I do have valid reasons. And conversely, if the condo is owned and registered in a Thai name, at the point of resale, are additional costs and hassles involved if a foreigner then wishes to purchase the condo and register it in his/her name? Would this complicate the issue? Thank you in advance for your comments.

  2. I noted everyone's comments. All settings were/are correct; Uninstalled and reinstalled; ran anti virus checks and still I have the same problem. Have given up and am temporarily using Windows Live Mail until I find another program that I am satisfied with. Thanks guys!

  3. Hello BlackPuddingBertha,

Thunderbird opens and I can access all mail that has been Sync´d with Gmail, offline. However the program has stopped sync´íng my mail. That is, all new mail received into my Gmail account is not being copied into Thunderbird. As mail is building up in Gmail, Thunderbird´s mail has stopped since the 21st.

  4. Hello Technophiles,

I have just noticed that my Mozilla Thunderbird program, since two days ago, has stopped accessing and downloading the mail from my Gmail account. I use Gmail for all sending and receiving of mail but have Thunderbird to be able to access mail offline. It stopped working in the last version and continues in the same vein after updating to the new version. What could be wrong? I am running an ASUS laptop F55A with Windows 7 and Gmail continues to operate perfectly. If this gremlin cannot be ousted is there a similar program out there that will enable me to access mail (once downloaded) offline. Any guidance will be appreciated.

  5. Hello,

A while back I removed a 3.5 IDE HD from an old PC running Windows XP I had been using. Putting this in a mains powered ´box´ and connecting to my Asus F55A laptop, running Windows 7, via a USB port has resulted in the pad mouse pointer going haywire. It moves around the screen without prompting. Disconnecting the external HD corrects the mouse pointer. I have checked the drivers for the pointing device and have erased the HD drive using C Cleaner after firstly extracting the required files. The problem still exists. Is it because of the two different OS´s, maybe? And is there anyone with any ideas on how to rectify the issue? It takes 5 minutes to position the mouse on an icon to click, and then it may jump off just as the pad is being pressed. Thanks.

  6. Any idea please. I am having an intermitting problem. I shut down laptop using Windows; start; etc. On booting up the next day I often find that on pressing the start button I get a blank black screen and a continuous double beep. Two beeps, a pause, then two beeps in a continual sequence. Some have said it may be the memory but the problem temporarily rights itself. I do sometimes remove the battery in these instances but wonder when the computer rights itself if the battery removal is just a coinsidence as that does not always solve the problem. Others have said it may be a dry joint on the motherboard, whatever that may mean. The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 'N' Series and is only used using the mains electric. Thanks for any info.

  7. Thank you Darrel and Pattayadingo for the seriousness in which you took the query. Some people on this site!?!?!? Members must surely write any rubbish just to build up their 'post' score. How pathetic! A long time ago, I, together with many others, reduced our participation in the forums on the back of these ridiculous people. We will look into the points you guys made in the hope of resolving the boot-up annoyance.

  8. Hello,

A friend of mine has a computer related problem. Any ideas please as to why his Toshiba (?) laptop turns itself on at will. Maybe hours after turning the laptop off, and usually in the dead of night, it often decides to turn itself on. Thanks in advance.

  9. Thanks BB1950.

I thank you Tywais; you certainly are a Star Member. I can now let my hair grow back.

I have tried to read that article, BB1950, however cannot find the web page. But I thank you non-the-less.

Sorry. Something happened when posting. Probably due to the space in the link. I didn't test it before posting.

    Here it is again:

Installing a previous version of Firefox

I tested this link this time and it works!

  10. Good Day Guys,

I had Windows '7 Ultimate' installed recently and am going insane with the Desktop. In XP a left click (and hold down) on a desktop icon would enable me to move that icon anywhere on the desktop. Windows 7 ugh!!!! Program etc. icons are placed on the left hand side, no problem; however, the positioning of icons seem to be preset. They start in top left hand corner and run down in a column. When that column is full the next icon will start the next column, at the top, alongside the first. No problem there! The problem arises when icon positions are needed to be changed. Yes! you can move an icon within the columns but if you are requiring to, say, make a grouping of four, most of the others will change positions also; some jumping from the middle to the top for instance making a complete hash of your order. Icons can also NOT be taken out of a column and placed elsewhere on the desktop. I am not sure if all Ultimate 7 users have this problem but I surely do. Any advice as to how I can change this would be appreciated.

I also downloaded the update to Firefox (now 5) with the result that the scroll arrow in the bottom right hand corner is now sharing that space with the small triangular icon that alters the size of the viewed page. Scrolling down can be achieved in the normal manner, by clicking on top right hand arrow but to scroll up I have to click on the right hand bar etc.. To click on the bottom arrow only results in the page reducer taking over with the scroll arrow obsolete. Any ideas without telling me to reinstate Firefox 4 ??? I mourn the loss of Google toolbar!!! Mick

  11. Any info please! My Thai wife, as do I but that's no problem, has a full Thai Driving Licence. We are to live in France for a while and it is necessary for her to have a European licence. The International Licence obtained from Bangkok is only valid for 6 months in France as she has a Carte de Sejour (12 months otherwise). Normally she has 12 months to exchange a foreign licence to a French licence; however, Thailand has not signed the universal treaty governing this and so Thai licences are exempt. Some people here will now state, "rightfully so" but the quality of driving has nothing to do with this treaty or exchange.

Laos has signed this treaty however, so my question is: Has anyone any knowledge or experience in obtaining a Laos driving licence even if it is exchanging the Thai licence. A quick solution is required with cash available. Are there 'helpers' waiting outside the government offices? And what office building do we visit in Vientiane. Once this is obtained she can then exchange it to a French licence.

Taking a test in France is a non-starter as it is very complicated and neither my wife nor I have any knowledge of the French language.

    Thank you!

  13. Hello,

I have no experience of this so assistance please. Trying the Travel Forum as it is flight orientated. I am requiring to ship out to my house in France some personal effects from my Thai home; clothes, a flat TV (for sat. viewing), files of paperwork, some tools and the like, but no large, heavy furniture. I guess there will be about three medium boxes. What company could be recommended? Do Airlines offer a good freight service? Where would I be able to access heavy duty boxes? What weight restrictions would there be? Air or Sea? Costs (no expensive express delivery necessary)? I would be able to collect from an airport or depot. My location is Rayong, on the Eastern Seaboard, so an office here, or in Pattaya would be an advantage if not going with an Airline direct. In my absence friends will be organizing the Thai side of things so I would like to be clued up the best I can to advise. Thank you.

  15. Jayinoz, you laugh quite a lot! Good for you! I also have lived in this country for over 13 years and assumed I knew most things. I even have read, with a copy left in my vehicle, the 'Land Traffic Act of Thailand' to assist in understanding and abiding to, Thai law; a model citizen if you will. My story has nothing to do with the Courts actions, nor decision. The reason for being prosecuted is only a side issue and can be left out. The real reason of concern is the undeniable collusion between the police and my lawyer to doctor already written reports to "clear the police books quickly", together with a deliberate lack of information given to me by my own brief. All reports, are in existence! What is interesting is at what stage the doctoring is carried out and the fine orchestration that took place to keep me out of the picture. A foreigner beware issue. My future report will be totally factual and traceable.

  16. Thank you erayburn. Be proud of yourself for a very useful first post!!!
Do not worry soundman, my future tell all post will not cover the Courts decision but details leading up to the day in Court. Is the printing of advice given by lawyers and police OK??? It definitely is a foreigners stay away story
Mick
17. I have just been a party of a miscarriage of justice through the Thai Courts. The same old business of, sign this, there is no problem. No, I do not do that as a matter of course, I hired a lawyer. He completely misled me. Hence, I am looking for the address, telephone numbers and e-mail address of the Law Society of Thailand. This may now be called The Lawyers Council of Thailand. All links to these are not available on my laptop for some reason.

I assure you I will inform readers as to the details, as I will to the World; it is a great tourist stay away story, but you will have to wait a while longer. It only happened today.

Please leave in this Forum as I don't know where else to post this entry. Thank you.
