1. Thank you Lite Beer and Lopburi3 for your concise answering. I am aware that it is who you come into contact with on any given day irrespective of rules. TIT. I did just wonder though whether new rules had come into force on this one!

All Tv users should read your responses, not necessarily for the content, although useful for me, but for how they are written. I, and I am sure I'm not alone, think twice before posting because of the scathing responses that are sometimes written by Tv members.

  2. Hi All!!!!!

Thought I knew it all! Years of experience, continual research and keeping up with new laws and requirements have kept me in good stead; until today! Never had a problem before; even last year I renewed my extension of stay a full three months before the expiry date of the current.

Anyway, I have used Mapthaput Immigration Office for the last six years with its continual change of personnel. I am married to a Thai lady but have a non-immigrant O and have been extending the stay each year under the retirement classification.

It had clearly been stated that The Immigration Dept would renew such extension upto three months before the current expires. As stated above, they honored this clause only last year. I depart Thailand for Europe on 9th August and today armed with all relevant papers descended on Mapthaput. They refused to give me an extension as my current extension did not expire until 18th September. I was told they were not allowed to do this if the existing extension had longer than one month to run. I implored that the rules stated three months only to be told it was a new regulation. Is this the case? A friend also informed me that on renewing his married (visa) extension, and although it does not apply to me, the same office would not allow the combination of income (Embassy Letter) and deposited money (Single Named Account) and needed to see one or the other. Another new regulation he was told.

As time is running out, and I have forgotten where to find the official wordings, can anyone help with my predicament please. A link as to where a could copy the original clauses from the Immigration Department stating that I am correct or the new immigration requirements would of course be ideal. Thank you all sincerely. Mick

  3.

You won't find Penang to be another Pattaya if that's what your expecting. I suspect that's why some people on this forum are so down on Penang. Five days is a bit long, but if you want to do some travels outside of Penang and within a day trip you can find enough things to do. If you are not afraid of snakes, take a trip to the snake temple. And I mean litterly go there only if you are NOT AFRAID of snakes, because there are snakes running around free everywhere. Or go up Penang hill, enjoy a meal up there and take your camera for the scenic view. At 800 meters up it's probably the coolest place in all of Penang. I understand the train is down for maint/restoral, which is too bad, because that is a good trip...but you can take a ride up the hill in a jeep. If you want to spend some time in Little India shopping...it's well worth the time. Haggle for everything. Google Penang tourisim on the net...and you will find a lot of suggestions and places to go...Chinese Buddhist temples with their gongs and chanting, Indian temples, or the Penang Museum, it depends on what you want to do. Just remember that Penang is not Pattaya...so don't expect that kind of thing.
And whatever you do, don't miss the Chilli Crab in the food stalls at night.
Relax on a beach with cold beer and bowls of spicy noodles too. You might have to look a litle, but Penang has it's own charm...you just have to find it.

Well!! That should take up three and half hours of your time!!
4. I too was a viewer of the BBC Entertainment Channel. More importantly for me though is the rugby............All gone. UK Clubs, Southern Hemisphere Super 12s, Tri-nations, Six Nations, International Touring; all shown previously and now all taken off the air. People, please do not insult me saying they show Asian Rugby and Sevens at times. The UFC PPV is also shown throughout Asia with the exception of Thailand. True could rectify that if they wanted too!

Most English has disappeared from the Monthly Mag which is more than a shame and a shame also is that True (I still call it UBC) has a monopoly. I speak a few languages having lived in various places around the World but Thai unfortunately is not a language I can get to grips with.

Ah well!! I shall just continue being an invisible, know nothing, not wanted Farang.

  5. No pasting; just the normal typing. This and other problems with Tv have only occurred since Thaivisa changed whatever it was they changed recently. The downloading and turning of pages was another problem and now I have noticed the number of posts have not been increasing as I have been posting. The number has just remained static at 78 for a while now. Just jumped to 79 I see,and although it does not matter for me, the system has missed many and so indicates that there is a problem with the site.

  6. Hello Wiz Kids,
I have been running successfully for some time the free version of "client for Google translate" from "translateclient.com.. Translating small paragraphs and words mainly from French to English. I was just in the middle of writing a three paragraph letter and I had a timeout note. From this moment on whenever I type a word into the translate box or press the G for instant translation of a sentence I get:- ERROR - GOOGLE BLOCK YOUR REQUEST.
I have reinstalled the program but it still acts up like above. Ant ideas please?? Mick
7. Thanks everyone i think my dad has made a mistake i've just been talking to my TGF and she said he will not get charged for incoming calls on a thai sim card i think he has used his credit without realising, this is his first time in thailand and first time flying i think he is a bit disorientated :D

If your TGF has all the answers, and seemingly you are listening to her; why are you posting this question??????

  8. Hello Friends. Could anyone tell me if there was a known fault with obtaining the Thai Visa website recently. I believe it is back to normal now, but for the last three days, a different page other than the general new news page would download; yesterday, the front page loaded OK but when a topic was clicked on, the next page was not the topic page. Any ideas? Thanks.

  9. '...Due to copyright restrictions, many streaming TV programmes are not accessible once they have identified your IP address as being overseas. The only way around this is to go through a proxy of the country that is broadcasting the programme you are trying to access. This might not be the reason in your case as I don't recognise the alert you are getting as we don't have such gobbledegook on Macs, but this is often the problem'.

How does one go about obtaining a "proxy" for a particular country. EG. To view UK tv. Thanks

  10. Are you using seprate headset/mic if so use a programme like skype or msn to prove if they are working OK. Similair if using built mic.

The other thing you can do is reboot your router (obvious I know but maybe you haven't)

Try setting up a call to a number in different country or your mobile as it may be a cross connection problem to the country you are ringing.

I use voipdiscount and occassionaly get the porblem you have experienced. I am ringing from the UK to Thailand. But this problem is the odd call and redialling usually fixes problem.

Thank you Louialive. You will never know how much of a help you were. After scouring the computer in order to do, and doing, all sorts of things, deleting then re-downloading the program and calling TOT, I read your response. Your very first sentence had the answer; I remember now; I had unplugged the microphone. Thanks

  11. Hello friends,

I have been using Voip Discount for some years, trouble free, to speak to family in the UK. Dialing from my laptop (XP) to UK landlines. However, for the last few days, I have been able to hear conversation from the other end but they have been unable to hear me. Anyone know of what the problem could be please? My account is in credit and this is the first time a problem has occurred. Mick

  12. I have lived in Rayong for some time and although it is a city it is not worth the visit. Yes, there are nice beaches, but nothing else that should draw you to the town. However Ban Phe is worth a visit. See MB1's post above.

Rayong has recently had a new bus station open. Your bus will stop here first; Do not get off as it is in the middle of nowhere. Carry on to the city centre. Disembark here, and catch a bus to Ban Phe, which incidentally has specialist markets, and you will not be disappointed. Boats to Koh Samet for day trips or longer stays in the many accommodation types there on the island. Some hate, and some love Samet; visit and decide for yourself. Now read MB1 above.

Buses for your return leave Ban Phe direct for Bangkok. Supposing that is where you are based.

  13. Thanks for the prompt replies. I am using a laptop connected by wire to a router supplied by TOT at my home. My home is a detached house and no other computers nor wifi devices are present. Do I actually have to tell TOT about this intermittent problem, apart from switching things on and off, as a poster has advised me to do, I am not very computer literate? Is it TOT that will issue me with a different IP address? Apologies for coming over so stupid.

  14. Very occasionally a message appears on screen stating; 'There is an IP address conflict with someone else'. Would anybody care to enlighten me as to what exactly that means and what I should do about it please. Thank you

  15. Help please. I have had Real Player on my laptop for many years with no problems. Five days ago however, when trying to view an e-mail attachment I had the following message;

    RealPlay.exe Unable to locate component.

This application has failed to start because MSVCR71.dll was not found.Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

I downloaded Real Player SP which solved the problem for 24 hours. Wherever I look for Real on the computer, in programs for example, I get the same message above.

I have downloaded Real now many times with the same 24 hour result. On downloading however it does not recognise that the computer is on line.

I am running an HP Presario and registered copy of XP.

    Any thoughts. Mick
