  1. I am reliably informed by someone who supplies weapons systems to the Thai airforce, that the pilots have this stuff in their planes and believe without question that they guarantee safety and victory. He told me this as he gave me an expensive amulet. I guess the recent helicopter crashers must have forgotten them.

  2. Go to Friends on Sukhumvit between sois 8 and 10, opposite overpass to old Ambassador Hotel and near Bangkok Bank. Ask for Lilly. THB250-300. Been my hairdresser for years. She is excellent. The others there are just as good as she is.

However, if you want something Korean, transgender or on the bizarre side, go to the one opposite Bangkok University, BUIC entrance. I forget the name but you cannot miss it.

  3. one thing i dont understand is he came to thailand with 25million bht to invest, what about his assets in america he was 39yrs old, first marriage didnt last so how much did that one get, then there is the home here which he say's is about to be repossessed, for a person to have and make decent money in thailand what kind of mortage did they have or was that in her name only,i have plenty of sympathy for him but the saying goes "a fool and his money are soon parted" did he take his eye off the ball? no he never had them on it at the start.

Agree. Hopefully, he is not a complete idiot, although, as he is now living in a wat, he may be. He needs a very good well-connected (lunchbox money) lawyer.

  4. Some of you guys are unnecessarily cruel. The poor guy is reduced to living in wat.

None of us knows the actual circumstances. Maybe he had promised his wife some things, it happens.

Maybe he was a very good human being that was trying to do the right thing and was screwed over?

Maybe he was a cad. Who knows? There are always so many important facts and circumstances of these cases that are never stated, For the sake of decency, perhaps the indignation and condemnation can be turned down a notch?

I have always left my partner in charge of the small spending account usually between 100 and 200K. Even with my ex who did not understand the concept of budgeting and living within one's means, I never had a serious problem. However, one of the reasons we broke up was that after 4 years together, I refused to purchase property in her name. To be honest, I paid attention to the stories in TVF. I was lucky, because the dingbat had gotten into debt without me knowing and there would have been problems down the road including the probably seizure of the asset. I was lucky because I tend to be cautious, listened to my father, and I had a horse shoe up my arse. Was I lucky to have a father to talk it over with? Yes, but I could have been this guy. Not all of us have someone to smack some sense into our heads when we are smitten with "love".

    You a said it beauful

    you a didn't

"Agree with KuhnPaen above. I too once thought of the possibility of marrying a nice Thai gal, but after reading so many of these stories, I just cant see myself doing it now under any circumstances."

Do you ever stop to think how ludicrous and illogical such thinking is?

Based on a very small sample size (at most a few hundred cases) of Thai

wives scamming her clueless farang husbands, you quickly jump to the

conclusion that all the other millions of Thai ladies are untrustworthy.

Hasn't it never occurred to you that Thai ladies are no more or no less apt

to be deceitful liars than Ozzie women or Brit women or American women

or Russian women of Japanese women or any other women in the world?

This is not rocket science, just common sense.

And there are farang men (and Thai men) who have married

Thai women (and women in many countries) and given them a life of hell.

It happens everywhere, not nice but realty of life.

On the other hand in this country, all countries the majority of men and women

are decent folks who just want to be happy and make their partner and their kids happy.

    How sweet

  6. Pathumtani is usually quiet I have been living here for 20 years .... Thai teens dont fight without reason , either he did or said something wrong as apparently he was intoxicated. sometime those teen group don't need much to start a fight.

With no investigation supplied, this seems very odd. The only problem I have ever had has been with ladyboys trying to steal my phone and northern englishmen, with indecipherable accents (that's how I knew where they came from), looking for someone to fight. Crossing the road avoided that.

    Probably more to this story

  7. My Thai doctor told me if I have Dengue fever once this has an innoculation effect if I catch the disease again.

The second time is not so bad.

But I read a journal that said the second time is worse and you can be seriously ill.

    So who do I believe?

And what symptons should we be looking out for?

I am no expert but I do know that you do NOT build up an immunity, just as you do not to many other vector borne diseases. That's why so many servicemen died of it in WWII.

In my cases, symptoms were similar to malaria - fevers, delirium, headaches, temperature over the top and excruciating pain. It used to be called 'break bone fever' because of very severe pains in the joints. Other distinguishing features in my case were photophobia, as in migraines and a peculiar rash, that in WWII they called 'gloves and boots', where you have inflammation on your lower arms and lower legs. The inflammation is that type where if you press it a white spot emerges briefly, if you know what i mean.

I was misdiagnosed as having malaria or some other mosquito borne disease, such as Ross River virus ( a type of encephalitis). The weird rash should have given it away.

There was also a peculiar incubation period of 1-2 days where the symptoms briefly disappear. That is the time to move and get out (as I did the second time in Indonesia).

I had been very conscientious about mosquito repellent and anti-malarials. However, on the bright side, its a great way to lose a lot of weight very quickly

Your doctor is a clown. I and many others have had it twice. During WWII, soldiers had it multiple times. And yes, the second time is more dangerous but has one advantage - you recognise what you have got and can plan for that brief window (one or two days when the symptoms subside and then return) to get the hell out.

  9. Just give every arriving passenger a small bottle of aeroguard once they clear immigration, problem solved.

Obviously, no idea how serious this disease is. Have had it twice in indonesia - completely disabling, painful, life threatening with the added bonus of about a year's worth of fatigue and flashbacks. Aeroguard will not save you

  10. Bloody Hell!! the country really does appear to be becoming increasingly violent and unsafe despite my scepticism.

I am usually very suspicious of sweeping claims that things are worse now than before. Alleged deterioration can be due to a range of factors such as increased reporting, keeping stats, changed definitions of crime, not to mention politics and politicians. There are raves against the deteriorating morals of youth in the pyramids and throughout Roman literature - so not a new phenomenon. Not to mention that, in the West, there were more heroin addicts in the US in 1915 than today, and crime was reportedly higher during the gold rushes in US and Australia than at any other time in those countries.

However, either the Thailand is more dangerous now or .. if violence and crime have not increased in fact perhaps it has always been a violent and dangerous place.

  11. As said the main point is DONT ever use a courier like UPS DHL or Fed Ex, they will hit you hard on import duty etc every time.

Never had a problem through normal mail system, but you may find for Insurance purposes some companies wont send unless its a courier like those mentioned.

Absolutely true!! Could not agree more - the local offices of these firms are as corrupt as any thai firm. Had to pay big baht in pay offs for my own books (used) being shipped using these companies - 'no pay (bribes), no delivery,' the little turd at the door told me as he stood there with the carton.

However, I now get stuff delivered to my work office addressed to a secretary. The staff will not put up with any bullshit from these firms

  12. My guess is that the Bahraini govt. is either involved, or is complicit in all this. They are a den of thieves. Their govt. is one of the most hated in the Gulf. And the US continues to give them support. We all know by now that human rights is simply a smokescreen, and there is no desire to help the downtrodden, in either the US, or Thailand. Shame on that security guard. A public lashing, stripped naked in the town square seems like adequate punishment. The Bahraini royal family needs to be removed from power, and sent into exile in the empty quarter of Saudi Arabia. In the meantime, let us hope some heads roll in Thailand over this episode. Kudos to this rather brave woman, who stood up to the gangsters involved in this. Let us hope the woman who was running the brothel gets raped by the local hoods. That is the least she deserves.

You are being far too severe. The Bahrainis obviously have impeccable moral standards as evidenced by: " the fasting month of Ramadan .... clients stopped buying sex during the Muslim holy month."

  13. When it comes to superstitions and weird beliefs, the Chinese leave the rest of us for dead. The Devpt Bank of Singapore management (all western PhDs and MBAs) rearranged its furniture and swapped the staff and customer entrances on the advice of a feng shui master to increase profits. Unfortunately, it worked.

In addition, there are the caveats about sharp instruments as gifts, white wrapping paper, walking in straight lines and on and on. A Chinese friend of mine says it drives her crazy, but, especially if older people are around, they must do all this stuff.
