  1. May i suggest to all you people who begin your argument with "every other country in the world would...bla bla bla" just stop and think...

has this ever happened in any other country in the world recently??

AND if so,how did they actually handle it?

Would you prefer the approach of certain communist countries who would call in tanks against even one person?

I really cant think of any other country in the world that would let it get this far!

  2. Protesters at three rally grounds _ Don Muang, Suvarnabhumi and Government House _ were also advised to take off their yellow shirts and put on ones with different colours if they were to leave the areas.

    The Nation.

    Hi grandpops,

just what colours would they be then? :o

  3. I still believe it is possible to remove the protestors without too much violence (use fire trucks and hit them with water and u ll see) from the airports... It seems the Thai Police though might not be trained enough to manage such events and it could easily degenerate if this is the case but it is possible to remove them...
"We will not leave. We will use human shields against the police if they try to disperse us," PAD leader Suriyasai Katasila told Reuters news agency.

I doubt what you say is true Sunray.............

  4. Of course. There are people who:

    - need to go home and work (or face losing their jobs).

    - need to go to business meetings.

    - (children) who need to go to school.

Many people, especially with the financial crisis, have planned their holidays and especially their budget very carefully. Not everyone can afford to stay an additional few days or weeks in Thailand and pay for food, hotel, etc.

This is ruining not only Thailand's economy, but also the lives of people who came here looking to relax and enjoy their holidays from their hard earned money. They don't deserve this.

PAD needs to clear the airport NOW. Punishing innocent people is NOT the answer.

There is no government and no PPP at the airport. Only innocent people who want to go home.

Totaly agree! Also, I thought that the PAD took the airport to prevent the PM from landing there? Well, he did'nt so why are the PAD still there?

  5. Coup is the last - and worst - option. I will not support it.

After a possible coup - so what? The army has shown before they cannot run the country, and it is not supposed to be their job either. So use the army only to maintain law and order together with the police. And let the elected govt run the country.

This implies to kick out PAD from the airport and parliament house.

It's clear the PAD will not leave the airports unless Somchai is history or the army forcibly removes them. One of these solutions has a violent outcome, the other does not. Which do you think is better for tourism, a protest ending in bloodshed and resentment or a military coup.

I think it is better for tourism, if the elected government is seen to be strong enough to direct the police/army to remove the protesters from ALL of the places it occupies.

The current perception is that Thailand has "Mob Rule", this is no good for any trade be it tourism, business or anything else!

  6. PAD only addresses the deep political problems that are affecting Thailand, but still I don't hear the solutions! Can someone who supports the PAD please post a step by step plan of what the PAD wants in the end game? Please elaborate, I'm frustrated! Do you want. . .

    1) Coup D'etat, peaceful ousting by demonstrations, or early dissolution of the current government?

    2) New elections or not?

    3) A new democratic government, and if yes, under which party's majority rule, or military junta, dictatorship?

    5) Who do you envision as new PM, military dictator?

    5) etc., etc. Thank you.

    Post early for christmas!

  7. how likely is this to effect internet access in Thailand?

Currently internet traffic is sent to Thailand by hard copy via air courier, then transferred via pneumatic tubes to the Internet center, where the messages are then encoded back into electronic form. With the main airport shut down none of the hard copies will be arriving, so I expect the entire system to shut down soon. Frankly, I am surprised the forum is even up and running.

    :o:D:D Brilliant!

  8. Can this thread be limited to the closure of the airport? I'm reading the same drivel here that has been said numerous times already on many other threads. I would like to read what is happening at the airport.

    Well said Frodo.

Sky news is reporting it as closed -

But the airport arrivals/departures are still showing it as active! -

  9. For years now on other websites (particularly the backpacker oriented ones, if not this one) people have reported thefts on private buses.

Why on earth anyone seems to think it is necessary to book a "package" on Khao Saan Road of all places is beyond me.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but I have never heard of this sort of thing happening on the scheduled Govt run transport system.

So to all those who are new to this country; Thailand is still very safe and relatively crime free but you increase the risk by dealing with some of the "agents" who prey on vulnerable tourists.

Travel on scheduled Thai transport like Thais and I am sure you will have no problems.

I fully understand what you are saying, But, how does your average innocent tourist to this lovely country know which company is good and which is bad?

Maybe a star rating system? 5 Star = little chance of being robbed - 1 Star hand over your belongings upon entry to the bus?

  10. I really do hope that this is the start of a witch hunt against corrupt officials.

    But I don't think so.

Lets not hope so, imagine a Thailand where:

    1. Every bar closed on time all the time and no beer available anywhere after hours

    2. They no longer overlook what a sizeable amount of young country girls are doing here and there

    3. You will end up banned from driving after a few minor offences

This wouldn't be Thailand it would be the UK.

Why don't you just come up honest and admit , you are in Thailand partialy because you enjoy the corruption because it suits your lifestyle , which also tells me you find it hard to abide by the law . As long as people like you keep paying 'Tea money' because you save a few baht , Thailand will continue to be the overly corrupt and degenerate country that it is , so be it !!!!!!!

Just a couple of points there,

    1) the UK has 24Hr Licensing act, so you can drink all day & all night if you like!

    2) the number of "Pay Per" women is in decline as there are so many willing amatures......

    3) most minor motoring offences are now "on the spot fines" only the more serious ones attract points added to your licence.

    have fun. :o
