  1. I think the poster better provide a good source for this story as it sounds like complete BS to me. So the police and legal system went through all this without any payoff? The story lost all credibility in my mind with the cooking part of it.

Prove me wrong and provide a relevant reference from where this story originates.

  2. what do you call it, when you go to a restaurant and look at the prices in the menu card.

And at the bottom of the page is written: Prices do not include 10% service charge and VAT.

    This I would call SCAM

That's like the "going out for business" sale scam.

  3. I once had the village drunk open my gate walk the 30 yards towards my kitchen and harass the wife for some money to buy more alcohol.

The guy was shitfaced and wouldn't leave her alone and would not leave the property.

I stood and observed while my retired cop self wanted to physically escort him off the property, but being the alien didn't want to give a Thai an ass whippin..

The uncle, the Thai cop, was called and came over and gave the drunk an ear full..an oral ass whippin' and told him to disappear within seconds or he really would "disappear".

I asked him as to what I can do being a alien when confronted with these situations.

His response was that as long as this guy was on my ( the Mrs. ) property I had a right to do almost anything that would get him off the property, including deadly force.

The key word he kept refering to was : " On your property ".

So, I would say that if you caught a burglar inside your house and felt threatened..you would have the authority under the Thai law to do what ya gotta do.

I would still suggest that you left the Mrs. ( or any Thai ) to do it as it would be less grief for all parties involved.

Still unknown what the Thai law actually says, but according to the Thai Police ( uncle ) the guy has basically signed his death warrant.

I doubt he speaks for the Thai judicial system and its many characters so I would not take that advise too seriously.

  4. Assume you are driving a car but you are going too slow! And the guy behind you is moving in on you at a very high speed but the road is too small for him to overtake you. He's trying to intimidate you, flash his high beams. And then pulls over and makes you stop and goes in an very aggressive one-sided argument. Are you just going to ignore him? Is it the best thing to just let him drive home while thinking he is the victor and he has won in life. He bluffed you and you lose. He is not a failure regardless of the size of his sausage. He will have success in life.

What I usually do with tailgaters is let them get close - stay on the gas pedal and lightly touch the brake with my left foot. The brake lights go on and it usually scares the crap out of the tailgater and he lets up. If that doesn't work start throwing things out the window... bottles, tire wrenches, kitchen sink.

  5. In Thailand these tattoos are looked down upon by much of Thai society. Right or wrong it is a fact. Anyone venturing outside the bar/tourist scene and interacting with the Thai population will realize this soon enough. So if a woman has these she would be best to put them in subtle places.

The poster clearly does not like the tattoos on his partner. She knowingly received a tattoo to his opposition with no prior discussion. There are plenty of women who would have consulted her partner both in Thailand and abroad.

As a side note :) I was going to get a penis reduction from 14" to 8". I discussed it with my girlfriend and she begged me not to do it so I must continue to tape it to my leg when in public. :D

  6. The dog situation in Thailand is completely out of hand and the dogs need to be controlled or culled. Sorry to say it but it is true. Homeless dogs will form packs and when in packs the instincts take over and they act not much different than wolves (their ancestors). I have run into countless Thais and Expats alike who have been bitten or attacked by these stray dogs. It's an insane situation and anyone who says otherwise is either protecting their position as an owner of dogs or has not fully traveled or spent enough time in Thailand. I'd say the dangers of being attacked would be the number one physical danger in Thailand exceeding even traffic accidents particularly if you venture anywhere outside a highly populated commercial or tourism district such as residential sois, back roads, etc.

Does anyone know if Laos, Cambodia, Philippines, Vietnam have this type of crazy situation?

  7. I cannot cycle or run the 1km soi between home and a main road, instead take a longer route to avoid the ownerless soi dogs.

A local US lady feeds some of them, and has 'trained' a group of them to run with her when she rides her motorbike to the shop, so of course now they chase other motorbikes too; after Xmas this caused a woman with child to crash on our corner - a tight 90 deg bend where she had no chance but to slow down; all very slow speed but could have been worse.

I would happily poison the lot, and sleep easy, if I had access to an effective, quick method.

Once worked with a guy who had a dog problem and wrapped a hot dog inside uncooked bread dough. Apparently the dog ate it and that was it. I think a painful end to the dog but ironically he did not seem to have any reservations in doing it. Sad but true.

  8. I think many are being a bit harsh on this guy. I think this needs to be put in perspective as he is living in Thai society. A lot of posters here may not give a flying fck but if he does that is his choice.

She knowingly received the tatoo with his objections. She has the free will to do this but perhaps she should have considered his strong feelings against it?

  9. Sounds like Big Brother and Orwell 1984 to me. These Draconian security laws invade people's privacy and violate their constitutional rights and fools allow it in the name of "security". What a threat these so called terrorists have been... not a major strike to the U.S. since a bunch of wing nuts boarded a jet with box cutters. WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam and now all it takes a few loonies in a jet to strip Americans of their rights. Perhaps there is an ulterior motive at work?

  10. There's a few small bars around the area... I think you head south a couple blocks and then over a couple blocks to the west. I just can't remember the exact address but I remember being at a few when I stayed at this hotel. The hotel is good but their rates have doubled since I stayed there a couple years ago. Interesting.
