I think Thailand has made a huge mistake chasing an upscale client in a falling economy. The upscale market will always exist where the upscale clients want it to exist and it really doesn't require much marketing. In the process they have lost the backpacker/budget tourists and many used to spend a lot more but have downsized due to the economy. You may have noticed that Laos seems to be smartly welcoming the backpacker/budget tourist and should likely have continued growth. You must walk before you can run. Only problem with the Thai strategy is that they are running alone.

Okay here is my prediction for the Super Bowl: San Diego 21 Dallas 17

I asked my friend in Hua Hin how the high season is going and she said "very slow". I said how slow? She said about 80 percent slow.

Are you crazy spending four months in one place particularly an island. Transportation is cheap. I would check out Phuket, Chaing Mai, Bangkok with side trips to Hua Hin/Pattaya, Ko Samui, Ko P, Krabi and more than decide how to split up your trip. I can tell you most places are cheaper than Ko Samui.

Live and learn. Move on. Many of these girls are like the wind and can shift one way to the other. She probably loved you but she also loves her family and the guy she just met. I don't think anyone should really get serious with one of the girls until you are physically able to be with her all the time. Otherwise she'll use the opportunity to play a few guys at the same time and "pick and choose".
She also may have been working in a bar. This may explain her coming and going at all hours.
There are faithful girls out there but I think you need to develop a relationship with them over a certain amount of time. Love at first sight is always a bit suspicious.
Good luck.

Not defending the actions of the driver by any means but didn't the guy agree to 150 then offer 100. Probably not a good idea in any foreign country over 50 baht.

Dun be an idoit..The Thai Police acted on Interpol tipoff or similar agency's order.
They could't care for less unless being told by higher up.
I think it was Borat doing some investigative journalism. He followed the trail of vodka bottles and ravished barmaids.

I wonder if they are members of Thai Visa?
Wouldn't surprise me. The photo of that guy is spot on for how I picture most members of this forum.

You see in the West the elite employ a divide and conquer strategy where groups are played against each other by ethnicity, sex, etc. and the idea is to disunite as many as possible so no one group can challenge the elite. And of course all of this is made to appear as equality and justice for all.

Grizzly bears... camped near them... encountered them on hiking trails... chased by a black bear when young...

Just go settle the thing. 500,000 baht... tell them you can only pay 300,000 baht. Legal fees will take up hundreds of thousands of baht with a good lawyer.

<br /f

An American pastor called Linsey Williams who used to work in the oil fields of Alaska was on a talk radio show in July of last year. On it he said that the real people who control the price of oil will bring it down to $50 a barrel by the end of the year and keep it that way for months. This is when the price of oil was $140 a barrel and everyone was predicting it would hit $200 a barrel. He said the intention was to keep it at $50 till they bankrupted Dubai and to remind OPEC just who was running the show. He was laughed at by nearly everyone. He turned out to be correct in nearly everything he predicted. His " Non oil crisis " documentary also makes good viewing. I fully believe this whole crisis was managed to great effect and saw the biggest transfer of wealth in history.
This guy's story is rather interesting as he claims the massive oil find in Alaska was shelved by higher ups who did not want a low oil price nor American self sufficiency in oil. He was doing speaking tours but has been low key lately as he claims he has received death threats. There may very well be some truth to his stories. There has been a strong push by organized media over the last years to dismiss all counterclaims as conspiracy theory or nutjobs. When the public begins to investigate outside the main media they will find how things really work. The media here is controlled just like Pravda was controlled. The only real difference is they are smart enough to run the occasional counter stories but of course outweighed by the agenda. One need only look at all the economic greenshoot stories which go against all reality to see how the agenda is being pushed.
Also closer scrutiny will reveal the dotcom bust was more about taking control from liberal upstarts (remember aol and time warner?) than a market correction based on value. One need only look at the current stock market to see overvaluations as ridiculous as the dotcom bubble but you don't hear anyone hollering about fair market value now do you?

Suthep: Govt will not cancel ISA enforcement for now
Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said Wednesday that the government will have to monitor the situation for some time before deciding whether to cancel the enforcement of the Internal Security Act or not.
Suthep said although the red-shirt movement announced the indefinite postponement of its rally, the government would have yet to monitor the situation for a while.

Takki or whatever he calls himself is finished. Perhaps he has gone mad?

Once a scammer always a scammer... this man is nuts. Why didn't he take Ocho Cinco II?

hansnl>> I think he meant, what if the current government took the frozen asset and distributed it in the north, as a way to gain their support. Same is done in many socialist countries. (As horrid as it is.)
As the government already has the founds they can misuse them in any way they please. I'm on the basis that they shouldn't have had much of it (the state coffins, not reg. Thaksins frozen assets) at all from the start.
Precisely arrow straight to the heart. Do this and Thaksin is finished. Additionally, I really don't understand why the current government is not playing hardball with this guy. They should use the Cambodian alliance with Thailand against him. Where are all the rumours about Thaksin and Cambodia? There is ample opportunity to politically harm him in the rumour mill.
Hotel Operators Warned Against Further Discounting

What a ridiculous news release. First how can anyone be so dumb as to state "foreigners need to pay more". This should play real well with visitors. As if the statement to increase prices wasn't ridiculous enough he singles out the very people he is wanting to attract.
Okay I say raise the rate to that of Hong Kong or Singapore hotel rooms but let's also see that same level of service and the same level of pay for employees and the same level of taxation for the state.
This is nothing but a handful of greedy hotel owners trying to keep their profits in a falling economy.
