Share Your Asean Now Home Page Layout Hacks.
BeastOfBodmin replied to BeastOfBodmin's topic in IT and Computers
To get back to the defaults, you can click on the ASEAN NOW logo Then click on this icon. If you've already changed the defaults, I can't help you to get back to that setup. -
I am not sure if this is the correct forum. I didn't want to put it in the Support Forum, as I am not asking for support. This is in response to this closed thread in the support forum. I found the support forum while trying to find out how to customise the layout. Searching for how to customise got nowhere - even trying both customiSe and customiZe. I was looking for ways to rearrange the default layout on the home page, but I couldn't find a layout editor as such. By pointing and clicking in various ways (then forgetting how I got to some places), I came up with this alternative arrangement that at least banishes the popular contributors. The other side effects may not appeal, but here goes anyway. Maybe other nerds have their own hacks they could share? First, Select "Fluid" How is that for an uncluttered view? The right hand side now consists in a list of forums/ sub-forums. Click the box next to the forum name and it appears on the left. Search the page if you don't like scrolling. Click on "Unread Content"... ...To get a way to filter and display unread content since your last visit. To go back to the uncluttered view, click on "Forums" at the top & to the right of the ASEANNOW logo. Click on some forum names to display posts from that forum. If you select multiple forums the posts by default are merged and sorted by date. You can change this by clicking on "SORT BY".

Are high end smartphones worth the money (to you)?
BeastOfBodmin replied to impulse's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
Right about the limited OS updates. Samsung guarantee a minimum of 7 major updates for certain devices. Samsung have "not cheap" lines. I haven't had problems with old Android versions and app compatibility yet. The main reason I use Android rather than PhoneOS is Android irritates me less to use. I use macos on the desktop because that irritates me less to use than Linux or Windows. For me, camera is not a priority. Although this model has a 64MP sensor and a so-called ultra-macro mode, my wife prefers to use her S21 FE except when it is too full to store new photos/ vids 🙂. I can't take decent photos for s..t. I could root it, but that would break several of the financial apps I still use as they would refuse to run on a rooted phone. The thing seems to reboot randomly maybe once a month. But you should reboot once a week anyway. The screen becomes unresponsive sometimes, requiring a "Vulcan neck pinch" to reset it. I am considering putting a micro drive in the now spare SIMM slot because of the pain it is to manage files at the file level on Android (or PhoneOS for that matter). The battery might be showing signs of wear and tear. -

High end phones are not worth the money to me. A long time ago, my SO had an iPhone 6S, which was fine. At that time the prices were nowhere near as high as they are now. I didn't want to spend the money. Nowadays we all use Android, since my SO agrees the iPhone is not worth the extra cash. She is using a Samsung S21 FE. I still use my Realme X2 Pro that I bought in 2020. I selected it by going to gsmarena.com and filtered on price, headphone jack, at least dual SIM and battery size. Then I cross-referenced with specs on some benchmark sites and went looking for deals. -
For some reason the forum software doesn't want to quote your quotes. I will improvise... Then all the mooted replacement candidates have the same, wrong, ideas? Or is the UK in an economic situation that the Government cannot solve, irrespective the "solution" to the UK's economic problems? Methinks Rawnsley thinks only in terms of politics (how things are made to look) and not in terms of reality.

If there are any reading this thread with a fact-checker mindset: https://www.imf.org/en/Countries/GBR#ataglance The growth figure was updated from the previous 1.5% forecast, which is still in the spreadsheet mentioned below: You can download the CPI data from here, but you have to update the 1.5% to 1.6% yourself. https://www.imf.org/external/datamapper/PCPIPCH@WEO/OEMDC/GBR You can download real GDP growth data from here: https://www.imf.org/external/datamapper/NGDP_RPCH@WEO/OEMDC/GBR I combined the two spreadsheets and updated the IMF GDP projection from 1.5% to 1.6% I got a headache trying to find the Gilt price data so I gave up. I'm not sure if the numbers for 2024 are still projections (likely) or not. It's also difficult to know how much responsibility/ credit a government can take for inflation or GDP. I assume it's not known what the actual 2024 numbers are and the 2025 numbers are a projection. Note also the IMF predict essentially straight lines. It would be interesting to see how accurate their previous forecasts were. Labour have been in power for about half of the year. I conclude it's too early to see from IMF data what effect Labour have had on the UK economy, whether good or bad. In any case, neo-classical macroeconomic forecasting is not what one would call an exact science.

Exactly. One deducts the taxes paid in Country A from the due taxes in Country B. The reminder is the tax bill. Problem is that the Thai tax system has a relatively low tax threshold versus "The West", and you quickly hit the highest tax bracket. Thai Tax Calculation I am effectively retired here, though I draw no pensions as yet. The below is the result of THB 83,000 per month (~ 1mm p.a.), spouse does not work, one child in education, no other deductions at all. I would have to cough up THB 64,000 i.e. 6.4% in income tax before deducting taxes already paid in Country A. I assume you have to be working in Thailand to contribute to RMF, SSF & ESG, even though they want to tax as income monies that may not be income?

Russia invaded Ukraine 2022.02.24, no? It was still under Biden's watch. -

What struck me is the thread was started, not to discuss the affected Californians, but to cast Trump in a bad light. -

I don't get the "glass houses" reference, unless you think because I insult one politician it means I side with some random politicians of your choice. It's more accurate to assume as a first approximation all politicians are vile, venal and mendacious scum. Starmer's a born liar. Truss (good luck with that court case) was worse than a wet lettuce and as for Ol' BJ, he's a born liar too, but more out of the gutter press mould. -

"Trump" is English slang for "fart". As for the smell of Musk, this might be short-lived. Trump has no problem firing people.
