The British Embassy wouldn't give you yesterday's trash bag. Their citizens abroad are just an encumbrance to their cushy life. Many years back, we used to go out of our way to help our citizens abroad. -
Agreed. The agent's skivvy bowls in with a dozen passports and the IOs drop everything for them. Same with driving permits. It'd be hard to find one, apart from BJ, who isn't on the take.

Thais are just too undisciplined to obey rules. I think it's in their DNA. I think you'd have to start by imposing large deterrents ie big fines and prison time. Also the basic rules need enforcing ie everyone undergoes a proper test; all have to have a license to drive; all vehicles have to have a PROPER inspection and no one drives against the flow of traffic. Then you can start introducing stopping at red lights etc. -
I haven't been for a while, but it used to be best to go on a non public holiday weekday.

I've lived here in Pattaya for 16 years. Last year was not much of a winter and I have a feeling that this year is going to be the same. There hasn't been much dry/cool weather so far.

Quite right. I've said many times on here that Thai grown-ups are children in adult bodies.

So if you've lived here for 16 years, shop for "beer Chang t-shirts" and get hit by a vehicle on a zebra crossing with the lights in your favour, then it's your fault? That's reassuring, I don't wear t-shirts or drink beer Chang so I should be safe on the road.

I too was told photos at Jomtien must include one of us sitting on the bed, which I've no objection to as it saves my legs. They also take one with our neighbour when they visit the house. -
Ah the old hospital matron, the RSM of the NHS. Wish they'd bring them back, the nurses these days (bless them) are made to look like domestic workers.

In the new hardware place on Sukhumvit opposite Lotus, South Pattaya, returned card, but no money. Phoned bank and they said they'd return money inside a week. It was paid into my account after a couple of days. It was one of those rare SCB machines with a money tray which opens under the screen as opposed to a slot in the front.

I'd like the authorities worldwide to wipe out all fighting breeds. They're killer dogs, bred to be ferocious. If I wanted a dog as a pet, I would get a breed known for its gentleness. Only headbangers own killer dogs, they think it makes them look hard.

Ok if you live in a province where the land office will issue a usufruct. I couldn't get one in Pattaya eight years back, even through a lawyer.

How does he feel about Thais and other Asians buying land in the west? I bet he'd be the first to cry "Western Xenophobia" if it was stopped. Mind you, I can understand his fears in a way, I think the Chinese already own half the land in my area of Pattaya. Also, farang living here owning say half a rai would only use up a tiny portion of the total land area of this country.

My money goes on the driver not getting enough sleep prior to the journey and nodding off at the wheel. Thais can sleep on a washing line. RIP the innocent passengers.

Draft dodgers, I'll bet the farm. They'll be keeping their heads down, not wanting to be repatriated to the motherland. I don't think they'll have too many nice things to say about their own government at the moment.

So, I take it you're all in favour of Putin marching into a neutral, peaceful country and murdering its citizens without the rest of the world offering it help to defend itself. Maybe you yourself was a playground bully when you were a schoolboy and approve of this sort of thing. Personally, I think those who sit on the fence are worse than the bullies themselves.

Not so stupid. I've had land + house for 15 years now and if I had my time again. I'd rent. I'd love to have the freedom just to walk away if I wanted.

I know there are many on here of a left thinking persuasion who'll disagree with me, but I don't care and certainly won't bother to argue the toss, but this news disgusts me. Abortion in my opinion, is the premeditated murder of a child. Humankind seems to be regressing.
