The top of the ceiling is clad with slate stone.
Any suggestions on why this is happening, and how to repair and prevent it continuing?

For most people Acid Reflux is a issue with the Esophohogas muscle, ie your throat muscle does not remain closed and reflux occurs.
Simple actions are: Do not sleep on your right side, elevate your bed head end (Important), do not eat after say 9pm. Change what you eat, less acidic, eat smaller portions.
Buy some PPI's to reduce acid creation in the stomach, start with Omeprazole, after a year or so you may need to try Lansoprazole and eventually Pantoprazole.
You could consider an operation to tighten the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), a muscle at the bottom of the esophagus, when it doesn't close properly, but this is not guaranteed!
However for me the best answer was the IQORO method, a game changer, please read below. It really works!

Bangkok's transport system will soon offer commuters unlimited daily train travel on two key lines under a new 40 baht flat-fare scheme. Announced by Transport Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, the initiative aims to alleviate living costs and will be proposed to the Cabinet by November 18, with implementation expected on December 1.
The new fare scheme allows 24-hour unlimited rides at 40 baht for regular users, while students will pay 30 baht. Children, people with disabilities, and seniors over 60 will get free rides or a 50% discount based on eligibility. Pipat addressed concerns over fare increases, emphasizing benefits for regular travelers, such as a 50% reduction for parents using the service multiple times a day.
Only passengers using EMV contactless bank cards will qualify for the flat rate, with single-trip ticket buyers continuing to pay by distance. Pichet Kunathamarak, Director-General of the Department of Rail Transport, highlighted that this plan targets frequent users and could reduce government subsidy costs without needing additional budget.
This fare change follows the recent passing of the Joint Ticket Management Act on October 21, paving the way for a unified ticketing system. The government aims to implement this system within the first four months of its term, enhancing travel efficiency.
As the finance ministry explores designating the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) as the operator, the plan is crafted to maintain public debt within the 70% GDP cap. If approved, this 40 baht pass could significantly improve travel affordability and convenience for Bangkok's daily commuters.
Key Takeaways
- Bangkok introduces a 40 baht flat-fare for unlimited daily train travel.
- The fare applies to EMV card users and aims to benefit daily commuters.
- Plans align with the new Joint Ticket Management Act for integrated systems.

I have a personal apartment which is attached to my house, part of it has a kettle and toaster. I have had this apartment for about 12 years and now for the first time I am very badly affected by these very small ants, they are always now in my kettle, all over the very small table, and a plate I keep on it.
Can anyone tell me how to get rid of them, I have tried the spraying of vinegar mixed with water which is useless, I don't know anything about queen ants and trails. If I want to have a snack, I now have to go up to the kitchen. Anyone got any ideas?
Ants etc are attracted by food particles, anything left out on a worktop will attract them.
If you must leave your toaster out, then buy a sealable food bag and place the toaster ((cold) in the bag sealed when not in use.
Finally clean your worktops and cupboards etc.
Tea Tree oil is very effective against ants etc.

That is not strictly true. A widow is entitled to inherit a percentage of additional state pension. However it is a complicated and discriminatory arrangement but discrimination has no place in the UK governments vocabulary.
Only potentially on the old state pension.
In the UK, when a spouse or civil partner dies, the surviving partner may be eligible to inherit a portion of their deceased partner's Additional State Pension (also known as State Second Pension or SERPS) or a protected payment. The amount inherited depends on factors like the deceased's date of birth, when they reached state pension age, and whether they had deferred their pension. It should be noted this is NOT 50% of the pension, merely a very small payment, about £10 a month. -

The UK State Pension no longer offers any pension to foreign based wives.
Exception: If she has a pension in her own name from her employment if any in the UK.

Thailand faces a troubling surge in rabies-related fatalities, with deaths tripling compared to last year.
The Department of Disease Control (DDC) reported that this year has seen seven deaths from rabies across Chon Buri, Sisaket, Chachoengsao, Nakhon Ratchasima, Tak, and Rayong. The increase has triggered concerns about public awareness and animal vaccination practices.
Dr Phanumart Yanawetaskul, DDC's Director General, disclosed that 90% of these infections were contracted from dogs and 10% from cats. The Department of Livestock Development recorded 164 rabies-positive animals, highlighting a growing issue.
Provinces most affected include Ubon Ratchathani, Buriram, Songkhla, Surin, Maha Sarakham, Nakhon Ratchasima, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Mukdahan.
Dr Phanumart emphasised the importance of immediate action after exposure — washing wounds thoroughly, seeking medical help, and adhering to the rabies vaccination schedule are critical steps to prevent fatal outcomes. Wounds should be cleaned with soap and water for 10–15 minutes, followed by antiseptic use. Medical advice must be sought to initiate a full vaccination course. Animals involved should be monitored for ten days.
The rise in rabies cases is attributed to several factors: unvaccinated pets, improper wound care, and adopting stray animals without understanding the risks. Self-administered vaccines by pet owners may compromise effectiveness, resulting in lower than desired vaccination coverage. Unsupervised pets risk exposure to rabid animals, exacerbating the problem.
Public health officials urge the public to take rabies seriously and follow preventative measures. Annual vaccinations for pets by qualified veterinarians are crucial for maintaining effective immunity.
Dr Phanumart's key message to individuals bitten by potentially rabid animals is clear: wash, medicate, isolate, consult, and vaccinate.
For more information or assistance, contact the Department of Disease Control through their hotline at 1422. The urgency of this public health issue cannot be overstated, and community vigilance is vital in combating the spread of rabies and safeguarding lives.
In a climate where rabies remains a prevalent threat, taking swift and informed action can prevent further tragedies. The ability to recognise potential risks and respond appropriately lies at the heart of controlling this deadly disease.
