I use concrete ongs for household water. I have 20 in 5 rows of 4. we started with 4 and I gradually built it up to 20 cross connected. They hold about 1,700 litres each but only about 1,500 usable. I have another 7 to one side not connected as spares and if necessary I can pump from them.

I also have 2 x 3,000 litre stainless steel tanks for rainwater collection from the roof of the main house.

For one house or for the whole village!

  2. If you can get inside roof area, then line with plastic sheeting, heavy duty 1 meter wide rolls are available at most hardware stores for that purpose, affix with a nail gun, and seal nails with silicone...done!!   (I have relined two houses this way, (start top down with overlap) new house I had the builders line with plastic before roof tiling laid)

One advice if I may, don't go for the Blue Tanks, yes they are cheap, but they are cheap for a reason.

They let light go true them and with light and hot weather these tanks will be a breeding ground for algae !!

Spend some more money and get a tank that for example shows a sticker that it's Food Grade !

Thanks, it will in a outside room.

  4. How much do you think it would cost to buy and fit a simple above ground water tank and pump etc for a small village family house? It is already connected to erratic mains water, but at a low pressure etc.

What parts are needed, I assume a water tank (Blue thing) and an automatic pump?

    Thanks for advice

  5. "Welcome to Thailand" They do not care at all, why should they? First impressions count etc!

Poor Immigration, Poor Police, Poor long stay rules, poor Baht value, bad attitude Thai's etc (not all though) but like D Trump says if you don't like it "LEAVE"!!

Either accept it, get on with your life and look forward to tomorrow or sorry to say go elsewhere, but it might be just the same!

Your description of "almost catching it" with a stick rather gave the idea you seem to have a lot of time for such ????

Getting in terms with the fella might win you a whole soi worth of dogs keeping you afloat there - well what do I know, just domesticating these wild ones with the help of my dog ????

I'm sorry for anyone with Soi Dog trouble, they are territorial and I'm sure there is no good answer.

For me, there was a nasty street dog who would snarl at anyone going past etc, me I used to leave outside my house a little left over food, then eventually the dog would wag his tail etc when he saw me, I even let him sleep under the outside patio roof when raining. The locals used to say to me "thats a dangerous dog", and as soon as the dog cames towards them they would get the stick etc, they were shocked when he came to me, licked my hand and sat down!

Anyhow, to finish...one day a crazed druggy Thai was running towards me with a machette, the dog caming flying round the corner, teeth showing, fortunately he did not attack the guy, but he would not let him move at all, for about an hour, then he had to slowly crawl away safely...so not all Soi dogs are bad, thats all I'm saying!!  Have a nice day!

Definitely looks like dust or bed mites or small mot bites.. I'd be checking around your bedding and spray with a good insecticide around bed box, sheets and doona.

After a couple of hours wash everything in washing machine. Hopefully you've got spare sheets in the mean time..

Purchase a tube of Bethasone-N cream or equivalent in a gel from a pharmacy and apply 2-3x daily.. This is recommended for insect bites to reduce itch and any possibility of infection. Store in fridge or under 30C.

Actuallt there is a new very good cream now available, namely QUADRIDERM

It is an antifunglal, antibiotic anti-inflammatory, check it out.

However I think you have had the sweats, from the flu etc, it is possible you have "Prickly Heat Rash". Buy some Prickly Heat soap and Prickly heat Talcum powder,   ....at worst it will relieve the symptoms.

  8. Thank you for your figures, I guess your spend is high as a working person, here are mine as a retired person:

    A nice pint of  beer - £3.70

I'm not knocking Thailand at all, I still love it there, but poor long term health made it impossible to live permanently in Thailand, (And bad mis-diagnosed, over treated drugs etc, very expensive treatment at certain International HospitalsI) I moved back in 2018 to the UK.  Holidays are great in Thailand etc as well!

I agree, the first check should be to see there is no water running down the back of the bowl, is easily checked and easily resolved by adjusting the ballcock.

Other than this sounds like a leak, if you can isolate any areas, with a shut off valve etc , you can eliminate options.

Quite right, most often it is a leak and easy to confirm...fit a shut off valve on the input to the house and if pump stops running, there you are. The only other issues mght be you need to bleed the pump (usually a bleed screw on top of pump) a leaky water tank or a wrongly plumbed system or too high a pressure setting on the pump.

The family of the Thai will be coming for the Swiss guys bank account with cops as the referee.

What if a farang on a bike swiped a vehicle driven by a Thai and farang died?

Case closed most likely.Maybe a fine of 500 b which can be appealed.

Most know that in Thailand, if you get involved in an accident, you do not speak to anyone or sign anything ever! Just call your insurance and get them to deal with it. Full stop! Never give up your passport or visit a police station without your insurance and ideally with a lawyer.

Well my thought was that if I gave them cash it might have been hard to get the deposit back

( if they where dishonest )

whereas the credit card has "full protection"  from  fraudulent use  ( due to good UK credit card law)

and also had a maximum limit of 800 UK pounds.

Yes it wasn't the best option to leave a card with them..however they where honest, no problems when I returned the car  they looked it over ( I hadn't crashed it )  card returned  smiles all round  no spurious/fraudulent charges to my credit card at all... must be lucky..but never win the lottery ????

Later! So you gave free access to your credit card and the code on reverse!  then you think your card will you give you fraud protection? No chance in hell! They will say your fault!

    Duh!! "Smiles all round"!

this is the problem just how reliable is it posting to uk??

Inexpensive and fairly quick  3-5 days  to send by Thai Registered  post and I've tracked all the way to the actual  time delivered.

  13. You will get no help whatsoever from the condo management, unfortunately most just don't care.  most of the time it needs chlorine added,...what I did was buy some chlorine tablets  / blocks and on the quiet throw one in every day, hey presto...after 4 days water went clear and containment went to bottom of the pool. Then I asked them to clean out the dirt etc which they did.   now I just throw one in occasionally, no smell and clear. I'm sure many will say wrong etc, but was that or nothing
