  1. There is a large hardware shop on the corner of third road and Soi Chayapoon. Or close to that location anyway.

Seemed to have tons of different stuff, very packed shop. I'd give that a go.

    Tried there, no luck!

  2. your observations & comments may be correct but have you never noticed that tides change and so does the associated garbage - both in and out?

Why then is it that I dont see tons of garbage at other beach shores along the Coast? ie Lam Chabang, Sattahip, Bang Phra, Sean Suk.

Pattaya is just where the garbage is thrown overboard from barges from the Islands etc and barges paid to dump out in Deep sea!

  3. I want to go sea fishing...I know about the Expat fishing trips, but I believe there is a bar down town somewhere that offer overnight trips etc, does anyone know where this bar is please?

  4. Yes you can get a 3rd party to get a residency certificate (I did that when I was sick) ...as to driving licence you must go in person as your image (photo) is scanned by their computer at time of application.

    Good luck

  5. Bank Gold will not accept them, they have a sign up saying so, sorry.

I had a few and eventually found the exchange at the front of Viila Supermarket would take them.

OP, if you already have reservations regarding exchanging the pre-2011 50 pound notes in Pattaya, why don't you just tell your friend to exchange them for the newer version before leaving for LOS? Or why hasn't he thought of that? Rather curious......

Assuming the notes are genuine, I don't see a problem exchanging them at Bank Gold, Soi Rungland, just off Pattaya Tai and just east of 3rd Rd. They also tend to give a slightly better exchange rate than the more, "tourist" exchange booths towards the beach / central Pattaya.

  6. Realy???

I just took my new passport into Pattaya Immigration and they put some stamps in the new passport, no charge and finished?

Just to cheer you all up when you recieve a new passport you have to go to BKK in person to recieve your free 'please transfer any visa ' etc letter for immigration.

You can of course get a new passport from HK with just sending a photocopy of your passport.

    Amazing.

  7. I checked last week, one calendar month.

Just to save me a trip to Immigration to check, does anyone know how long in advance you can apply for an Extension of Stay (Retirement) at Immigration, and how long the Proof of Pension letter from the Consulate is valid for?

The last time I renewed my passport at the Bangkok Embassy they sent me back my old passport and someone else's new passport, so I'd prefer not to send them anything less important such as bank statements, etc, that I might need and they may take less care with.

  8. FROM British Embasssy site Bangkok

During the first three weeks of November the British Consulate in Pattaya will open to the public for enquiries and notarial services on Wednesday and Thursday from 09:00 – 11:30. Dates of opening will be 7/8 Nov, 14/15 Nov and 21/22 Nov. After this the Consulate will close.

If you need emergency assistance please telephone the British Embassy in Bangkok on 02 305 8333 and follow the instructions to be put in touch with a staff member who will assist you. If you are in the UK, please call the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on 020 7008 1500.

  9. Afaik: For a 'Farang alone' normal 'Bankcard to use at ATM' account: There is nothing over 1% available.

Better look for a bank with lots of branches and ATMs!

For better interest, you would need to 'share' with a Thai, anyway!

Or did I miss any news about this interest on Farang owned bank accounts?

Well sorry but that's wrong, even Krung Thai offer 2.75% P.a.
