  1. to me the real pisser is that all the metered taxis will never use that meter here in cm-tuk tuk drivers are of course and everybody knows that scam artists, not all and not everywhere oc course.

i get one from serapi to the airport or vice versa for 100.but it has to be negotiated

  2. Its not as bad as it looks most of the people there are for other reasons. Last time I got there at 7:45 and was out of there at 11:00 that is the longest I have ever had to wait. That was the time I renewed my retirement visa. Other times out by 9:30 But what the heck I am retired so I take a book with me or find some interesting people to chat with. Once they told me to come back in the afternoon that was for a renewal I came in and was out in one and a qurter hours with my retirement and multiple entry.

exactly what i think -i am an early riser and had good luck getting the visa in reasonable time.

thanks to all -tv always comes through rolleyes.gif

  3. probably more of a shake down than a crack down

but hopefully chiang mai will be not more prudish as it is now

families and couples aren't either -only some people

generally the ones the go to loi kroh just to point their finger at it.

why don't they go to a temple instead and talk to a monk.

    now there is an idea.

  4. you boil the milk and let it cool down to a good body temperature like when you have a fever and touch your forehead-about 40 c.then add a couple spoons of yogurt-stir let it sit warm -i wrap it in towels- for about 3 to 5 hrs or until done-firm.refrigerate or eat.\

    save and know your foods.

  5. i can't really offer what you're looking for- then again- there were no takers...

the guy that did my water system sold(sells)them,is very smart reliable and speaks good english .

unfortunately i don't have a name but when you come from the city and are on the way to hangdong after the underpass of the superhighway robinson will be on the right and my guy on the left before you get to lotus.just drive slowly and look for big watertanks ,he has like a drive through parking space in front of his business with a roof over it.other people work there too of course but just ask for the boss and he might be able to help you with whatever it is -since you didn't really tell. good luck .

another place seemed to have solar eqpmt on the road to global the same side coming from big c.they were closed when i was there....

  6. the road to katiem/JJ market has plenty of burmese laborers( some even speak english

And some of them are here legaly.

most if not all the construction projects are done by burmese workers ,like the meridian for example

do not underestimate them and their talent.if you hire a thai contractor that is what you will most likely get-burmese labor.

the only thing wrong with that is that they are underpaid

  7. your lack of knowledge as proven by your post (if it is what you say) means you haven't been here long enough to buy in any case.take the advice given -rent first get a little bit of a feel for the place then buy a condo if you think cm is for you. you will inevitably meet someone here if you're single and then you might want to relocate.be advised also that selling is a lot harder than buying.take your time -as long as you have the money the power is yours.

  8. I understand that the cheapest and best way to make water drinkable is to put it into clear plastic bottles, then leave it in the sun for an hour or more.

Seen on one of those BBC programs (the UV from the sun does it)

i keep and breed fish and in order to feed the fry i do just that -put the water in clear bottles in the sun and then a lot of algae and little critters too small to really see them grow which the fry feeds on.i wouldn't drink it.

find a machine with revers osmosis.and get it there.it is safe to drink it just doesn't have any minerals .when the filter is full it should clog.

  9. Then I've read something about a place called 'sripat'? (I may have got that name slightly wrong)

Sripat Building is part of Maharaj Hospital, known as Suan Dok Hospital by locals. It is supposedly staffed by doctors who teach at CMU. The standard of care from what I've found, is equivalent to Ram. Any medication you get tends to be less expensive. Not sure about surgery prices.

i just had surgery there and the price was less than 10% of the same procedure in the us(about 80% of what was quoted at ram). navigating the building is easy and you will be well taken care off.my first choice after trying and looking at others.

  10. if you or the missus speaks thai and you dare to really save there is another possibility

the road to katiem/JJ market has plenty of burmese laborers( some even speak english and you might find a foreman there too) you can get everyday just for a day and the price will be from 200/250 up depending on how cheap you want to be .of course you need a vehicle and get the materials but that is not difficult either.and you can just manage the project yourself.i built my own house and had to get involved more and more to maintain a certain standard-in the end it was just that -the contractor dropped off the workers everyday and i told them what i wanted them to do.of course you need to know something about building here.but it is not too hard telling others what to do.really,i'm not joking.

  11. many views no takers

me too i don't think they have it but there is a place that sell lots of aluminum on cm lampang road 106 right after the intersection with the third ring road i think it is 1021 on the right hand side.maybe they can get it for you if you show them a picture or a sample.and yes they have somebody who speaks english and they sell a lot of glass too.

  12. i did see one recently but not sure where-maybe jj market -it looks deserted now but still has a few shops.

but maybe another place.i had several requests in my long woodworking career but without going into the details i can tell you it is a lost (and expensive)proposition.
