  1. Rotweiler wins,(on cost), but garmin are now blocking it's use on Mapsource and subsequently transfer to GPSr, You must get only version 6137..no later

Only problem with Rotweiler, it won't route the wrong way up a one way street, I have requested a mod. Does show all the bars though.

  2. There are umpteen free maps for virtually any area in Thailand, not routeable, however Rotweiler have SUPERB routeables, even show every bar in Bangkok. They cost very very little, Garmin are releasing new mapsource software which won't recognise Rotweiler, so get vers 6137, b4 they delist it.

The price of GPSr is horrendous compared to US, virtually giveaways now, as the swishier models are introduced.

  3. Thai law procedures slow Ok, An Indian banker who did a bunk to Canada after alledgedly scamming zillions fro BCC is still there..10 years on while

extradition "proceeds" see http://www.nriinternet.com/NRI_Fraud/ASIA/...a/1_crooked.htm $88 million

One feature I smiled at was the RCMP sent an investigator here..a corporal, and I'm sure he knew his stuff. Of course half a dozen generals were meeting with him..what's the equation here?

2 Thai Police actually followed him to Canada at the time completely ex-officio, and they were all "caught'" negotiating in a car park with a car and a trunk full of money..alledgedly

  4. There are many universities here as you probably already know.

For Tailing Chan, travelling there is very interesting, if you go to

    http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...33-42b57b098657

you will find some interesting info on the journey. There are many buses from Victory Monument on that route, apart from horrendous

traffic, there are other hazards mentioned in the link. You could of course live near the Uni..25 year old Dane wow ! the girls will put

you up for free. Great contrast to the besotted wretches they might normally encounter.

However, while the mode of study may be given as English, it probably is not, except where lecturers are farangs.

I expect the content of the courses is demanding, but because of the "no-one fails" system which I'm advised operates at all

education levels, your degree won't get much if any recognition I think.

Looking at the ads as I travel along there, there is some strong IT stuff taught.

My advice without knowing you is go for it, but check carefully about costs and student visas.....this is THE SITE for reliable info on visas.

    Good Luck to You

  5. in my experience it is "the experienced " thai women that are the jealous types, and its not usually over love, its a fear of you spending "their " money on someone else while you are out, remember, whats yours is hers and whats hers is her own,.

This goes back a veeeerrrryyy loooooong way, First Book on Thai Girls, in these matters.."Woman of Bangkok"..at least 50 years ago.

Guy gives girl say 5000 baht for release from bar, pocket money etc for a joint trip to boonies.

At the station she selects a 5 baht comb from vendor and puts her hand out to the guy for the money. "I just gave you 5000 baht" he shouts. "That's MY money" she says.

It's a great book shows how nothing really ever changes, I guess you all know the Latin for that.

He sees a traffic accident, stops to help and is accused etc etc....

  6. Lots of bad experiences with dogs, expensive painful tooth replacement for one.Very expensive glasses destroyed.

One time a pack of dogs really p***ed me off, in the boonies. I went to the police box, blowing hard, woke the guy on duty, and explained in my fluent Thai, which for some reason, Thais don't understand. Jakayan. mah, jai rawn, mai di etc made little effect.

I then produced a Baht1000 note, and tapped the map on his wall. He buckled on his gun, took a can of mace and we were off.

No problem again with the dogs, BUT..a week later, the Thai technicians at my factory told me that THEY had heard of my fracas and had killed and ate the dogs.

I kept running into dogs, and when passing a farang Kennels, I went in and explained my problem to the owner, he outlined a number of solutions, the best was HE HAD A DOG THAT ATE DOGS..a real monster.

The noise is also a problem I could not live without my Boots Ear Plugs (WAX) not obtainable here, or with great difficulty.

If you want to poison local dogs always make a pretence of being a dog lover, and being distraught when they die.

  7. Of course, Thailand is full of farangs making money: Teachers, and we make around 30,000-35,000 baht per month. Let me tell you, that isn't so cheerful.

i really am not being rude ,but how the heck can anybody survive on 35k a month ?

Easy...25 baht per day for food, mama noodles, 5 baht a pack, 100 baht per night share dorm, remainder for sex.

  8. Very hesitant to post, but here goes. Enjoy.

It all sounds bog-standard. But. It is possible that she's on the up and up.

Here's the old Thailand wisdom that I have a small problem with. 'She will NEVER put you before her family'.

After 5 years with my wife, I can categorically state that it isn't true in her case. (Howls of laughter in the background... Look, he says mine's different :o )

I am a pretty cynical not-so-old bastard. I didn't come to this conclusion easily, but I am not willing to lay out our life story on the net.

Furthermore, I also know a couple other Thai females for which this holds true.

I know Thai culture is this great monolithic unmovable thing in most peoples minds, and it holds true for the vast majority of Thai people, but it doesn't mean that ALL Thai adhere to it religiously. There are a growing number of people here that are changing their views and personal culture. A great deal depends on you, whether you can establish a personal contact - not easy if faced with cultural and language problems, not to mention the mutually-advantageous-contract style of a lot of relationships.

I wonder (maybe a poll) how many guys married to Thai females for a while would have found this after a few years together. I suspect there are a few.

Good example of "The exception proves the rule"

  9. This common tale reminds me of a conversation with a 747 captain regarding a reported crash where a particular alarm was being sounded in the cockpit. I questioned him why the pilot had not taken heed of the alarm. He told me there are dozens of alarms, flashing lights, buzzers. horns, shaking bits and pieces etc. He explained that at the point of GO- NO GO, it would not matter if they were all sounding..substitute topics/threads/tales as the analogy.

BTW there is/was a guy sitting on the pavements in bangkok with his whole sorry story badly written on a large scroll...he was no troll.

BTWwhere is that exquisite topic about the guy whose wife is sticking him for the 200k loan. It's my daily doose of schadenfreude and I CAN"T FIND IT

My friend who has been here 40 years (they are building a staue of him in soi 7) says "Free sex is the most expensive"

I have spent 95% of my income on the girls here, gold chains. pigs, a pick up truck, motosai repairs and on..the rest of it I wasted..but MARRY..not a chance.
