  1. Yes qualified teachers. I have one staff who is a UNI grad and she cannot read English and barely speaks it despite several years of English classes apparently. On the other hand, I have another staff, no UNI, and is fluent in both reading and speaking English which he studies on his own.

Who knows though, maybe they should be studying Chinese instead.

  2. After some research by contacting the distributors on a few items they sell there I think Ive decided to open a mini villa marketlaugh.gif. Some of the things (certain condiments, Processed meats, and snacks) are marked up over 3x the wholesale cost. Maybe i'm naive but i always thought a supermarket was at most 15% mark-up. The wholesalers did not require a huge order either, in 2-5000baht range.

So I guess i'm saying those telephone numbers on the Thai labels can pay off if you want to save a bundle on items you frequently use.

Nothing against villa, they can charge whatever the market will bare.

  3. I have never had a problem with Thais about my cars or bikes, all say nice car, bike, the problem i have is with farangs, go figure

Until you have an accident and the police hold your bike for ransom.

  4. I think Ive seen 2 in rawai at about 8am. No swords or anything, but blocking traffic. a few of them came towards me with a tree with money on it so i did a 180laugh.gif

  5. It really doesn't matter, when I was in my 20's I had 2 houses, exotic cars, the newest and best of everything and in the end I wasn't very happy and I don't think anyone was really that impressed. Yes i still have nice things, but things that I enjoy and not for others to look at.

When I first got here I was paying 75,000/mo for a house in which I was the only one living, bought a nice car but all of it was more of a hassle than anything. Unless you want to become a target for all sorts of nonsense it is best to keep whatever money you have in the bank and not on display.

  6. I enjoy taking my family to thai nightclubs at 4:30am

And the womman attacked / robbed in the middle of the day ???

What about it? Europe and south America is far worse for bag snatches and worse. I doubt Thailand is in the top 20 for violent crimes against foreigners. It's unfortunate when it happens here or anywhere. The frustration it seems in Thailand is that the people committing the crimes are hardly caught, and if they are nothing happens. But, thats not going to change any time soon. Only thing you can do here or anywhere in the world is be more vigilant.

Wonder what happened to the thai guy who shot the German for flipping him the Bird?

  7. so what's in its place now? makes you wonder, Ive seen successful restaurants in Phuket (kata) get strong-armed out only to be replaced by a sub-par copy.
