Does BBC count as British media?

"Ex-Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick proposes migrant crime data is published," 30 March 2024 By Suzanne Leigh,BBC News

    • "Details of nationality, immigration and visa status should be recorded whenever a criminal is convicted, ex-immigration minister Robert Jenrick has proposed.
    • At the end of June 2023, there were 10,321 foreign nationals in prison in England and Wales, out of a total prison population of 85,851.
    • More than half of foreign prisoners were European. The most common nationalities were Albanian, Polish, Romanian, Irish and Jamaican."

Currently in Europe going by nationality or even 'European' has to be questioned, it can be someone from any corner of this realm. It's one of the things I respect about Thailand is that they keep some coherence to being considered Thai. You can't just move to Thailand, mooch around for 5 years and eat some pad Thai and get citizenship.

Thai media appears to be inciting racial tensions. Anything bad about a farang gets front page billing. Thai on Thai…yawn.

Or maybe these farang stories only get top billing in English Thai media in order to incite opinions among farang. Equally bad in my book.

The media should show some responsibility and report matters of consequence, not race.

It's actually just this site lol. Thai news is mostly full of more serious incidents (sometimes silly..) which of course mostly involves locals.

You must not know many Thai's as it is pretty popular of course in a Buddhist country.

The Thai Vegetarian festival, locally known as the Jae Festival, is a nine-day vegetarian food festival celebrated all over Thailand.

Not to mention all the Jae restaurants everywhere (the ones with the Yellow Logo)

That aside many upcountry Thai's may eat meats but usually sparingly in a Nam Prik form. Not in Slabs like most westerners

    Jae.webp

Absolute nonsense. Eating meat 'sparingly' or being a vegetarian is not the same as veganism. A vegan will not even have backyard chickens for eggs. A lot of religions have times for restrictions on animal products, and yes including Buddhism. Also a lot of the people who eat meat sparingly is due to affordability, just like in Europe poor people would have stews where meat was the minority of a serving. Do you know where you find vegans? In Western cities such as London, Berlin, Sydney, LA etc  Oh and one other outside of the west of course - Chiang Mai.. It would make more sense if the woo woo spiritual Vegans (who rarely last more than a few years before their health declines) would go to India. A large chunk of Hindus are vegetarians, but again not vegans, they consume a lot of dairy products.

  4. I remember veganism was being pushed really hard in the West 5-10 years ago, and as far as I can tell it remains a mostly Western failed movement/ideology. It seems to have died down from what I can tell since the c00f. I remember the typical city dwelling Western vegan's holy land was Chiang Mai, which did confuse me as I think I can count Thai vegans I have met on one hand and they eat a... wide variety... of animals.

  5. I will say petty theft is less common in Thailand in my experience than Europe in general, but anecdotal dribble aside and onto more serious stuff, the murder rate in recent years in Thailand is always around 3-4 times higher than the UK. Admittedly it's better than when I first visited Thailand nearly 20 years ago and has generally gone down every year, back then I would see things on local news that gets a brief mention for a day or two that would get international exposure if it was an incident in a Western country. It's similar to how this site often highlights petty crime by foreigners when in the same time period more serious crime has been committed by Thai citizens. Not a fan of double standards. However I do think the murder rate will continue to generally drop over the coming years, and internationally it's on the moderate side so I wasn't trying to fearmonger anyone.

  6. Posts like this is where I am with the Thai people. Like who cares what you think about a subject like this? The only time I complain is about sites like this one (asean.com aka thaivisa) or when the government try to highlight/attack foreigners as problems, when I know for a fact foreigners are actually a small problem in Thailand and most of the problems worth talking about are home grown. I watch local news in Thailand and actually talk to people on the street. I know what's going on. Other than that I am not butting into their business or issues.

  7. Without becoming boring I just want people to know where you are. Thailand usually has a higher murder rate than nearly every European country every year. I really like Thailand, have done for 20 years, but it's not Switzerland or Japan. Exercise caution and no, your biggest threat is not foreigners, but Thais, unless you roll out of bed into a foreigner promoted bar everyday and that's your (sad) life. That's the reality.

On personal experience: Klong Toey, Huay Kwang around market area, used to be Pratunam.

Indeed Samut Prakan and Bang Kapi slums.

those are "no go zones" at night. During day Bangkok is very safe

A more real post although I wouldn't class any of those areas as 'no go zones' but at least you recognize areas that are actually worth mentioning towards requiring caution, I would also add a few area of Phaya Thai at night. Areas with tourists or foreigners are not worth mentioning, like a lot of newbie clowns in this comment section are trying to say. You really know nothing or are just deceitful.

    Any areas with foreigners.

You are safe amongst the Thai's, peaceful, friendly people.

Sure you get the occasional bad Thai but from my experience, many years of living here in Thailand, it's the foreigners you got to avoid.

Yeah and i'm sure you hang around areas with foreigners also. You have no idea my guy. You're naive and wet behind the ears.

I want a lot of things but will not succeed.

I agree with your post, but....how you would separate the good visitors/expats from the bad?

An IQ test? I doubt it. Then for all😂. Oh God🥴

    What would YOU do?

Anyone being antisocial who is on a tourist visa - blacklisted for 'x' amount of years depending on the offence. BUT HOWEVER before that happens the authorities should clamp down on red light district activity and full moon party shenanigans. They practically invite these groups of degenerates. BUT AGAIN HOWEVER I have no power regarding this and so I just generally stay cool about petty stuff. As far as I am concerned Thailand at this point would thrive with a clean society and push for clean living expats/tourists.. but agendas, higher powers, I don't know what the plans are for this realm and why I don't get too worked up.

  11. Very sad and I hope the authorities are going to put as much effort into this as possible and media outlets with integrity should keep updating on stages of SAD AND GENUINELY HORRIFIC events that happen to locals by locals with more vigor and empathy. This kind of thing is not even that rare and why I don't really want to hear about a Portuguese woman getting her titties out or a Drunken Brit getting into a petty brawl being portrayed as somewhat equal offences and incidences as what was reported here. Those with a soul and conscience would put such articles into a sub section, with main articles such as this getting the attention.

It's okay, nobody is genuinely concerned, we all just saw some blurry boobs on a woman in a sarong and.. and, it's going to take some time for us to process that.

I'm glad you take it like that, but really what I am trying to get people to wake up to is why this site reports specifically of foreign people commenting the most petty offences? Specifically those from Western (read White) countries. I mean this site has always been a bit like that when it was ThaiVisa, but now it's a total clown fiesta it seems. Again having integrity and honour I don't like perversions of the truth which this site seems intent on portraying.
