It is Thai etiquette. A Thai person is respected more than a farang by another and will be served first.

Hmm. Must be a new one. Could make my visits to busy Tesco and Familymart stores kinda awkward though constantly being booted to the back of the queue.

  2. Pattaya. Better in just about everyway with the exceptions of Jomtien having a slightly nicer beach and having the district's immigration office on your doorstep. You will also find Jomtien a pain in thevass without your own wheels.

no, I am 25, currently in the UK, have a job here, but this health issue thing is effecting me mentally,  been living with it since end of June and I'm fed up with life because of it, so I'm just having crazy thoughts at the moment.

Just in case this isn't a troll post: living in a foreign country such as Thailand with health issues and no way (I am assuming) to support yourself long-term is probably one of the more horrible ideas I have ever heard. Unless you have terminal cancer or something equally nasty you are probably overreacting.

We need to face reality . Most educated girls with a job and future have no interest in relationships with felangs .

A lot have no interest of course, but some westerners have a bigger selection than others.

Anyway I don't want to get into issues other people have had with women out here, more just that the OP doesn't make the common mistake with females that so many newbies have done before.

Enough with the "don't get involved with a BG" stuff, please. I've had BG girlfriends that were far, far nicer than the western hag from hell that I took up with when I was young and desperate.

Thai BGs usually aren't crack addicted whores like western street walkers. However, they will take advantage of farang desperation to meet a woman that doesn't treat them like dirt ( like they get treated by women back "home" wherever that is ).

Personally I think it is better to look for a woman who is in a stable job and/or education than to get involved with a woman who is working as a prostitute.

I must admit I have never met a bar girl who was on crack, but plenty of meth heads. Only 2 nights ago in Sugarbabies a couple of girls high of their faces started kicking off right in front of me.

  6. Messing with random Thais is just a huge mistake sadly, especially in Pattaya. The thugs smiling in the picture deserves some international attention though, that is just too much.

I have had altercations with Thais before, but they have been with friends/girlfriends where there is emotional connections. As most people know here fighting in Thailand is rarely a macho 1 on 1 thing like a lot of drunken brawls in western countries, but a win at all costs affair. Just have to be careful, not acting like an idiot helps.

  7. I don't care what nationality committed this crime. This is a petty shoplifting case in a town with ridiculous levels of prostitution, high murder rate and drug related issues. There was things that I witnessed and heard about when I live in Pattaya back in the day that made me seriously question my stay there, but a couple of Farangs pinching cosmetics from a corner shop would rate pretty low on my "get me the <deleted> out of this place" meter.

  8. I think looking for another location to settle in isn't a bad idea at all. It isn't hard to leave Pattaya behind these days, and I was once a fan of the place.  However, you may be like me and be looking for a Thailand that isn't there anymore. I used to love long stays in BKK and Pattaya back in the day. The assault on the senses is still there, along with the food, climate and most other things I love about Thailand, but what always made Thailand for me in the cities was the people more than anything. Really did deserve the title LoS before-Smart phones and mass tourism had taken its toll.

I haven't even spent much time in Thailand in recent years, but it's a drug, I must come back. Maybe I will never get that feeling again and there isn't another SEA country that excites me enough. Might even try the sticks. Only spent a few days in Isaan in all my time there... Keep us updated OP. I like your posts as you come across as sincere most of the time. GL.

  9. How strict are the rules on visa runs/border bounces these days? Is the one bounce rule actually enforced or are the authorities just cracking down on serial offenders? Would doing two runs for instance be risky and simply not worth the risk of possible issues? When I used to come for long stays in Thailand (03-07 period) there wasn't any real restrictions to visa runs, or at least it wasn't enforced if there was any and I have only had a few brief trips to Thailand in the last few years so never really had to adapt. Bit of a last minute thing so i don't have time to apply for any visas before my trip to Thailand.

    Thanks in advance.

BMI is an outdated formula its ok for the average public but not for people who exercise and have some muscle. It should be banned because it really gives a wrong result for healthy active people. For the average non active person its ok.

It works fine for most active healthy people also - but that tends to be for those who concentrate more on cardio workouts rather than building muscles.

  11. Note that the OP's title is: " Nana, a terrible place to live"

Whilst I don't agree with him in it being a terrible place to live, I can understand why some people would in the longterm prefer to live a less seedy part of Sukhumvit or Dusit etc Especially when a girlfriend/wife and children is concerned and entertaining more sheltered family members from back home. I used to live in Pattaya so BKK red light districts feels natural to me, plus I have no children. Can totally understand why people in different situations in life would think similarly to the OP.

  12. The dress sense of farangs in Thailand is a long term gripe of mine. Between the Chang Mai elephant pants/hippie garb, the Pattaya Chang wifebeater and flip flop combo, the thuggish bare chested and football shorts look and the Eastern European socks and sandles combo and I have had enough. It is almost to offensive levels at this point. I give Thais credit in the this department. Despite most having less money to spend on clothing (compared to the average farang) they usually at least show a little style.

Just a guess Soi, but maybe you got your degree 30+ years ago and maybe it is applicable to your chosen/past profession. I think you have misunderstood the term Mickey Mouse. Its a fairly new term in relation to the growing number of degrees that have been created where it has been shown that many of the degrees attained were not used for their relevant field. So if you read my post more carefully you may have noted I used Media production and english lit as two examples. If you had said you said your degree was in engineering and you were a consultant in engineering well that would not be what is regarded as a mickey mouse course. Hope that is a bit more clearer for you but if not google the term Mickey Mouse Degree and educate yourself a bit more.

There are a lot of degrees that are limited in regards to practicality within a working environment, but at least having a degree shows employers that an applicant was able to commit to a long term endeavor and complete it. A decent percentage of people choose to study a subject they enjoy/have an interest in rather than one that will secure a direct career path. Many students also are not sure what career they want to settle down with in the future due mostly to limited life experiences before choosing a subject.
