  1. On Saturday, November 13th 2010, Phang Nga Provincial Tourism Association in Khao Lak is launching Grand Opening of 2010/2011 Tourism Season at Khao Lak Center.

Among many activities, there will be BIKE CHARITY RIDE.

Bikers meeting point is at BAAN KHAO LAK RESORT at no later than 12:00 pm (noon). Refreshments will be given to all ride participants and convoy starts rolling at 1:00 pm.

First stop is at Bangsak Beach to plant some trees to promote awareness against global warming.

At 3:00 pm bikers are scheduled to visit Baan Bangniang School at Khuk-Khak subdistrict. All proceeds from charity will be donated to construction of community library.

Our group is organizing marshalled ride from Phuket to Khao Lak. All types of bikes, sport or cruisers, big or small, are invited to come along. There will be no funny business, convoy marshalls have been instructed to obey speed limits and no riders will be left behind. Destination is barely 120 km's away, great opportunity to meet new friends and enjoy what looks to be nice event.

We also need few more certified Highway Police Volunteers to help us out. Katabeachbum and Scubabuddha, please take a note of this. Two of you did great job in marshalling Ghost Riders MC Anniversary Run .

Meeting point is Thai Naan restaurant parking lot, opposite Central Festival dept store, ride commences at 9:30 am.

We hope to hear your comments.

  3. Oh? I might give them a look then, thanks.

About how long does it take for his to process the green book and plates, do you know?

    Thanks

Generaly about 6-8 months for grey imports. Even reputable dealers such as redbaron.com and 59bike.com can't make it faster. Few of my pals still waiting for papers.

  4. Thanks Gerd.

I called the guy and he said Fortuner is available. Gave his phone number to my friend, 5 minutes later he tells him vehicle is not available after all. His son rented to someone blah blah....great family business coordination.

Friend of my decides to look elsewhere but wait, this Daniel guy calls back 10 minutes later and says he can deliver the fortuner asap. They agree to meet at Chaofah Rd Shell station. 90 minutes later, nobody shows up. My friend calls him but this weasel doesn't want to answer the call! What a coward! Not an ounce of common courtesy or self respect. And yet, <deleted> like him are the loudest critics of the ways Thais conduct business.....go figure.

  5. Hopefully your friend has insurance and they'll cover the damage. Good to hear all parties are OK.

Unfortunately, he has only 3rd party insurance, not comprehensive. Will have to dig into his piggy bank to pay repairs.

  6. On Thursday October 28th friend of my (expatriate) riding Harley Davidson Nightrod was involved in accident at Chaofah Rd, right next to Rolly Tasker factory.

Upon taking off from traffic light at speed of no more than 50 km/h, he colided with small motorcycle ridden by local 45 year old woman. She came out of some small dirt road soi with intention of going accross the lanes. She never knew what hit her, 310 kg nightrod slammed head on into her and she flew accoss the asphalt almost 10 meters and continued to roll down the road.

At the same time, another rider, coming from opposite direction at his BMW had a hard time trying to avoid running over her. However, he skillfully managed to manouver around what initially appeared to be lifeless body.

After few minutes, the woman became conscious and was sent to hospital with what seemed to be severe head injuries. Btw, she didn't wear helmet. Instead, it was placed in shopping basket at front end of the bike.

Police determined my friend was not at fault and he sustained no injuries apart from being very shaken by entire episode. However, damage to his bike is estimated to be around of 130,000 baht and it will take 3 weeks to fix it.

Now, the most interesting thing happened yesterday at Police station.

Husband of lady involved in accident came on her behalf and inspector told him since she was at fault they are required to pay 120,000 baht for bike repair expenses. His face turned pale, hands were shaking, almost started crying. However, my friend generously decided to let him off the hook and cover repair costs from own pocket.

Point of this story: I can't recall when was the last time Phuket Traffic Police asked local (Thai) guilty parties involved in road accidents to pay damages to innocent expats. Even when not at fault, foreigners were asked to pay for hospital and bike repair expenses and what not.

Luckily, my friend called me immediately after the accident and I called few other Thai friends to help gather all reluctant Thai eyewitnesses to confirm his version of accident.

  7. The customer service is terrible. We complained for weeks, went to their office with the router per their request, was told router was broken, they wouldn't give us a new one. Said we had to sign new contract, but we wanted to wait for technician first to come to our location and check the line. They sent a sales rep instead with a new contractlaugh.gif Probably wasted about 6 hours with them total. Technician finally came and plugged in his router and the line was then working. Ok, so give us a new router. Not a chancelaugh.gif Had to go to main office in Central. Central office did not have, go to Phuket town and made new contract and got a new router. All and all about 2 weeks before the issue was resolved.

Strange....I complained about router too and they issued me replacement for 150 baht.

  8. Popped in today and was given my personalized invite! Wow!

Yup, me too, on friday. They send boy from Kawasaki showroom to my house with invitation, very surprised. Invitations have been printed for all those who purchased from them since January 1st.

  9. Indeed! Thais love these kinds of gatherings, as a matter of fact my phone has been ringing for days now, everyone is asking when we gonna do this again!

Some folks even suggested to do the Christmas Run and I am all for it but I wish someone else takes over initiative in organizing this cause I am pretty exhausted running around and making deals with authorities, sponsors, MC's and other ride groups.

If any Phuket based RIDE GROUPS decide to organize similar event, our team and friends will provide full support and help as much as possible to make it success.

    Few more things:

As of now, MCW Phuket is sole distributor of Hero GoPro Motorsport Video cameras for Southern Thailand. You don't need to order these from USA anymore, they come with complete warranty and price is not more than 12,000 baht. Keep in mind these are new advanced models, HD with 32 gig card and improved batteries that can handle up to 8 hours of continuous recording. By the way, Triumph Phuket even managed to sell 2 motorcycle units right there in Royal Marina, in addition to cameras and riding apparel as well.

Also, I need to thank Thai Visa members "Donshe" who flew from Australia just to attend this event and "Smedly" (Honda Blacbird) who came down from Pattaya with his pal (BMW GS) whose name I can't recall right now.

  10. As far as riding in Thailand is concerned I only had a problem with those little scooters cutting me off during city rides and on occasion or two at highways when all of a sudden they decide to cross the lanes without knowing what is coming behind them. Had a few really closed calls. One time Scubabuddha (Thai Visa member) was riding behind me and he saw it, till today I had no idea how did I manage to avoid colision.

There are dicks everywhere, Sport bike or Harley riders. I never had a problem with Thai Harley riders but some of newbie farang Harley owners occasionaly display bad attitudes in order to compensate for lack of riding skills.
