  1. It doesn't take much time with Google to find papers on how unhealthy this stuff is that we are breathing. I took a hard bike ride in the smoke a few years ago and got quite ill which taught me to not exercise when the PM10 levels are up there.

Agreed. Regardless of the long term effects, the short term ones are hard to ignore: burning eyes, headache, inner ear ache, all from two days ago when the levels were hovering around 115. I tried running a few days ago and there's a big impact on lung capacity. Hoping for rain but the weather reports don't sound very promising.

  2. Sahara just across from Warm-Up is super friendly with great food at great prices for the taste and quality. Inside is a/c, and then they have a raised porch in front that's set back from Nimm that you can people (and traffic) watch from. There's also a balcony up top where you can do the same. Chairs are comfortable too.

I've eaten their Thai food, the burgers, and their Middle Eastern food, and it's all good.

We ended up at Sahara it was a decent spot. Drunken Flower is closed due to someone being in the hospital according to the sign out front last night.
  3. Here is a TV thread for a year or so ago.

It seems that folks leave CM to come here (Clao Lao / Lam Sadet Beach) for a few months for fresh air. Looks horrible up there up north sucking n all that crap. :bah:

We normally go to Ko Chang in March but last year and this year we had things going on that kept us in the smoke. It is pretty cruddy up here at the moment.

I'll fill a bottle up with sea air & pm it to you

Make it a large or better yet, super-size it!

Yeah, was just going to say that you guys are having a spike. ;)

You never know what will be next though.. could be double, or could be half..

May I ask what website you got that from?

The link I have here seems to be old news only

Last 3 days have been like sitting behind a tuk tuks exhaust. today was wondering if this is what is like to have emphycemia.

Been pinning my hopes on this meteorologists report claiming from 19th-22nd low pressure from Burma is bringing heavy rain. Its almost the 21st now.....some experts they seem to be.

nothing on accuweather, just a rise in temp towards the weekend.

I suspect the aircon now at night is slowly killing us. should we switch off and just get a fan running?

I tried finding another source for the imminent rain predicton but all the weather websites are showing 0% chance of rain. And re a/c I'd leave it on at night, assuming it helps the general air quality in your room.

  4. Yesterday afternoon near City Hall seemed really bad, but when I check the numbers online it looks like it was only borderline. My assessment was based on very low visibility, headaches, burning eyes. I expected to see numbers around 150+. Published numbers were around 113 unless I'm reading it wrong?

  5. I love Thai massage but for injuries and back pain I prefer a deep tissue massage. In the States I saw a massage therapist who would deal primarily with physical therapy patients. Hoping to find something similar here. Anyone have any suggestions? Esp dealing with neck/back pain. Thanks.

  6. 1.25 caret, b grade stone, round stone (78 cuts), several tines of gold does that describe it. B grade stone is a very good stone. A lot of the newer stones have laser etched serial numbers

You didnt get all 4 distinct features.

    It's mine.

You send it over or you want my mate to come pick it up 5197d1304535343-ronnie-coleman-biografia-7f487a1674.jpg

If you send your mate, I'll send this freak to see you at midnight.

  7. I saw what looked like a new western style restaurant, pretty big, on the east side of the 1001, not far from Mae Jo University. Just got a brief look at it and wonder if anyone knows about it? It looked like it had just opened or maybe is soon to open.

  8. I have been to Dr. Tongnard off the canal road and he's been great. I've had cleanings, and a dental implant put it, and know others who've had fillings etc. They are professional and pleasant. Been to Grace for their pediatric dentist and she was awesome. Would recommend Grace if you've got a kid, and either place for anything else.

  9. Never been there, but close by is a small cafe that serves Burmese food, mostly Shan style noodles and yellow tofu. If you are heading West on Suthep road from the city, you pass Nimmanhemin Rd. on your right, then the last light before you get to Canal Road, you make a left. This is the road that leads to the Airforce base, and the short cut to the Airport. About 50 meters after you turn left, the cafe is on your right. You'll see a small sign in front with Burmese writing. If you're looking for Hmwe and can't find it, you might walk over to this place instead. Good luck and please post if you end up finding Hmwe.

As this place you are describing is in the immediate vicinity of the resto the OP is looking for, I have a sneaking hunch they are one and the same. The small sois leading off the airforce entrance road heading west run right into Tom Payon market.

I thought so too at first, but the google map video looks pretty specific... a few blocks away.

  11. My stepson never had an issue about going to Dentaland. I was in the room for all his visits and the "holding down" story sounds misleading in the extreme - there is either more to it than the poster has told us or they have shares in Grace!

No shares in Grace, just looking for other referrals besides Dentaland.
  12. Any recommendations for trained kid's (pediatric) dentists in Chiang Mai? I've heard of Dentaland but a friend took their kid and won't go back since they relied on holding down the kid. I've heard of Grace and from their website it looks like they have a trained pediatric dentist. Looking for a place geared towards dealing with kids who are anxious about the visits.

  13. Airport. 10 minutes from most places in town.

(Because I'm not at all sure the air would be significantly clearer up there, for the March-type haze. I base this on the readings of the PCD measuring station at the Royal Palace on Doi Pui, which is up pretty high. It shows somewhat lower levels, but still pretty yuck; you'd be healthier indoors with an air filter going.)

Do you have a recommendation for a high quality filter that's available in cm? Best if the replacement parts/service is also local. Thanks.
  14. I should clarify I'm hoping to find the highest elevation that has accommodation--to try and escape the worst of burning season for a week or so. It seems like the seasons lasts longer than a month but the worst of it is the last week or ten days of march if I remember correctly. Mon Cham has some guest houses up by the royal project. Chiang Dao is higher but not sure if any of the rentals are up that high.

  15. Had same problem with one we bought in Phuket ... sold it to our landlord upon departure. I would never buy HW crap again after I took a look inside ... not worth repairing either.

Central KSK have some quality ovens, our mid-range Cuizimate works very well.

Is that similar to the HouseWorth? The one I have is a counter top electric convection oven, big enough to fit a medium size turkey (just barley).
  16. Thanks for all the helpful replies. I got to Don Mueang at 930 and I was at the embassy by 1015--way earlier than expected. Probably about 30 people in line but was out of there by 11am. Agree with SeaView that the line thinned out a lot by 11. Many applicants seemed a bit confused about paperwork etc but everything seemed to be running smoothly and the staff was friendly and polite. Almost missed the pickup time at 430 due to stoopid traffic but it all worked out. Many thanks.
