Yes true. To be honest I think Boris Johnson backed the best idea, which probably came from Dominic Cummings. The idea was, in the event of a leave vote, which wasn't expected, negotiations would take place with the EU. This would be similar to those undertaken earlier by Cameron, but with the extra leverage of the leave vote. I don't know what could have been achieved but that was certainly when we had the strongest hand. I'm guessing the idea Cummings had was to calm the fears of those on the fence, that voting leave was a dangerous, one way leap.

I don't think Thailand has the highest death till in the world, A lot probably depends on how you count deaths. It seems Thailand doesn't count it as a road death iunless it occurs within 24 hours. That may be wrong but I've never had anyone dispute it. Thailand seems to move between 2nd and 5th, at least in the years I was checking. Still Shangri-la and, as you say a lot has to do with the police.

Some do.

He's one of the best performing ministers to be honest. Shows how shallow the talent pool is these days. Sunak isn't doing too bad but he's not got the ability to enthuse people. Plus he's come in at a time when the Torys are unpopular and it's not really possible to turn things round. As for the visas, that sounds good excerpt I've just paid for a 10 year visa for my wife. It'll probably last longer than me.

Question about visa extension

That sounds a good idea. I'm not expecting any problems but it's always good to have a back up plan just in case. -
Question about visa extension
kimamey replied to kimamey's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yes, that's what I've got. I never looked before as I was certain it was single entry. It was only after she mentioned it to me that I remembered getting it. It was certainly single entry before. Things have been a bit complicated around flights which has distracted me a bit. I've had problems paying with my credit card as I don't seem to receive the OTP code. My Lloyd's debit card stopped working as well until I phoned them, and if I tried logging in on their website I couldn't receive the OTP from them either. Oddly Qatar, Airbnb, NHS, my wife here and my bil in the UK don't have a problem. Anyway, sorted now. -
Question about visa extension
kimamey replied to kimamey's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I was going to ask where to get one in the airport but my wife pointed out that I have a multiple entry, which I now remember getting. I might be wrong but I think I got that at the airport. I need to go to immigration anyway. I had to do my 90 day report and did it online. For some reason it was rejected. -
Question about visa extension
kimamey replied to kimamey's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
To be honest if it's serious enough to stop me getting back in time, it's probably more important than my visa. I've booked my flights and I'll be back in Bangkok early on the 27th May which should give me enough time. However long I have there's always the possibility something could go wrong. If it does then I'll have to come up with a plan B. I assume I'd have to leave the country and apply from there. -
Question about visa extension
kimamey replied to kimamey's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Sorry for the delay in replying and thanks for all the help. It's unfortunate timing but that's out of my hands. My wife usually does all the paperwork and isn't coming with me so I'll leave that with her. She works in a government office so she's used to all this stuff and she seems to get on well with those working at immigration. Thanks for the reminder about the re-entry permit. -
Question about visa extension
kimamey replied to kimamey's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
That was something I was looking at. Unfortunately I won't be here 45 days before. -
I'm British and 69, until June, and I'm married. My Non Imm O visa based on marriage runs out on 6th June. I'll be going to the UK on the 8th April and returning on, probably 27th May. My wife is worried, as although Mahasarakham immigration has a shiny new office, visa applications are sent to Khon Kaen and she's concerned that may take it past the end of my visa even if we visit immigration before the 6th June. Does anyone know if the date you apply is the one that has to be before the expiry of the visa?

Well it looks like any other Scoopy i and much as it did in my first picture. However since you've asked I'll try to get a pic with the light on when it gets darker. It's a long time since I've posted pictures on here and these came out a lot bigger than I was expecting. Good if your eyesight's not good though. I'm sorry I didn't post of my success earlier but I didn't think anyone would be interested. It turns out there are more sad people with no life than I'd imagined. I feel a lot less lonely now.

UK Foreign Secretary Cameron elevates trade links in Thailand
kimamey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
My earlier suggestion of sending Boris wouldn't work then. I'm not sure diplomacy is his thing. -
Thank you for your valued support. I have now achieved my goal and I'm just wondering why I've not heard from the Thai media asking to interview me. Maybe I should have punched the guy I bought the bulb from. 😁

They should have sent Boris. That would have avoided any suspicion of work. -

It's amazing that he looks like the grown up in the Torys now. Sunak isn't bad and I wish he was better as he's from my home city but he's not really much of a politician, plus he's arrived at the wrong time. I wish Cameron luck but I think he was equally enthusiastic about China when he was PM. As for green investment, didn't he want to get rid of all the green crap? -
I managed to find a Thai manual for our Scoopy which it turns out we bought in March 2011. It's hard work reading it using Google translate on my phone but I eventually found the right page with diagrams. I'm sure there must be English versions as according to Wikipedia it's sold as the Metropolitan in the United States, the Jazz in Canada, the Scoopy in Australia and Asia, and the Crea Scoopy in Japan. The Jazz name in Canada is confusing. The name seems to have been used for bikes, cars and SUVs at various times and places. Anyway I managed to remove the front panel and the bulb is just a case of taking off the rubber cover, pushing down on the back of the bulb and turning anti/counter clockwise. All I need to do now is get a new bulb and fit the front panel back. That may be a bit more difficult based on experience. As well as the screws I showed in the pictures there's a screw on either side which goes through the front of the floor panel. I'll include a picture of that. The 2 large screws either side of the horn, which are shown holding the licence plate in the video posted here have to be removed. I was told years ago that you could get a basket, like that on the Wave, for the Scoopy. I'm guessing that might use those 2 screws.

I should clarify. I replaced the inlet valve on the toilet because it was leaking, not just because I had the tools to do it. I'm not that sad quite yet
-
Yes I could. Quite often I do with jobs here as I don't have the tools I had in the UK and buying them here would cost more than getting someone else to do it. I just thought I could do it myself as I have the time. Last weekend I replaced the inlet valve on one of the toilets, because I had the tools to do that.
-
Yes I've seen that one. It's so easy she doesn't actually do it. Hers is a later model as well by the looks of it. It does have the same 2 screws either side of the horn. The only reason I didn't take them out is they seemed a bit too big to just hold the front panel but maybe I'll try loosening them. I'd forgotten that her licence plate was attached there which of course we don't use here. I've just loosened them but it doesn't seem to make a difference. It might be that it's just tight but I don't want to waste energy trying to move if there are other screws that are still holding it.

Brothel bust: Thai asylum seeker facing seven years behind bars in UK
kimamey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes, I'd forgotten about her. And I believe she had quite close connections with the government as well. 😉 I don't know how they pay tax but it's probably just down to using the correct job description. -
Brothel bust: Thai asylum seeker facing seven years behind bars in UK
kimamey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes but that's down to the delays dealing with their claims which a government minister thought was a good deterrent apparently. Well if about 70% are given asylum or some other permission to stay then that's only 30 percent who will, or should be removed. There has been a reduction of removals in recent years although the reason isn't clear. It might be down to better procedures on entry stopping people coming in, or it might be down to the normal Tory obsession for reducing funding in real terms. It's certainly the case that they are unable to keep the numbers down, although to be fair, as I said people coming over on small boats are easier to see than those hiding in lorries so part of the increase may be down to that. I don't think the numbers arriving in small boats is that large within the numbers of other legal and illegal immigrants. Not that you'd guess that from the right wing press. I think the OBR report before the budget based some of its growth on immigration. As for being a soft touch I think you'll find asylum seekers can work in France but almost never in the UK
