Regardless of where you go or when there are always risks and given the vaccinations, negative pre flight tests and avoiding risky situations as much as possible the chances of this happening must be low. One of them could just as easily have caught something else other than covid. A bad bout of flu wouldn't need quarantine but it child run s holiday.

Globally we are entering a very fragile state: is Asia ready?
kimamey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
If you take Iraq as an example it had used chemical weapons and committed human rights abuses over many years although those had been ignored for some time. In Afghanistan girls and women gained significant rights after the Taliban were removed but then they were abandoned. Ok may well be a significant issue in some cases but its quite difficult to live without it. The anti war demos we saw over Iraq, Afghanistan ect probably couldn't have happened without it. These things are never clear cut but I don't think we should just allow the killing, torturing, rape etc of innocent men, women and children because of something the West did that we don't agree with 20, 30, 50, 100, 200 years ago. -
Good luck One other point. A woman my wife worked with needed to borrow some money. It was because of some problem with illegal lottery. I don't understand it or what the problem was but we lent the money and she paid it back. She lives with a lawyer although that may have been later and I'm not sure if she still does the illegal lottery. My wife told me her relative "runs illegal lottery. Lives with policeman". I don't know if I was supposed to make a connection there or not but I have noticed a BMW outside the house.

Shabu shop hits back with defamation threat against complaining customer

I don't know the full details of this but I think it's fairly common in places like this to fine if you take a lot of food you don't eat. I think Hot Pot do it. -
Thai-China Submarine Deal Runs Aground on EU Arms Embargo

No that's far too small to be seen until close up. The huge Thai flag fluttering from the top may give it away though. -

Thai Police warn of unacceptable pranks and jokes on April Fool’s Day
kimamey replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I think the deadline is midnight 31 March next year. To be fair I think it might be more of an issue in countries where official statements tend to be more ridiculous than April Fool jokes. Thailand might have a problem there. -
I'm a bit busy today, would tomorrow be ok? ???? More seriously we bought gas about a week ago and I think it was more than that. It's not an issue for us but it will probably hit those on low incomes and those who use it in their business.

Yes it's a small one but a step none the less. Let's hope it's not followed by 2 steps back. My wife and I did need to contact the police in Mahasarakham a few years back regarding a lost tablet and I was surprised to find them extremely helpful. I doubt they are all corrupt but I would image it could be a pretty lonely existence in some areas. I remember someone on here saying the police weren't set up to stop crime but to bring it under state control. I'll leave others to decide how true that is. My step daughter has started going out with a policeman in Bangkok. I asked my wife if that was something we should worry about and she seemed more concerned than me. He's from Isaan and we haven't met him yet. From what we can tell from others he seems OK so we're hoping he's one of the good ones.

As I'm going to Udon next week to stay in the Centara Hotel for my wedding anniversary I was a bit concerned by the title of your post. Fortunately although I wouldn't mind a beer I can cope with that so it will be something else that will annoy me.

I've no idea of the government's thinking but elsewhere there's been problems when people get drunk and get lax with precautions. In that case it's easier to say no alcohol rather than trying to guess how much someone should have so it's not about your one beer. Having said that I'm not sure this is needed anyway and I'd love to know the reasoning especially as I would expect the drinks companies would be pushing against an alcohol ban and they are usually pretty influential. I've seen alcohol being served in restaurants so obviously not everyone is abiding by the rules

I'm not really sure about our village but there seem to be quite a few people catching it although so far not with serious consequences. There have been a few where my wife works and her sister had it in Bangkok and there have been others. To be honest I don't know how anyone is catching it with all the precautions. Thais are much better at wearing masks than they were before I left in September 2020. There doesn't seem to be a much of the under the chin or hanging off one ear as there used to be and I could swim in the amount of hand sanitiser I've used.

Thai Airlines Urged to Conduct Inspection of Boeing 737-800
kimamey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
They won't all be back flying in one go so o it shouldn't be that difficult to gary then back in order and the would be routine maintenence as well. A bigger problem is probably the pilots as many won't have flown for a while and you can't just check them over from a maintenance manual. -

Bound to crash then. You can't glide forever. ???? -
I agree with most of what you say although I'm not sure of the vaccination rates in our village. I think the local temple promotes it so that should encourage those who hang around temples and monks. Mind you that tends to be more often women in my experience Where I would disagree is with the idea of allowing people to choose if they don't want a vaccine. The way vaccines work is that most people can have them but there are a small number who can't for various medical reasons. To protect them a high rate of vaccination is needed to reduce the chances of infection.

Well one difference is you can wear a mask whilst doing all of these except drinking although a small hole and a straw might overcome that. The other problem is that whilst moderate drinking is fine many drink to excess and then get a bit careless about precautions and aggressive when it's pointed out. There are huge numbers of people who think they can handle their drink and wish to prove it but do the opposite. I don't suppose any of this will stop people getting drunk and then driving, including many police officers, government officials and ministers and rich well connected people.

SCB Intel Center Says Thailand Currently in Stagflation

before recovering slightly to 32.5-33.5 in late 2022 due to the promising recovery of the tourism industry. Is that true? -
That is part of the problem and I think there was a survey a few years that found that a lot of Thais are OK with corruption so long as they benefit from it. I don't know how accurate that is. Not all Thais are like that though. My wife certainly isn't and that goes for her family and many friends of hers.

I must admit having to wait overnight seemed a bit longer than others have mentioned particularly as it wasn't a cheap hotel. It's possible I could have paid extra for a quicker result but there wasn't much point for me. I'd initially intended to go straight home to Mahasarakham via a flight to Khon Kaen but as it turned out we needed to go to wedding in Chanthaburi on the 11th and my wife couldn't get a flight to Bangkok until the evening of the 10th so speed wasn't a problem.

Festival Goers Asked to Refrain from Splashing Water during Songkran
kimamey replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
What a brilliant idea. Bound to work. They could follow it up with. Thai motorcyclists asked to refrain from riding without a helmet. Thai drivers asked to refrain from driving without a seat belt and while drunk. The possibilities are endless. -
It's probably the last 2 and a desire to look strong and important. A wish to resurrect the Soviet Union at least in terms of land. Possibly a feeling by Putin that he's losing popularity. He's already resorting to manipulating elections and jailing anyone who opposes him. Hopefully someone close will stop him. I have heard rumours that there are some particularly in the security and intelligence services who are becoming frustrated with him. A lot of them had good lives in Russia and were able to holiday and educate their children in western countries. Their patience may not last long.
