  1. One Life This looks good. Tony Hopkins is always worth a look. The story of Sir Nicholas 'Nicky' Winton, a young London broker who, in the months leading up to World War II, rescued over 600 children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia.
  2. This has been discussed several times with you before. I take it your situation would be in the minority so good for you. Not everyone would be entitled to those benefits. I'd suggest for the majority of people who have to return for their 2 years, it would be quite difficult. If I return I'll be lucky enough to be able to live free. Most people won't. Even taking into account the huge rents, most will have to leave their family behind. It shouldn't factor where you're living either. Some people can claim it from other countries and some can't depending on where you live. This is just plain wrong IMO. So yes, for many it will be like a "jail sentence or detention", that is the reality.
  3. The issue of residency and non-residency for me come under the purview of the ATO.
  4. Well, going on current legislation some might be residents. The vast majority wouldn't be technically I guess. But at this point in time, they're still able to claim they are residents through the self assessment system. Even if the non-residence rules that KH talks about are bought in, it's yet to be established if you will still be able to claim residency as per self assessment or not. KH seems to think Centrelink will enforce it whilst I still think it comes under the ATO umbrella.
  5. Aren't they talking about non-residents though? Are you assuming people living in Thailand will be classified as non-residents now?
  6. I do find it mildly amusing that you think posters are trolling, yet there's been 2 posts already removed by the Mods for trolling on the new thread. Guess who they're from
  7. I'd think any tax on interest would be due to the ATO.
  8. Perhaps as has been suggested previously, if the majority block or just don't reply to his posts, he might run out of steam.
  9. As previously advised, I've created this new thread for issues involving being taxed in Thailand and or Australia, both resident and non-resident rates. Pretty much anything to do with what rates you can or could be taxed at. The Australian Aged Pension thread can be used for a host of other queries and issues. If posters apart from KH, don't agree with this, you can let me know and I'll ask for it to be closed or you can just keep using the other thread that KH has pretty much ruined.
  10. I've already said why I think this should be a separate topic and your post just reinforces it. You could've said yes or no and the reason why in a sentence or two. But no, you post another Tolstoy length reply rehashing all of the stuff you've posted before. If someone wants to go through posts looking for portability for example, they have to wade through hundreds of irrelevant posts for their answer. So with a new post just for taxation issues, either here or in Thailand, they can use this post for other questions and the taxation thread for all of the taxation issues which I'm sure you will keep us abreast of. BTW, Lacessit's thread was asking about tax status only.
  11. I was going to suggest this yesterday. Questions and answers about the OAP like portability, eligibility etc, will get lost in this thread. Can have a new thread called something like "The OAP and Taxation Issues, Ramifications. What do others think?
  12. The New Look Set against the World War II Nazi occupation of Paris, “The New Look” focuses on the pivotal moment in the 20th century when the French city led the world back to life through its fashion icon Christian Dior. As Dior rises to prominence with his groundbreaking, iconic imprint of beauty and influence, Chanel’s reign as the world’s most famous fashion designer is put into jeopardy. The interwoven saga follows the surprising stories of Dior’s contemporaries and rivals from Chanel to Pierre Balmain, Cristóbal Balenciaga and more; and, provides a stunning view into the atelier, designs and clothing created by Christian Dior through collaboration with the House of Dior.
  13. Come on people. We're discussing a Jason Statham action movie and people are talking plots and acting. It's just a bit of escapism for 90 minutes.
  14. The Space Shuttle That Fell to Earth Whole series out now. In 2003, Space Shuttle Columbia breaks apart in the skies above America. The astronauts’ families and Nasa staff share personal stories of the launch, unfolding disaster and fallout. As Nasa prepares Space Shuttle Columbia for its 28th mission, excitement and trepidation build amongst the astronauts and their families as they count down to launch. This programme hears from the seven astronauts - a mixture of veterans and rookies - and their families as they train for an awe-inspiring journey of a lifetime.
  15. How and why did you lose your superannuation?
  16. If you're talking about episode 2, I don't really think the cops did much wrong at all TBH.
  17. Maybe it's dated, but one of the best shows ever made. The 9.3 is warranted IMO.
  18. If they do bring in the proposed changes, there's nothing to stop the government saying it won't be applied to the OAP. That wouldn't cost them much in the scheme of things and won't get negative publicity about hurting pensioners.
  19. I don't think it will happen now or in the near future. And my head isn't in the sand.
  20. Some will just ignore it and continue on as usual and hope to fly under the radar I imagine.
  21. I've debated this with KH on numerous occasions. If it does get passed, I'm of the opinion it will still be up to the ATO to collect tax so a lot of expats I imagine will just take their chances and don't lodge returns or keep ticking that they're residents. HK is of the opinion that the non-resident tax will !00% be taken from the pension by Centrelink before it's allocated. I don't agree with that at all but I'm not going to go around in circles with him over it again.
  22. That is quite the decrease if it happens. Especially for people who have commitments. It will also drop below 40 000 Baht per month for those who use it as a monthly income for a marriage extension. I also imagine a lot of expats will have partners. Some people will have no option but to make it work if they want to live here. I'm still of the opinion it won't get passed.
  23. Are your sums correct or have I got them wrong? If you lose $120 per week, that's a lot more than 4385 Baht a month.
