  1. Do Harley riders get hassled by the police for having loud pipes the way the rest of us do if we fit an aftermarket exhaust? or is it someone expected/allowed that they will be loud?

No we don't because most policemen loves them, one saluted me once.

On a trip with HOG (8 HD's) up in North East, a policeman stopped the traffic on the crossing (green light) so the whole convoy could pass (130 pr hour) he-he, and he was smiling too. :D

Have heard about a few who got fined though :)

  2. The topic starter obviously hates Harley's together with many others on this forum :) Everybody have the right to have an opinion off course, so here is mine:

On my Road King my wife & I can ride all day long very comfortable without any pain when we reach our destination, cruising at app. 100-140 clicks pr hour. One reason why I don't ride a black bird or bimmer is that on Thai roads you really don't want to go that fast, these bike belong on the German autobahn where you can go +200 all day if you like.

Another reason: a Harley got soul which your bamboo rocket don't have. You don't understand what this mean of course, but HOG (Harley owner group) have over 1 mill members worldwide which kind of speak for it self. :D

Yes you are right regarding the sound, some are too noisy, mine is deep rumple enough to set off car alarms occasionally, buy not ear defeating, but people can hear me coming, making it safer for everybody.

Ride safe on your very fast "bird" :D

  3. I ran into a big pack of the "Mad Dogs" at my local watering hole in Ban Chang last week. They had members there for an annual get-together of all their Asian Chapters (Vietnam, China, Singapore, etc.). Overall, they seemed like a decent group of guys who enjoyed big bikes and hanging out with their friends. Don't paint them all with the same brush just because this one fellow may be a criminal...

    Agreed.

I ride Harley as well and know a lot of fellow farang HD riders in Pattaya and other places. Yes we dress up a bit (HD life style), but 99.9% are very decent people who can afford to buy a Harley and enjoy it here in LOS. :)

  4. I pay for my daughters Bi-lingual school direct via bank transfer(divorced like you) and thereby avoiding paying to the ex as the money would "disapear" and spend on something else.

I pay app. 10K pr month for my daughters school in Phuket and would think that it is slightly cheaper here in Pattaya.

  5. A good Nanny is hard to come by. Know two Thai/expat couples in LOS that having a hard time finding/keeping them. Best thing to do if your wife is Thai to get a famlie member of hers to work as nanny (if posilbe). Another option is to find one from her village which we proberly will do later when the nanny room in our new house is sorted.

One of the above couple was luckly and found a nice lady in her 40'ties close to their house, so she comes in the morning and leaves late afternoon.

Sorry about the spelling but my spell check is not working as the bottom toolbar shows downloading?? due the the "breaking" news popping up :)

  6. Hi

I am looking for a push cart for my 7 weeks old son.

I saw them in the big shopping outlets like Big C-Carrefour and so on, but wasn't too impressed with quality/price.

I been driving/goggling around to find a large shop who specialize in baby outfitting and typical (for me) can't find one when needed.

    Thanks

  7. Friendly advice from an oldish man who's had 4 crashes, 2 surgeries and 2 strokes in Thailand: don''t ride unless you're in perfect health, and don't buy used.

Why not, during my time here I bought 2 Waves second hand and never had a problem, as many already know the Wave is a very solid bike.

My Harley is second hand too but that is a completely different story (no problems), but that is more like a life style you are buying. Not good for city traffic and an expensive bike to keep because you just want to change this and then that and it never stops, he-he :D , but never mind I love that bike and only live once. :)

  8. Some says rent, well it depends of your family status and age. For me (47 year old) it is far better to own than rent, I have a infant son and my wife want another kid. So for us a relative big 2 story house is appropriate which will cost app. 35-40k to rent in a good location (NO thanks).

As one mention, you can rebuild the house/garden for infinity just as you please when you own.

Ownership is very tricky in LOS, but never heard about anybody who got shafted, if just the Thais would ease off a little bit and let foreigners buy up to 1 rai of land, many people would be happy, but that have been discussed many times before and will properly never happen.

  9. In my house near BKK/Pat hospital TOT is very slow, I got a 2mb package and sometimes it is down to below 100kb. :)

Does anybody living near the above mention location tried something else? I am considering 3BB (tt&t) but heard that in case of a problem you are in for a long wait.

TOT normally shows up next day in case of a problem, happened once during app. 3 years subscription.

    Thanks

  10. Yes agree with other posts, rent first and get a fell for the surroundings and then make your decision.

I just sold my house and made a marginal profit due to bad times/over supply on the market (company owner ship). My house will cost app. 30 k pr month to rent, so I saved roughly 1 mill on rent during 3 years ownership.

My next house/land will be bought in my wife's name and I will then lease it from her for 30 years.

Regarding safety, we have an alarm system in the house and will have one installed in the next house as well and never had a problem.

Check Baan Chalita very close to Bangkok/Pattaya hospital, excellent location and you don't have to cross the dangerous Sukhumvit road when going down town for fun :)

  11. A Thai drivers licence might get you in on Thai price, I was once successful in Phuket Zoo & Nongnuch Garden because of the Thai divers licences.

Somebody here in Patttaya gone to other places to Thai prices due to local licence?

  12. As a Pattaya expat, I never bother going to walking street when out drinking with my (expat) friends. Sometimes the wife insists going, just to look at people so we go and have one drink only and not too late.

There are many options here for good food, friendly bars (with or without girls), walking street is in mine opinion for tourists.

  13. So 4 monks out of 34 (11%) of the population of one monastery in Pattaya means that "drugs are out of control". Are you taking the hyperbole module of your English Lit course at the moment?

Could you please clarify what you mean by hyperbole? I am very sorry that I am not a native English speaker/writer but I still have the right to join this forum :)

If even the monks (11%) are taking drugs then it is looking bad, they are supposed to be "clean" in all regards.

Yes drugs are completely out of control, the Thais I spoken to during the week have all been complaining about it (doctor, lawyer & a bar girl)

Which thais have you been talking to? It seems from your post that you've spoken to a doctor, a lawyer and a bar girl. Are you claiming that these 3 people represent the whole of Thailand?

No but very good for Pattaya where I live :D , but honestly I still mean what I wrote.

You never answered my question, hyperbole??

  15. Just read on Pattaya One News that 4 monks out of 34 tested was positive for drugs and kicked out of the temple and handed over to the police.

Drug use in Thailand is slowly but surly destroying the country, murder, petty crime and gang war. I think the recently raped British woman was raped by a couple of drug users/losers.

Why don't the government do more about it? Much have been said about Mr Thaksin but at least he did something about it.

Why does people have to be "high" to enjoy life?

  16. I just wish that Enfield were selling their bikes in Thailand.

That's why I am trolling this area today...wondering if i can get parts for my enfields (350 bullet, 500 classic) in tland...but if they don't sell them there, not much hope eh? ps.those tigers just look awful, but have never ridden one so best to hold judgment.

btw, do they sell the sidecar separate? wonder how much t would cost to import one to nepal, and if i could attach to 350 bullet... i need one for my German Shepard:)

I think that I read somewhere (BKK Post maybe) that Enfield will start a factory here in Thailand.

Yes I am pretty sure you can buy the sidecar separate.
