  1. Okay thanks for that Neverdie & Kadafi, very good info which is helpful for me. I did notice a lot of customers at 3BB at carrefour and they didn't look like they where signing up but more like "sorting out problems" :) . Well this is Thailand so I guess this is part of living here, be patient and keep your cool, which can be hard sometimes, he-he, so one service provider is proberly no better than the other one.

I will check Sophon and see if they service my area.

  2. The 3 last posts mention buy new. Sure if you have the money go ahead but keep in mind the change for close contact with bikes/cars in cities are fairly high compared to EU, so small scratches/dents can easily happen.

I "saved" 200k on a 2006 car compared to a new (Honda City top model), the car I bought had some extras mounted which I appreciate, and maybe cost app. 25k, and so far I am very happy with it.

Yes I agree that the second market is a "jungle" where only the wise survive, so be extremely careful when buying a used car/truck. I took my car to a Honda dealer ship before buying to make sure everything was okay and no hidden surprises, but the car was "clean" :)

Keep in mind that if you are only driving app. 10-15 k km pr year as me, I really can't see the reason to buy a new car.

  3. Hi everybody

I recently started a topic called internet gone(still is).

Today I visited the TOT office Pattaya 3rd road and explained my problem with my missing internet connection. They checked in their system and said everything is okay. They then gave me a technicians service no. I tried to get though (English) but gave up after 3 calls. My wife then called (Thai) and got though and was provided two new phone No's. One no. didn't pick up and the person on the 2nd no. told her to call the tech.service no!! :D My wife then explained that she was given this no from the Tech. service, they then agreed to pay my house a visit maybe tomorrow and hung up!! :)

They are clearly overworked and I have heard rumours about people paying money under the table in order to get speedy processing. Most of the time the speed is very bad too, so I visited the newly formed 3BB(TT&T before) internet service provider in Carrefour, and asked if they service the area I am living in and the answer was yes.

Does anybody on this forum have experience with this internet provides and if yes does it offer better service/speed than TOT??. PS we are talking about Pattaya area here.

I think TOT and 3BB are my only options here in my moo baan house.

  4. Alan 1275,

This Sierra wireless 885 aircard you are talking about is that via your mobile phone? I assume so, my wireless is very slow, and the problem is that my mobile phone battery drains very fast when I use it as WL for my laptop.

I will go to TOT tomorrow as my land line/modem is still dead, but it might be a long wait to get them out to my house, proberly better to find a TOT service truck and offer a "gift" if they fix my line immediately, he-he.

  5. Hi everybody,

I been looking for answers for my problem on this forum but no luck and are now running on a very slow mobile internet conn. so I gave up searching

My Internet connection in my house here in Pattaya have been gone since Thursday, and I have TOT incl a modem from them (speedtouch 536).

    I have tried the following:

Tested my laptop on the modem, no conn. Normally I use a desk top. Laptop is XP, desktop is Win 7 both original copies not pirate(s)

Tested with a telephone on the conn and called my no and the phone is ringing.

I noticed the green indicator light on the right on the modem is not lit (Internet) and it should be lit.

The cables from modem to pc(s) are different, one for the desktop and I use another for the laptop.

I am as you proberly already have guessed yourself no expert :) , but I can conclude that either my modem is faulty or maybe something is wrong with the "supply" from TOT.

I am looking forward to some advise from you guys.

    Thanks

    guzzi

  6. I was trying to get into the sidecar on the Retro show bike at Big C toady. I am too big/long my knees sticking up forward. Maybe if I tried harder I could get them in, he-he, but I didn't want to force myself in (and maybe get completely stuck :D ). My wife can sit in the side car and stretch her legs completely out and she is what I will call a medium sized Thai lady. She was so impressed with the thing that we agreed we will buy one when I come back from work overseas end Feb. month, I can hardly wait. :)

  7. Nice looking Wave. Well as you and others says, its make you happy and that is the main thing and its your money too. :)

Have you considered buying something bigger? Your Wave looks like racing trim, so CBR 150, Kawa 250 or the new Tiger TT falls into mind, all nippy little racing bikes, well I haven't tried any of them, am not into them anymore, I am taking it easy nowadays. :D

The cbr 150 seems to be very popular just look at the topics on them here in thaivisa, must be one of the biggest views/replies in the whole forum.

  8. Guzzi. The Tiger Retro sidecar will be on display at Tigers exhibit at the DragonsMc/Thaivisa bike week 21st-22nd November in Kanchanaburi if you can make it down.

The event is to raise funds for the kids at Moo ban dek an Orphanage in Kanchanaburi.

    Allan

Thanks but I saw "the rig" at Big C North Pattaya already but due to a 3.5 weeks old son, I was quite busy buying diapers (he-he).

I will go again ASP to have a closer look and see if I can get into the side car myself, if they will let me (not that I plan to sit there during riding, but visiting friends might). I am about 1.86 cm high so not too sure about that. :)

  9. Don't get a fino, they are the biggest pile of rubbish I have ever driven, I have a honda click and it is 100 times better than the fino.

What a bunch of bullshit to say. We bought a Fino earlier this year and its a very good running/handling little bike. I once did 110 on it and it was stable enoufh. The Fino looks much better than a Click just ask any Thai lady.

But again as discussed on earlier topics regarding this matter, different people different bikes.

If you have 2-3 models you like, RENT each for one week and then make up your mind, that's the best way to choose.

  10. Instruments for big bikes are expensive but 15k is a lot money. If I was you I would try to source second hand instruments, first try call Bangkok bike shops and then try Ebay and maybe also try contacts in your home country which ever that is. It must be possible to find somewhere as this is a Suzuki racing bike right? and some of them have been trashed early in their life but quite a lot were produced (I think).

  11. Yes thanks tsbc.

I have seen a couple of Retros here in Pattaya the last couple of days, young Thais driving them. The sound from them is quite sweet, "put-put" like the original Cups, he-he.

I quite fancy one with side car, good for shopping if not too much traffic and can bring the wife and infant son along. If nothing else one can always drive to the village pool in it and bring some of the neighbors kids along.

My wife says I am crazy: you got a Harley and a Fino already, why do you want one??? :) hel_l why not, a man (boy) needs his toys :D

Well I will wait a bit and see whats the general opinion of the bike is before I buy one, but I must admit that I am "hooked" :D

  12. Hi there,

The Tiger Retro with sidecar is finally available & can be ordered now(delivery time is 3 weeks)..the price is 49300 thb :) there are also some accessories for the retro 110 C available , more is still come , will keep you posted. Have a first look,or order it,here

    happy trails,

    mbox

I saw the Retro for the first time yesterday i Big C and without a closer look I was a bit impressed. I been trying two app. 30 year old Cup's 70 in Pattaya as I would like to have one for short shopping trips. Both bikes was running like shi!, price app. 17-20 k bath so I backed off as I want a good running bike and don't have time and energi to get one 100% sorted out (if possible) and will proberly have to pay top $ too.

Has anybody here on the forum purchased a Tiger Retro? If yes, what is the verdict?

  13. I recently bought a 2006 Honda City from a second hand car dealer here in Pattaya. I asked the sales man if we could take the car to Honda for check before buying the car and he said no problem. At Honda they confirmed that the car was to a 30k km check on a certain date which made me believe that the odometer had NOT been tampered with. If you check other topics in motor forum you can see that tampering with the odometer seems to be very normal in LOS, sadly.

So if you buy a fairly new car/truck have it checked by a autoitized (can't spell that, sorry) dealer before buying.

You can also bring a friend who knows his way around cars a let him try/check the car.

So far I am very happy with my car and I saved app. 200k compared to a new. I am only driving app. 10-15k km pr year so it would be madness in my case to buy a new.

    Good luck finding a good car/truck :)

  14. There's a dealer in Pattaya, on Sukhumvit just past the turn to Klang as you're heading towards South Rd.

Yes many very high end cars there, Ferrari's, Aston's Lambos and the list goes on.

One time I was standing outside and making nose printing on their windows, one farang (in shorts/flop-flops) enter the shop to have a look around. He managed app. 30 sec. before an Italian looking fat guy in a suit starts shouting at at him (owner/manager?) all the way to the door, he-he. So I get the impression that unless you come to make business there better stay outside :D .

Anybody on the forum been inside the shop??

Off topic sorry but curious :)

  15. Hmm good question, but if we say that you pay app. 3000 in rent pr month for a good auto you will end up having paid 18k after 6 month. That is almost 1/2 price of one of the cheap Thai bikes on the market!

If you don't mind riding a bike like a Honda Wave (work horse of TL), you could buy a fair Wave for around 15-20k and sell it after 6 month with max 5k loss. The Wave is a VERY solid little bike, I previously owned 3 of them but have a Yamaha Fino now. I will not recommend you to buy an "old" full auto bike as they are more vulnerable to misuse as the Waves are.

If I was you I would spend 3-5 days to go around town and check out the places where they sell used bikes and compare prices and maybe do a test ride too. If you have checked say 5 shops you will have an idea how much they cost. Never buy from the first shop you go to as them might have added 2-3k on the price because you don't know the prices and are a farang, he-he.

Don't worry too much about selling, put it on the market after 5 month so you have 1 month to sell it.

Good hunting and enjoy the beautiful CM. :)

  16. I can't wait to get Win 7, I bought Vista after Microsoft "discovered" my pirate XP earlier this year :) .

Vista is the worst piece of crap/shi% I ever owned, countless problems since it was installed :D . Must be one of the biggest flops ever from Microsoft :D .

I was quoted 4400 bath for 7 home premium (forgot to ask Eng/Thai version, will ask tomm).

It's interesting. While I agree that Vista was a relative flop for MS, I haven't had a smidgen of a problem with Vista.

Just curious...how much of the software on your computer is illegal? Could it be a you get what you pay for situation?

Nothing is illegal on my PC anymore after the good working XP was "discovered" and they started to "shut" my system down :D .

I was quoted 3990 bath today for a 64 bit Win 7 home premium (legal), IT city South Pattaya road, which I will get installed hopefully before the end of this week together with a upgrade of my PC, so I should have a good working system next week (can hardly wait).

  18. Don't think rental bike comes with full insurance. What kind of bike do your oversea friends want to rent? Thai bikes or large bikes?

I think the best to do in your situation is to go visit shops that rent bikes out and ask. If they want to rent big bikes, ask owner id possible to make a full insurance for the duration of the rent period (that will cost extra of course).

Unless your friends are experienced riders don't ride bikes here, I seen many foreigners here in Pattaya rent large 1000cc sports bikes and just one look at them tell me that they are not in control of the bike (signal light constant on, flop-flops, bare over body etc). Don't know why they do it, most are young men from India or some Arab country, guess they want to show their friends at home that they are a real cool dude. Properly over 97% (a guess only) are getting away with it, but the rest is either ending up at the hospital or in a body bag. If you get stopped by the police on ANY size bike without a licence, you pay a 200 bath fine and off you go again!! There should be a rule that said: +150cc you are not riding anywhere without a licence. But okay this is Thailand, so I know I am only dreaming, he-he. Just see how many Thais are killed every year on bikes. I don't know how the authorities in Vietnam managed to teach people to drive so slowly but they did, maybe something to do with politics/democratic.

All that said, I drive every day here in Thailand on either my HD or my Fino and I love it (expect when it rains, :D ). I had some close calls but I also had that in Europe and Australia, so stay alert and try to read the traffic all around you. :)

Well I am a bit off topic, sorry got carried away.

  19. just checked, i will be importing a pug 406 coupe on a 406 COUPE 3.0L with a few miles on the clock, the V5 states its a pug but it looks a ferrai

    thanks

    boater

So boater how much will that cost you all in all?

Still don't understand why you do it, you either own a Ferrari or you don't and with a 3L Peugeot engine you will get smoked by the fast Bimmers.

Why not buy the Toyota that looks a bit like a Ferrari and have the engine to match or is it too expensive?
