  1. I've recently moved back to the UK and I'm changing the Thai plugs to UK three pin plugs. The wires in the thai appliances seem to have one grey wire and a black wire. Normally in the UK the black wire is the neutral wire.

Is this the case in Thailand too? I know that colours can vary from country to country... could someone confirm?

    Thanks :o

    Confused :o

  3. Its funny how usernames cause people to assume. The fact is I'm not so young and I've probably been in Thailand for longer than most of you.

And you *still* don't know better than to be an ugly little forum troll who finds threads he has nothing to say on, and posts comments that are worthless and pointless, in order to give his pathetic little life some meaning?

    Wow.

  4. I think that is a very unfair comment regarding Thailand. Remember that most of us are visitors here, and we always have the option of returning to our own country if we don't like what's on offer here.

    :o:D

Youngkiwi must be either a ) very young, b ) very new in thailand or c ) both of those. It's almost "cute" or "sweet".

  5. Hey...

    Did I miss a newsflash?

As of today, UBC no longer carry VH1 or MTV Thailand... one of the major TV providers has dumped it's own country specific MTV?

    The story was posted here.

Cheers for that. Doing a search on the forum for MTV didn't bring that up for it.

Sure does feel like yet more xenophobia, as said over there. Not really bothered about MTV, but VH1 was always good background sounds.

Thank you. Next time I want your opinion on something other than my question, I will give it to you.

It's not that I can't live without them, it just seems like a really strange choice of channels to get rid of, to "make way" for the godawful games channel (and christ, I am a gamer, and I say that) and that new music channel.

I suppose it makes sense, though, in keeping with Thailand's current one-stupid-idea / month.

  8. BTW, the "airport limos" we've all heard about? their desks are right by where you get into the arrivals area from customs. Out of interest, I asked price - it took them *10 mins* to figure it out, I kid you not. And then they wanted 900B to Asoke.

Ha, I just laughed at them and got a cab.

  9. It is not 100B + Metre.

I landed at the new airport on monday morning. I got a taxi from outside the arrivals hall. The airport surcharge is 50B (same as DM), then you pay Metre on top of that. I came to Asoke area, which is an additional 25B for the tollway.

So, base charge is 50 + metre, from outside arrivals.

  10. I landed from penang on Monday morning - it's a nice airport, in a 1993 architecture way. If you know london, it feels like the Jubilee line. Security was either light or very well hidden. Passport control was being monitored so the staff were pretending to be extra vigilant, inspecting visas from countrys they didn't recognise and so on. I was even "asked" "you have been to China". I just said yes. I mean, so what?

Also, there was no signs of any finished shops. I hope they manage it for the 28th.

One other thing: I had read that there were no taxis at the aiport and that you had to take a shuttle bus 3km to find them... well, it's not the case. There's loads of them right outside the arrivals area, cost to Sukhumvit very similar to the cost from DM.

Nice not to arrive in grotty old DM though.

  11. Thanks all.

To tjo o tjim, I shouldn't have to go any alternative route, as the installation is identical to what it was, prior to this problem. The only difference is the reinstallation of the modem drivers (which is from the 1.5 year old CD I got originally).

To stumonster, it's standard cable / hub combo. ADSL connection is USB modem (Billion Brand). I don't know how my (the desktop) has it's IP assigned, I assume that's by True, it's certainly not static. The laptop uses "Assign IP automatically".

To Crushdepth, yes I use a s/w firewall, but have tested it all with and without it running.

  12. Hi All,

I've had a network up and running at home for a while now (desktop with True ADSL and laptop) and everythings been fine. I recently had to reinstall the ADSL, from the CD True gave me and, for some reason, internet connection sharing no longer works.

Everyother network function is fine, both pcs can see each other no problems. The desktop has the internet connection shared. I'm not sure what else to check, or do.

Can anyone help? The pcs are just normal machines, XP Home, standard 512k True package.

    Any tips would be great,

    Many thanks

    Neph.

  13. Hi all

I just picked up a new phone (SE 750i) and, obviously, it has a camera and a send photo functionality.

To do this though, I need to set it up. Does anyone know how to do this? I'm with DTAC and it requires a message server address.

If anyone can help, that'd be great.

    cheers all

    Neph.

  14. CSLox have been blocking/limiting bandwidth between 9 and 6 for months.. Bit torrent packets are blocked alltogether during this period :o

If they are limiting it... I am just disgusted they are limiting my adsl to LESS than a dialup!

Just the latest addition to why Thailand is a (bad) joke.

  15. Hi

So, last week I did a post about how True adsl dropped to a quarter of it's normal rate between the hours of 10am and 5pm, last tues and weds. After those days, it was fine.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?act=ST&f=17&t=68725

    Until yesterday.

Yep, 10am sharp, bandwidth takes a steady downward route, and between 5 and 6 starts to rise again.

    Today, same thing.

I called true, they denied everything, of course, but the facts show this is deliberate, not a "technical problem".

I know I'm not the only one this happens to, as friends on true are also finding it.

But I just don't know what to do, other than dump True and find better - so can anyone recommend a non-capped, good service with similar pricing?

    thanks

    Neph.

  16. At 5pm I logged into Warcraft, my latency was just over 3000. Same as all day, since 10am.

At 5:45 it started to decrease. By 5:55 it was at 700, right now, it's down to 500. It's a steady decrease, not something that could be "coincedental" IMHO.

It is 6pm and back to normal for me so your hypothesis seems totally valid. Given that I am for all practical purposes locked out of using the internet during business hours starting this week, true will be hearing from me when they pull this stunt again (which I presume will be tomorrow at 8am).

was 10am today and yesterday, and I assume it'll be the same tomorrow. Stupid, isnt it?

in fact, just a few minutes ago, my connection started playing up again

  17. So, I did an experiement.

At 5pm I logged into Warcraft, my latency was just over 3000. Same as all day, since 10am.

True, or someone connected to the route True takes, definetly has a hand in this.

    Not good.

ADDED: just as I finished typing, my latency was back to what it was at 9:45 this morning, i.e. completely normal and playable.
