  1. PM not available for comment he stay close to big white phone

all jokes asside, it is nothing to do with the water that comes from the water works - it is what it goes through to get to your tap and if you live in a condo building then the source of the water is also in question, I drink from the tap but there is a 7 stage filtration system before that, I have also noticed that when I take a shower (unfiltered water) it really does stink for a minute or so

  2. These scams have been doing the rounds for years, nothing new. Ebay, Kaidee etc. The scam usually involves some plausible reason for paying you more than the advertised price.

If it seems to good to be true, It is.

I can understand if the scammers used a bogus Paypal site to get the persons account information but that does not seem to be what is implied here or maybe it is just the way the report is written.

It seems that he transferred the money from his paypal account to refund an bogus payment and overpayment, he would have had to log in to paypal to do this which means he should have clearly seen all recent transactions and the fact that there weren't any....weird

  3. 8:30 at night?

    62-year old man?

Group of motorbike taxi drivers particpate in a "beat down" that leaves farang with serious head injuries.

This is why I tell everyone I know in the US to never visit Thailand.

Even if the damage to the motorbike is true, and there are many instances of this type of scam, the resulting actions are criminal.

Lesson to all farang: Smile. Be apolite. Get the police involved.

well that is part of the problem, the police likely are already involved just like the jetski scam but not in the way you think

  4. "He insisted that the government still respects and adheres to the International Convention on the rights of the people and political rights, press freedom."

    Is that so?

Well then, that's good to know.

    Has he read the convention?

he said the government had insisted all along of the needs and reasons for the arrests and legal actions because Thailand is in the middle of transition which requires the enforcement of some rules which are not normally enforced in order to maintain peace and order.

Be interesting to see what the EU enforces over the next year or so as these attacks increase, you think it will all be normal running....I don't, Thailand was seeing escalating violence on the streets (not for the first time) and dealt with it very effectively

there's violence on the streets in every major city in Thailand every single night. Is it being dealt with effectively?

The violence down in the South is still there after 2 years of military rule, well actually they've been under military control a LOT longer, has it been controlled effectively?

You do love your cherries, as you pick them a lot!

lets hope it doesn't spread to the rest of the country and stays were it is, most countries in the world have their little pockets of sectarian violent terrorism.....granted some more than others and some to an extreme, lets hope Thailand doesn't become an extreme

  6. A reminder they are not going anywhere.

Oh boy here's the Yingluck name once again it the headlines and the junta yellows must be absolutely seething at the timing of this one.

Actually it's quite a brilliant and gutsy move as she has the one thing the junta yellows crave and that they will never have.

The hearts and minds of the majority of the Thai people.

Hearts minds pockets of a minority

  7. "He also warned against political assembly of more than five people in public, saying that the practice was illegal."

    So no referendum/charter debates!

this is a referendum not an election, why shouild politicians have a more say than anyone else, they have been told to remain inactive until such times as they are required - they had decades to impliment reforms while in office and failed to do so - they are a very large part of the problem

  8. 10 years in jail for any public official caught taking bribes. Is that in the Charter?

    It should be.

not something for the charter but I agree - the only way to stop the rot is to get serious with the offenders especially those in public office, should have been a high priority item in the junta roadmap and also enforcement of law equal for all.....no exceptions

  9. So despite being elected several times (and I include his sister and the other PTP PMs in this as he has always been the de facto leader) they think he will just sit back and watch the old elite make sure it won't matter anymore which party is elected as the dinos will rule anyway?

    Yeah, sure.....coffee1.gif

isn't that exactly what the problem is, he used his money to buy elections and also bribed the country with populous unsustainable election promises, he abused his position in so many ways they are too long to list - he broke the law and was convicted and did a runner while other charges were/are still pending and is now trying to destroy the country if he can't get his own way, scum of the highest order

  10. The girl is probably better off with him than a guy her age though. Most Thai girls get married, knocked up and then kicked to the curb when young hubby finds a new young girl to start again.

I have heard many stories about irresponsible boyfriends/husbands abandoning their responsibilities -- but I have rarely witnessed it (even with the ones I heard the stories from). Many play around on the side (and potentially get kicked to the curb), but I have never witnessed any of them abandoning their responsibility to their child.

Well since YOU haven't witnessed it, it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I don't quite understand the relevance of your post. I, for example, have witnessed it at least 3 times. blink.png

I would estimate that 9 out of every 10 girls that come and work in bars etc have at least 1 child and have been abandoned

  11. this is Thailand not the UK get over it,mum and dad got a brand new motor, plus a loads of dosh, girl got a sugar daddy, you lot and your western values. jealousy more like, come on here preaching.best of luck to all involved.its nothing to do with us

it's not about the marraige for me it is the fact that he thinks he can abuse people and get away with it

The fact she is 16 (in farang years) is another discussion

  12. another small brain that needs a life lesson and who also thinks he is above the law, this man is a public figure, if he wants his life to be private then he needs to find another job, just as well it wasn't a female reporter - what would he have done then.

Didn't they do stuff like this back in roman times

Now he has all the attention he didn't want and then some. I hope the police get involved or at the very least he loses his job

  13. it is a fine example of what some refer to as democracy - someone voted so it must be

unfortunately that simplistic view and what some people here on TVF think is democracy falls somewhat short of the real thing - democracy is a lot more than an election which is why countries like Thailand keep failing and imploding on itself - the structures and foundations are not properly in place to support it and while that situation continues so will the cycle of failure, the coup that brought this current government into office happened because the country was on the brink and someone stepped in to save it.

"it is a fine example of what some refer to as democracy - someone voted so it must be"

What's the alternative - strongmen in uniform?? Exactly when has that been successful (and you can use examples from the whole world)? This is the question you NEVER answer, and there's a reason for that. Juntas have never lead to ANYTHING poisitve.

    <snip>

" the coup that brought this current government into office happened because the country was on the brink and someone stepped in to save it."

No, the coup happened for two reasons. The Suthep led demonstrations (with support from you know who) were petering out and the caretaker government was arranging election. The yellows would have lost again and for the old elite that was unacceptable. The second reason was that the old elite wanted to be in power when the big transition takes place.

yes a fine example of faulty red style so called democracy in action - Duterte has already stated publicly that he will execute criminals on the streets - no courts - no arrests - no trials - sound familiar.....they had an election so it must be democracy (the faulty rhetoric I have heard from many posters on TVF over and over), does that make it right, anyone that thinks that is democracy needs to go get their head looked at

    For the millionth time:

What's the alternative???????????????? Unelected junta strongmen? When has that ever been a success??? When in Thailand's history has a coup solved anything??? What is it about this junta that makes you confident that this time will be different?

You keep bleating on about the imperfections of democracy but offer NO solution at all! So tell us, what's the alternative???

You DO realize that your (and the other junta supporters) inability to answer these questions makes you lose all credibility?

you would have to go back a couple of years of my posts to around the time of the coup, like I have said many times, I am willing to give the new charter and the current government road map a chance, if it doesn't provide a stable and rigid democratic platform after the elections then I will be the first to call it a failure, until then there really isn't much to talk about
