  1. Yes, you need a business plan first. No one will take you seriously if you can't manage that first step.

I have the business plan, just need to find out how to raise the money. Banks don't want to know a foreigner !

  2. Pay 160 inside and out with vacuum....

The place near Honda on Hang Dong Road (Shell Station, left hand side out of town) also does Underneath the car and they have a pretty good Customer Lounge with free Tea and Coffee (not fancy but okay) In the rainy season, if your car gets messed up within 7 days, bring it back for a FREE Exterior Was and Dry.

Don't know of any Automatic places offering all of that in the "First World." Do you???

Yep. Pretty much standard. The machines make up for the extra cost of labor (called productivity) and the price is about the same. The machines filter and recycle the water making them even more efficient. Good machinery does a really good job.

The advantage is that you don't have to wait. Drive in, wash, drive out. I am seriously thinking of installing one. Wonder if it would pay off.

  3. What has happened to Mad Dog Bar ? I remember breakfast being one of the best in Chiang Mai. Not yesterday ! Orange juice cheap weak stuff. Thin sausage full of herb, not English Breakfast sausage. Fried eggs had like plastic cover ! Toast very hard and dry, enough butter to cover 20% of one slice. Cheapest marmalade ( orange flavoured gelatine) cheap, poor quality baked beans. all mostly cold ! Had to pay 25B extra for second teabag to make tea worth drinking. Guess it's back to Amazing Sandwich.

  4. There's a recently opened Thai-Kiwi restaurant on the Doi Saket road...Klua Donpim.

Heading out of CM towards Doi Saket on the 118 after the Outer Ring road and about 1k past the big PTT gas station on the left. It has a big Kiwi out the front.

Had a lovely roast leg of lamb lunch there today.

Food off the menu is good too.

We were not so lucky. The lamb was nicely cooked and quite well carved, but that was all I liked. It was cool to start with, but served on cold plate so it was soon cold. As were the veg, gravy etc. I suspect the roast potatoes were in fact deep fried because there was no nice brown colour and taste from roast meat. The cold carrot was all wrinkled, probably because it was cooked in microwave. I could not identify the other soft mush ( vegetable). I even found garlic , which spoils the delicate flavour of lamb. A sad experience.

  5. check with ''dang'' bakery, the normally put some out and their quality of bakery products are quite satisfactory, plus , for those who like to compare prices, they beat most other retail outlets.

For seven years, I have bought crackers on line at the Christmas cracker shop. Just after they arrived this year, I saw a big display of crackers in Tops, Central Festival !! and not expensive, so I bought for next year.

  6. You get the certificate of life from the UK consulate and it is free (if for the UK government). But note that the consulate is having an extended closed period over the new year due to holidays.

The Consulate has stopped doing Proof of Life now. I tried.

  7. Some of us know the best cheap deals at Rimping, one I'll keep secret as it's already too well known and often out of stock. BigC stock it @ 50% extra cost.

One I'll share is ACE frozen French Fries @ 105bt ... up to 50Bt cheaper than elsewhere. That's a huge saving.

That's because ACE fries are inferior to the good quality Simplot fries they have replaced with ACE.

  8. Checked out Klua Donpin today and was very impressed to find another great restaurant in the Doi Saket area. I had the breakfast which was the standard Sausage, egg and bacon with toast, pretty standard stuff but all cooked well. I decided to go for an Avacado salad as well, a nicely presented salad with Avocado's that were just perfect in way of ripeness. My wife had the fish and chips, she enjoyed it but it was too much for her to finish with a large helping of french fries and a nice freshly made coleslaw with a tasty salad dressing. I also had a couple of coffee's and finished off with a Fresh Kiwi cheesecake with cream that was probably the best I've tasted in Chiang Mai [Ragu's Limoncello Cheesecake has just dropped to second place!]

Both the owners Pim and Don were very friendly and want to pride themselves on the quality of their food and the cleanliness and hygiene of their restaurant and kitchen. They have only been open a few weeks but already have built up a repeat clientele of local Thais and Expats.

They are very near to opening a sports bar on the 2nd floor of the restaurant which will be great to watch sporting events with other Doi Saket / Sansai expats and they do a Sunday Lamb Roast each week starting at around twelve.

As I said this is the first time I've been in the place today and I like to support good Local restaurants, ticks all the right boxes for me friendly owners, an interesting menu and reasonable prices.

Doi Saket is a big area. Where is the restaurant Klua Donpin

  9. A few not mentioned are I am Gourmet for cheap Western Food, the menu is pretty average but the staff and friendly and they do a reasonable plate of ribs there. Mr Esarn does good North Eastern food if you didn't guess by the name, good gai yang, somtam and beef sausage it's in Doi Saket town itself near the market and on the road to the Amphur.

There is also a little Mom and Pop style Thai food place just along from the Tesco Lotus that does standard Thai food, I grab their Salad with Pumpkin Sauce for 30 Baht to take away they do good size bowls of noodles here and all the usual.

Just past the Doi Saket turn off is Dairy Goat Cafe where you can get a good fresh goat milk smoothie and various pork dishes cooked in goats milk, everytime I've been there they have been out of Goats Cheese but it is on the menu, kids can feed the kids and goats as well.

My top pick is Sol E Luna Italian restaurant just before the Doi Saket turn off, great home cooked Italian food with a friendly no frills atmosphere..I love this place.

I agree that Sol E Luna is good food, but cold plates and VERY slow service, otherwise I would go there often. It seems that they can only cook for one table at a time !! The Italian further along that road, maybe a few hundred meters on the left, just past Doi Saket turn and after petrol station is very good, and though service is still slow, it is faster than Sol E Luna, and plates are hot.

You can't rush a good cook,Sit back and enjoy a nice cold drink have a nice conversation with your partner then you will really enjoy your fine home cooked pasta. If you like your plates warmed first ask, the staff don't bite.

I would need to enjoy a few cold drinks, it's so slow ! A good cook should be able to cook quickly, and cook a number of tables requirements at the same timeใ I was single handed Chef for many years. I could cook 5 course Xmas Dinner for 150 pax and serve them all in less than 2 hours. I could also cook, in my own restaurant, many different lunches for 56 seater coach loads, sometimes 3 per day, who all wanted to eat and get on tour of Stratford-upon-Avon quickly !!

  11. I see a number of negative posts among the good ones. Maybe we were unlucky. We went on Friday night after reading this post. I asked if the Pate was smooth or coarse. I was told smooth. It was coarse and more or less tasteless.. It is best summed up by my wife's comment as we left after trying one mouthful of main course, "That was the worst meal we have tried in Thailand !". She usually prefers Western food.

No Thai food in a Franco-THAI restaurant !! The lady, whom I guess is the owner, seemed completely uninterested. . I asked where the beef came from, she replied, "market". .

  12. Thank you Rob.

I have made a lot of noise. Faxes to CEO, Nissan Thailand.

At last something is being done. man from BKK inspected yesterday. He can not find cause so hjas sent report to Japan.

At first the idiots here told me I should use 95 gasahol because the E20 was causing the problem !!

Contact Nissan Thailand head office and lodge a very strong complaint. Ring and email them. Make some noise,

Have you had an independent inspection? Cockpit franchise on hangdong rd for example?
