  1. And maybe kawa valve shims also go out of spec within 1000 km and possible they do not even bother to check? How can we know that? It is 22k thb for a 17 full services with consumables/parts and labor until 100.000 km for honda 500s. How much does it cost at kawa shop for service until 100.000 k with parts and labor i just wonder?

LL who cares what they charge....The question is why are they charging for shims? LL said "with consumables/parts and labor until 100.000 km"

I would keep that photo of those 17 full service charges and see if the rates dont increase in 5 years.....

Well i did not pay for any shims at my 1000 km service or maybe they changed it under warranthy.

One thing i can agree with you is, valve check at 1000 km service is an overkill and if it is about engine, maker needs to cover it for free but do kawa pay for valve shims if they are out of spec? I do not think so.

Honestly i dont know as i never heard of any needing replacing under warranty. if a kawa needs them then they should be covered imho. As a matter of fact anything in the engine should be covered. The only possible exception could be the clutch.

anyway we can all agree to disagree

  3. If you can't afford the maintenance, don't buy the bike.

BS. On a bike a few weeks old, honda want to check the valves on their new engines. They find that it's not quite right, through no fault of your own, and they charge the customer for correcting their own mistake. Disgraceful!

Sorry but shims for valve clearance are a consumable just like brake pads and other items. I didn't have to change them, even the mechanic told me if I wanted to I could wait till the 12Km service but I chose not to wait. Give me a break, 95 baht for a valve shim and your going crazy, oil change and filter cost more than that and you have to do that every 6000km....

There is nothing disgraceful about it, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Love the Honda 500 series bikes, no regrets buying one and no regrets paying for the maintenance. I smile every time I go for a ride. Oh wait, it cost 500 baht to fill the tank with 95, oh no, there is more money, I should call Honda and complain; the bike uses gas!!!! Come on, I just paid over 200k baht I can't believe I have to keep paying more to drive it LOL....

You are contradicting yourself. You said they were "out of spec".. You are right you dont have to do anything but if you didnt change them and this caused another issue my guess would be your screwed. No one is saying the honda 500 is bad so no need to be defensive. No one is concerned about the amount. It is a defective part or workmanship and honda should stand behind its product. FYI piston rings are also consumable like brake pads so your analogy is not very good....I am sure you would be complaining if they your compression was out of spec and they wanted you to pay for new rings....Anyway good luck with your bike and if you dont mind paying its ok with me :-)

What's the problem? Is the 1st 1000k service supposed to be free in your opinions?

No when something fails in a new engine it should be covered under warranty. I guess since you dont seem to know or understnd this maybe your not from the west.

  5. Just got goodridges for about 5000 something. Compared to European prices nearly same

I would not go for goodridge its just a cheap brand imho. If i remember they are not even dot approved. That in itself is a reason to buya different brand
I did not know they were a UK product but they are DOT/TUV approved

Goodridge brake lines is an imported product from UK and has passed D.O.T. certified and T.U.V. approved (Germany). Also been certified ISO9002.

    I stand corrected

  6. Some of these bikes you are suggesting are, to my mind, not really candidates for cafe racers, they will already do a ton, my feelings are that you take a bike that won't and modify it so it will.

That SR400 looks good, but the vast majority here don't have green books.

Where are you located as i know a sr400 here in pattaya its old and would be ideal if u have the know how.

  7. Beware. My thai brother-in-law works for the Department of Transportation (licenses and vehicle registrations). He said that starting in August, all motorcycles five years old or more will have to be inspected at the DOT, with this new procedure: A sound meter will check the decibel level of the exhaust and feed directly into their computers. If they do not have the sound file or if it is too loud, the computer software will not issue the new registration. I supposed somebody could substitute a different motorcycle for a pay-off.

Frankly, with all the ridiculously loud Harley's out there, this policy does not totally break my heart.

I am a little worried about the Scorpion exhaust on my ER6n as it is considerably louder than stock. You would be advised to keep you stock system and all the mounting hardware, as you may find that you have to put it back on for the test. RSD has another five years before he has to worry, but I am in year four already.

I was a little taken aback by the new policy as I had heard nothing about it. BIL came for a visit over Songkran and ask me about some English in the new DOT software. I asked him why there was all this stuff about sound meters and decibels and he explained the new policy to me. He said there was no way to defeat the software.

This inspection has been in place for years unless its something new. 5 years for bikes 7 for cars. If its the same nothing to worry about ;]

The new thing is the decibel meter and computer software that precludes registration if the sound pressure exceeds a certain level.

Always tested the sound here in pattaya but will see when my cbr goes for a new sticker.

  9. I may have to look at the Brocks too. I ordered the muzzy megaphone already but just got a email saying "45-60 days delivery time". Is this normal from these companies?

Did they say if they had it on the shelf? Your bike might an older model (?) and maybe made to order.

My bike is a 2013 but 2010-2013 are the same. I didnt ask if it was in stock just ordered from jcmotors as they had it on sale.

  10. This service issue makes kawasaki look like a better deal even if more money. If you hit 1000k and now have to wait a month for your service. I guess your bike has to sit because of possible warranty issues? In the usa you can do the service yourself and not have a issue but here who knows?

Yeah totally agree that its nonsense to wait 1 month for just the 1st 1000km service. But I wouldnt go to kawasaki either! Their customers service isnt much better than hondas! Its worse I heard!

Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

From personal experience i never had to make a appointment with kawasaki for a oil change. Never had any other issues so i cant comment anymore about their service. ninja 250, dtracker 250 & z1k

  12. Just to clarify, this was a truck driver in Isaan, right? Not even a Honda truck driver, just a truck driver.
Would it be more believable if he said he was from japan rented a truck and was scouting a plant location....dont shoot the messenger a mechanic told me ducatis were going to be made in thailand. Guess what they are ... amazin thailand....
Ducati assembles just one bike here, the Asian market only Monster 795.
    WRONG!
On which point? What else is made here then? I can't find any info in it beyond the 795 and some rumours that the Diavel will be or is assembled here as well.

diavel is and two more already announced.
