  1. I think all you have to do is to apply in Bangkok to have the C of E transferred to your new passport, using the "Transfer" VAF. You shouldn't have to apply for Right of Abode all over again.

You may get posters telling you not to bother, because you can produce both the old passport showing RoA and your new passport when you travel. But I remember an Aussie who posted on another forum that he'd been sacked from his job in the UK because the Cert of Entitlement is endorsed as valid only within the validity of the passport - when his passport expired the employer rang up UKBA and the muppets there said that he was no longer entitled to be working or in the UK!!! - total nonsense, of course, but outside bog standard enquiries, the people who answer the phones there haven't a clue.

So you're probably right to get an endorsement in your new passport, but you're only applying for a transfer of what exists already, and you should be able to do that in BKK.

That's a bummer for that guy. Though, the certificate in my passport isn't endorsed with the above.

Yeah, I pray that the BKK embassy can sort this out, without loads of hassle and minus the huge expense.

  2. Mmm, looks like they know how to make a dollar, and I complain about the hoops which we have to jump through, here in Thailand.

You may also find How to apply for a certificate of entitlement to right of abode useful and, although it is aimed at applicants in the UK, guide ROA, especially section 7 detailing what supporting documents are required for the different categories of applicant.

    I appreciate your help.

I hope that the UK embassy, Bangkok can accept the application, etc.

  3. Is there a code at the top of your form (perhaps one or two Thai letters and a number, for example)? If so, that could make finding a translation easier.

Thanks for your help :) .

I've looked over this document and also last year's contract in detail (we rented the same home)

and everything which is printed on the latest is in the scan. Unfortunately, there's no document number, on the front or back. Does the writing under the signature spaces have any identification numbers?

  4. They roughly mean...

    1) You are responsible for paying for the electricity, water, taxes and other applicable fees.

    2) You are responsible for all expenses large and small relating to the upkeep and repair of the room.

    3) If you fail to pay the rent on time, you agree to forfeit the deposit. You agree to allow the renter to remove your possessions and lock the room immediately without informing you in advance, and to move out of the premises.

    Thanks, you're a gem :) !

I had no idea the the contractual terms were so outrageously tilted to the advantage of the lessor.

  5. Hi, I've a, Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode - UK (http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/in...f12rightofabode), pasted into my Aussie passport.

Nearly ten-years ago, I applied for and received it from the British High Commission, Canberra.

As I'll be receiving my renewed Australian passport in a couple of days, with as little inconvenience as possible, I'd like to transfer the Right to Abode certificate to it.

However, looking at the above website, it seems that the permit may not be so 'permanent' after all, and I may have to mail a completely new application (including, passport, my dear mother's birth certificate and other personal identification documents of mine) to a British High Commission at a cost of 215 quid, not including postage, etc, as opposed to just getting it transferred form my old passport to the new renewed one at the UK embassy here in Bangkok :) .

I'd appreciate if other posters who have the same certificate could share there experiences of renewing it whilst staying in a third country :D .

  6. Posted this in the housing sub-forum, but had minimal luck.

Apparently, this is a copy of a standard, Thai home tenancy agreement, available at most good bookstores and newsstands. For something so common, I would have thought an English translation would be freely available. Though, I'm having trouble finding one. Maybe a poster could provide a link to a translated copy?

My landlord is of the belief that she's allowed to enter our abode without any prior notice. She's set off three clauses in the contract with asterisks.

It'd be great and appreciated if I even got, these three clauses, translated.

    :)

  8. Yes. I've used the search the function, got some information, now I need more.

I've got my eye on some Bangkok property as an investment. Would now like to open the bare minimum limited company as a means to purchase it.

I'd use a legal firm/lawyer, cause I'd need them to handle the whole setup process, i.e: shareholders, them to show the capital (right now, I don't have millions of baht readily available), etc. Now, a couple of questions. What kind of fees do they charge for the initial company setup? Once it's setup would there be much annual paperwork? Would I need the services of an accountant every year, or could I use the same mob which handled the setup process?? What fees do they charge?

While I was googling I saw a Hua Hin based real estate group advertising fees of under 20k baht for startup and annual fees not over 20k for bookkeeping and having an authorised auditor. Are they reasonable costs? I'm in BKK, so I guess they wouldn't be of much use to me, as I don't want to travel to far.

  9. The wp3 form, which you get when you have submitted your request for a work permit (extension) states the following at the back:

    Warning

Applicants can work after having recieved a work permit issued by the department of employment. Any violation will lead to penalty in accordence with the law.

Non-Immigrant visas provide the holder with eligibility to apply for a work permit, and allow the holder to work while the work permit application is being considered.

So do we have Immigration saying one thing and the Labour Department and other thing...?

I think I would be careful hiding behind that statement. The quote above comes from the board of investment and not from either immigration or the office that handles work permits.

I think Immigration and ministry of labor are still saying the same thing with regards to working during the application process while the board of investment is saying something else; however, I doubt the board of investment has never arrested anyone for working without a work permit.

    We have a contradiction here,

http://' target="_blank">Italian arrested for working without permit

    Boonlua Chatree

Chonburi police arrested an Italian man at a Naklua restaurant for working while his work permit application was still being processed.

    n15-caught%20working.jpg

Alessandro Gregoris has been arrested for working without a permit, even though his application was being processed.

A team of officers descended upon the Dela Luna Restaurant about 7:30 p.m. Jan. 27 and arrested Alessandro Gregoris, 36, who they found sitting at a computer inside the eatery.

Gregoris denied he was working, maintaining he was simply studying to prepare for work later. He told officers he already held a non-immigrant business visa and had applied for a work permit, which was still being processed.

Immigration officials verified his story, but still charged him with working without a work permit and will prosecute accordingly.

Abhisit's house attacker arrive in Land Rover

    By The Nation

The bags of foul-smelling excrement and fermented fish were thrown into the grounds of the premier's home on Monday afternoon. A policeman was supposed to be standing guard in front of the house at the time, but according to Suthep, there was nobody there when the offender rode by.

Rumor also has it that the perp has a case of constipation, after one of the windows was cracked by a stray log.

  11. Well, finally new game from Future Park contacted us to pick up the second time repaired PS2. Again, it wouldn't play any games. We managed to secure a refund and are now having it repair by another playstation retailer. We chose not to use Sony, as like newgame pointed out, a Sony repaired PS2 will only be able to play original games.

  12. Guess they lost a few readers when they denied permission for TV to post their articles.

    You mean FREE readers.

The articles posted were always linked to BKK Post's website. Is that a free or member's only pay-site? I think it's a free site. Who buys most of their newspapers?

Any advertisement is good advertisement. Reminds me of cutting off your nose to...and all that.

  13. Why would lasers burn out on copy games faster ???

In support of LivinLos, I guess he means that some of the copies may have been burnt on to inferior discs. I've heard many complaints about the quality of Princo DVDs/CDs. This may put extra work on the laser.

What part of a laser is always broke from china ??? If it is defective, it doesnt work plain and simple. too funny.

A lot of the non-original cheapo parts come from China. These have quite a name for being of low and dodgy quality. Maybe they have trouble reading low quality discs, as opposed to original laser replacements.
