  1. Once in a quiet park set back from a beach in Sydney, i watched as about 10 Myna birds were harassing a crow. It was obviously too close or had just raided a nest The crow didn't seemed bothered by it, just languidly flying around as the mynas kept swooping in on it. After about 2 minutes the crow got tired of it, grabbed and killed the next one that dive bombed it and dropped the body and just as languidly flew off. I was a little taken back at the callous nature of the scene.

    Liked your story BTW,

  2. my extensions only say 'Retirement'. no mention of non-imm. My multiple re-entry only has 'NON-IMM' above the stamp and in the visa category. All my re-entry stamps back into Thailand since 2014 (when passport was issued) are either stamped or hand written 'Non-RE' There is nothing in my passport saying NON-O or NON-OA.

Actually when i had my passport renewed in 2014 and took it to Thai Immi they seemed to stamp a bit of history on the first page when transferring the visa extension (retirement). One stamp shows my 'Visa Class' as 'Non-ED' (Education visa) back in 2009 and another shows my 'Visa Class' as 'Non-RE'

I guess that is why I and probably a few other people get confused when talking of 'Retirement', NON-O or NON-OA visas. But i am assuming i am on a Non-OA.

Interesting looking at the London Thai Embassy showing the various Type O visas and the Type O-A visa. It clearly states for the O-A that insurance is necessary. Also required for the Type O-X.

"Copy of evidence stating that applicants have insurance as stipulated by the Office of Insurance Commission and health insurance of Thailand which has insurance coverage for outpatient not less than 40,000 Baht and for inpatient not less than 400,000 Baht. Please check < http://longstay.tgia.org> for more information regarding the insurance requirement."

  3. if your dog isn't getting attacked by the other dogs then maybe put a muzzle on him when you go out walking. It doesn't even have to be an affective working one but it should allay any fears of your neighbours when they see him wearing it. Otherwise, as suggested earlier, ignore them!

It's something with either a Toyota AA or AC front end grafted on but can't be a  pre-war Toyota.  Toyotas of that era  (1936 onwards) didn't have that curved door glass with modern flush-fitting door handles (which look suspiciously 4-door pickup-like), curved, chrome-trimmed windscreen with modern wipers or non-suicide rear doors .  If it was the real thing it would be very, valuable.

From wiki  "Three A1 prototypes were completed in May 1935. None of them survive." and "A total of 1,404 AA sedans were produced from 1936 to 1943, when the model was replaced by the more austere AC."

There are/were some rare stuff in Burma. About 20 years ago i was there and saw a Jag XK120 roadster driving down the street. As i was sitting at Yangoon airport i saw 2 P51 Mustangs taking off.

  5. plenty of trackers on Lazada but they need a SIM card. DTAC do a 365 day validity extension for 100 Baht.

But there are jammers too https://www.lazada.co.th/products/gps-tracker-i245974897-s378758657.html?spm=a2o4m.searchlist.list.63.74865b63HdHx3P&search=1

There is this pet tracker but not sure if it will work if out of range of your phone. Besides it seems to chime when it is out of range!

I don't think there is a HP classification for car excise tax in Thailand anymore. Afaik it's all based on emissions, cc, engine type (like EV etc) and car category (like pickup truck, van etc) now.

The reason why there is no 3.5L V6 sold anymore is because it incurs a heavy 50% excise tax being over 3000cc.

The tax structure is a bit <deleted> because a pretty heavily polluting diesel pickup can get a tax rate which is a third of the one a completely electric vehicle with zero emissions would get.

If there's no HP classification anymore then Honda could've sold the 2.0T Accord for nearly the same price as the current Accord Hybrid. There's no CC issue because it's less than 2,000 CC. I believe there still is a HP tax because of that.

Not sure if the 220HP excise tax is still in effect or not. The excise tax is based on CC and CO2 emissions, at least at 2016. I think there are Custom taxes/duties besides the Excise Tax

Sweet. Looks like the same engine in the Maz6. Surely there must be room to shoehorn it into the Maz3! ????

I was reading somewhere that, at least, the initial batch of Maz3 into Malaysia are from Japan, which would explain the higher price and the 1.5L variant. Maybe they are counting on the made in Japan tag will sell more than the mad in Thailand tag.

    Found it, PaulTan again:

  8. From the Malay website it seems to be 2.5L in the CX5 is not turbo; rated at 192 HP.

Thailand make the Maz3 2.5L version for Australia, i think it is normally aspirated but at least puts out 139 Kw (188 HP) compared to the 2L 121 Kw (162 HP) Thai version. No 2.5L in the Aust CX5 but the Aust Maz6 has the 2.5L Turbo rated at 170 Kw (228 HP).

The new Skyactiv-X 2L puts out 177 HP with a lot better efficiency and emissions; available in the UK but not Aust. yet.

Interestingly the Malays give 5 year Warranty and 5 year service (labour and parts) on the Maz3 as standard, while Thailand it is 5 year Warranty and 5 year labour only as a special offer; normally 3 year Warranty. Also interesting that the MX5 is running the 2L Skyactive-G and is putting out 180 HP, so obviously some tweaking can be done on the Maz3 engine.
