depending what you are trying to do, but for a small area toothpaste works a treat; i think the whitening one is more abrasive.
not quiet related, after years of searching (obviously looking in the wrong places!) i finally found a cheap wax/grease remover (brand name prepsol in Aust.) at local hardware shop. a bargain at 40 baht for a bottle.

i have been told about an organic market in Ban Amphur (haven't been there myself) at Eastern Vocational College of Agriculture (opposite the Post Office), just before Satthip Tech (Thai-Austria College). i don't know when it is, but probably on weekends.

i am sure that the a local etiquette guide in Mandarin being handed out by the Thai government will curb the few rowdy 'boganaires'.

it used to be that they would get a donor car like the Ferrari 250GTE, but it wouldn't surprise me if they manufactured or cast their own stuff (ala The Fastest Indian).
Years ago in Sydney there were a couple of D-Type replicas made that were so good that you could swap any part with an original one (except the gearbox). i watched the guys
doing the panels (they were from the Basque region of Spain), literally belting the crap out of the flat alloy sheets to form beautiful compound curves;it was amazing to watch.

his work has been known for decades in the classic car scene in Aust & NZ, i think originally doing Jag replicas. The last pic is of Jag D-Type monocoques
Cetainly something in the water as a few guys over there doing stunning replicas and restorations.
An NZ Jag C-type replica finished off in Aust.

looking at the thai customs website there seems to be the duty + excise tax + interior tax + VAT
not sure if all these taxes apply to a company imported new bike (as opposed to a personal import - obviously the duty is different) but looking at the austrade site seems to be so (at least for cars).

Reading the notes at the start (see extract below), my interpretation is the agreement started Nov 2007 so
2nd year starts April 1 2008 49.09%
3rd year starts April 1 2009 43.64%
4th year starts April 1 2010 38.18%
5th year starts April 1 2011 32.73%
6th year starts April 1 2012 27.27%
7th year starts April 1 2013 21.82%
8th year starts April 1 2014 16.38%
9th year starts April 1 2015 10.91%
10th year starts April 1 2016 5.45%
11th year starts April 1 2017 0%
So, on April 1st 2015 custom's duty rate will be 10.91%
Of course that doesn't necessarily mean the price will drop if the dealer decides to increase their profit!
"General Notes

is there anything in the law that says the plate has to be flat? Make the bobtail from the plate!

i don't know much about economics (seems a black art to me!) but the statement
"The reason why we did not change our export prediction for this year is because of the falling oil price, which has lowered production costs and allowed us to be more competitive,"
doesn't make much sense to me. Maybe Thailand use more oil for production but wouldn't lower oil prices basically mean the same for all countries, so all countries can lower their costs, hence no real advantage to be competitive?

maybe talk to these guys, they are in Pattaya (near Buddha Hill/Silverlake - i took a wrong turn and found them!)

i think RSD was on the right track, not much choice of bikes to start with (6+ years ago) CBr150, then the Ninja 250, then the 650, CBR 250 and suddenly lots of choice about 2 years ago. so people naturally stuck with what they were interested in and dispersed into various threads.
Yep, a bit more civil. Don't miss the goaders at all, nor the people that tend to repeat one line of thought ad nauseam.

almost everyday now at that Jomtien check (near Pan Pan), always at least 5 to 10 bikes ridden by foreigners waiting to get served justice. as i am wearing jeans, long sleeves, gloves and full-face helmet, when i drive through they don't realise i am farang til i am right next to them, and then i get an urgent wave to pull over. Then the thai licence is produced and off i go.
Since i have had a video camera promiently mounted on the front of the bike, i now don't get pulled over at all. So i think the video camera is more powerful than the thai licence!

always fun to look at the stats; well, for guys like Dave and me anyway!
i have been hoping that over the last couple of years that they would add more columns for bigger cc bikes.
A few more interesting stats.
Total registration for new bikes each year:
2554 (2012) 2,134,377
2555 (2012) 2,257,376
2556 (2013) 2,121,977
2557 (2014) 1,689,502 (still 2 days left so maybe will sell a few hundred thou!)
Total vehicles registered:
2542 (1999) 20.1 million
2556 (2013) 34.6 million (of which 19.8 million are bikes)

it is well known that greed and worship of Buddha images are central precepts of Buddhism; sorry, couldn't find a sarcastic smiley.
as some of the other posters have indicated, it also took me a while to put 2 and 2 together. here is a link to another TV news post that should help others

could be a bad earth strap connection. check the negative battery cable where it mounts on the body of the car to see if loose or there is corrosion. also tighten nuts on the starter motor where the cables are.
a couple of links if you want to try and check yourself.

does presenting a thai driver's licence at Ancient City work to get thai admission price (350 vs 700)?

one person's terrorist is another's freedom fighter. there has always been a separatist movement in Xinjiang, due partially (mostly?) to the suppression of Uighur culture and transplanting of Han Chinese into the area (same tactic used for Tibet). it seems rather convenient that now the PRC government can yell 'terrorist' and people in the west nod their heads, of course easier to do with Muslims than it is with Buddhists. No doubt there some genuine terrorist activities, but i would think from a country that deals harshly with religious beliefs (eg Falun Gong) or even philosophies (eg Taichi, Karate etc can be taught as an exercise but cannot discuss the philosophies behind them) that the reason for "More than 18,000 documents, 2,600 discs and 777 storage devices related to religious extremism were seized" has got to be taken with a pinch of salt; same for 'terrosits cells'.
the "intensive inquests of detained suspects" in the statement "About 40 per cent of the total 115 terror cells eliminated were found through the clues that authorities got during intensive inquests of detained suspects" doesn't leave much to the imagination. Seems like the tactic from the Cultural Revolution days of putting people under duress and torture to get people to finger someone, anyone to make the pain stop is still going on.

Batteries (with a genny) are for torches and toys..........no future in this stuff.
What the heck is a 'genny'?
It is slang for "granny".
generator. i have no idea what that has to do with torches and toys.

Those two shops have common ownership...Mityon, who also own most all of the new & 2nd-hand bike sales shops around.
30+ sales locations in greater Patts area.
Mai Tai is indy, an Israeli guy in business here 15+ years.
His boys do a lot of quality custom work including paint, powder coating, chroming, & anodizing.
Also consider the shops who do custom stainless steel tube welding for handrails, gates, &c.
hey mate.
can you direct me to this Israeli guy you mentioned ?
thks !!

yep, the local police have responded to the call. They are so concerned for the safety of tourists that this afternoon on Suk near the Ambassador Hotel, they were pulling over all the tourists to see if they had the correct 'papers' to ride motorbikes.

i used Bosny Hi-temp 1200F (from Big C, Home Pro etc), which was fine if it is not near heat! On a muffler it seemed to attract dirt which stuck to it until it was brown not black. But on the rack for the top box it is great!
Edit: that is the product mentioned in the link to another forum above my post
Jaguar 420g

a good place to start would be the Thai Jag Club
https://th-th.facebook.com/JaguarDaimlerClubThailand
back in 2013 there was a Daimler Limo for sale; based on the 420G but different styling. At least gives an idea of what is around and what price
