There is a nice Kitchen store just past Thai Watsadu on the south side of town. I browsed through but haven't bought anything from them.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that one. I will definitely go have a look there as well.  It's closer to my condo than the other shops.

  2. I made the error during initial renovation of my condo (CR Condotel center of town) of directing laborers to purchase solid black granite counter tops.  A very unforgiving color, and I am considering replacing just one of the counter tops (although I have yet to return to CR to try the cleaning advice I appreciate receiving in the real estate forum).  I'm guessing there are probably several granite counter top shops in CR, but since I'm only part time in CR with only bicycle for transport, I would like to minimize shopping around if possible.

Thanks in advance if anybody can offer experience or advice ref name & location of an honest shop providing quality work / granite at an appropriate proportionate price.

  3. Thanks all for the above advice & any further suggestions to correct the problem I have caused myself by never sealing the counter tops.

No, I never did use anything special to "seal" it.  I thought (again ignorance) that a car apholstery / leather wax that I had on hand would serve that purpose.  It looked nice & shiny while apply it wet but the counter tops are now just streaked & look terrible.  Needless to say I will try the suggestions that each of you have already provided.  Thanks again.

Edit: Perhaps they were sealed by the shop before installation in my condo.  Fortunately no stain food stains yet, just the stains from wax.

PS: What does one use as a "Sealer" (I'm guessing I need to buy something special for that, my leather wax is not working)..

  4. In my original renovation ignorance I selected expensive solid black granite floors & several counter / desk tops.  What an idiot I was, because they show the dirt without remorse & my efforts to clean / polish have only made the condition worse.  Eventually I just re-did the floors with a more forgiving color.  But that is not an option with the counter / desk tops.  Eventually I can travel back to a professional shop to discuss this with them (in my feeble Thai), but I thought I'd ask for opinions here first.

Appreciate any suggestions as to what cleaning materials to use to remove the streaks & dirt from the counter / desk ops without my causing further problems.   Thanks.

Does FM 88 Radio Thailand English make it to CR, it's supposed to be nationwide?

English language news on the hour (BBC, VOA) plus Western music, mostly easy listening mind.

Thanks, I'll be back to CR in a couple months & will try FM 88.  I listen to FM 88 in Bkk.

  6. Damn sick & tired of listening to whiney traditional Thai music.  Perhaps there is some western music on some stations, on some days, or some times of some days.  Perhaps they exist & I have just been searching wrong time of day.  I know that it's available on the internet, but I do not always have internet when visiting CR.  I do have FM radio.

    Any advice appreciated.

  7. How could immigration process everything without the form being completed?

Not sure about CM, but at Jomtien it's been more than a year since a form was required at all. Just hand over the passport. They read the barcode from the previous report and print out the new one. Done.

Usually in and out in under a minute and no cost. No joke.

    Chiang Rai same as Jomtien.

Elgordo: 90 day appears to be a gravy train (for you know who) only in Chiang Mai.

  8. looks like JAS are also going to propose (at their agm ) that they do a buyback of around 16% of their equity via a tender at 5bt a share. this would use up the majority of their cash and could leave them vulnerable if they are hit with further significant costs associated with their licence default. chance to get out?

Couldn't this 5 THB / share buyback announcement (even prior to their board decision on it) be subject to helping insider shareholders at company expense. Good Corporate Governance? Something wrong here? Could all that Mr Pete et al within JAS heirarchy have done recently (auction, market turmoil, share buyback announcement timing) be overlooked in US or European markets? Just asking. I don't know.

  9. Can the impact of the 4G financial mess we now have (caused by JAS) be blown away by 5G? Thailand in 20-30 years :).

"Download much? The explosion of data-hungry devices in recent years has put a huge strain on the world’s ageing fourth-generation wireless network. The fifth-generation, or 5G, is expected to roll out between 2018 and 2020, increasing current bandwidth by a factor of 1,000 and accelerating data transfer speeds tenfold. That means 5G network users will be able to download a high-definition feature-length movie to their cell phones in a few seconds, and self-driving cars will be able to respond to traffic conditions and communicate with other vehicles in real time. The network will also provide enough runway for the Internet of Things, in which smart appliances and machines use sensors to collect data both from the environment and about their own inner workings – a wind turbine sensing that its blade needs repairs, for example – and then store and share that information with humans and other machines over networks. Equipment manufacturers, mobile network operators, and semiconductor suppliers are already trying to influence global standards for connectivity and otherwise preparing for a 5G world, says Credit Suisse. Consider Nokia. The company has teamed up with Verizon and Ericsson to conduct 5G field trials, is working with T-Mobile US on lab and field testing and Vodafone on preparing its networks for the new mobile standard. - See more at: https://www.thefinancialist.com/spark/4g-networks-are-so-2016/?utm_source=Newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Newsletter&utm_content=Newsletter#sthash.rp0Zv118.dpuf

  10. Simply take a baht bus up Pattaya-Naklua road all the way into the heart of Naklua market area.

From there you would only have a relatively short walk east to Sukhumvit (if indeed you really do want to go further down Sukhumvit).

I looked at your map but didn't see exactly where you want to go.

If you are really looking for the place to buy nuts (your other thread) it could very well be that you want to go to the market area in Naklua anyway. Although I haven't done it myself, I'm guessing that a baht bus up Pattaya-Naklua road would probably take you directly to the market area.
