  1. Well a Benz costs much more here in Thailand then in the EU. Same as wine or anything imported.

I grew up in EU while having some Foster Parents brothers in Thailand, my parents supported them financially. Now they let me pay 10-times the Thai price when i want to visit a national park here together with my Thai wife/family.

Yes it's not fair but what can you do?

Amassing thing is you, like Thais and Americans ( you may be one of them), refer to the Benz. The last Benz manufactured was in 1923 so you are either a collector of vintage vehicles or just perhaps unable or unwilling to refer to the manufactures saloon car arm as Mercedes Benz.

Frankly I believe cars are still too cheap in Thailand especially the like of agricultural vehicles such as pick ups and the "Toytown" cars like the VIOS etc.

Quadruple the price by taxation. Increase the annual licence tax by a 1000% and get these riff raff of the roads so the likes of the general and myself can drive our more quality cars in comparative ease, and yes MB's are ten a penny so hardly exclusive and since the C and E class mass marketing, not quality either. That would be more fair would it not ? Bringing even more happiness to the Thai people surely.

And to directly address the subject no I am not tired of the unfair import duties as they are not unfair ! They are arbitrarily applied whether you are a Thai of Farang importing so same same.

You pay 10 times more to visit a National park. Thais get paid 10 times less than many nationals when working abroad so is that unfair or just market forces the same as applied here to higher entrance fees for foreigners. If you can't pay don't go, if you can then Kensiyism is working and indeed market forces come into play.

  2. To the OP please do not get disconcerted by your experience. Please remember that all banks and businesess are controlled by the so called Thai elite. They are not just out to screw you but the rest of the population and have done so for a long long time. As a foreigner you may be disgruntled but please show some compassion for the millions of Thais, especially in the North and North East who have been abused and used by the Bangkok Elite for centuries.

  3. I need to renew my passport. It took 3 emails over 10 days to get an appointment. The last email was sent 3 days ago. Today I received an appointment for 27th May. Hopefully it will be plain sailing from now on.

you re lucky, I have now sent 3 emails over 2 weeks and still not had a rply regarding an appointment. VFS must be a Thai/Indian agency = we don't give a toss to customers, especially British passport holders

  4. I have had such a variation over the years, depends upon what jumped up custms goon is assessing it. Many items could be 10 % but office equipment is generally 30% or should be . An electric standing desk is going to totally confuse them as they will have no comprehension of what it is so on the customs declaration you should describe it as say just as a tall desk - up to you but soon as electric is mentioned they could be trying for 100%.

you never know you may get a good one an they charge you 20 or 30 %, the correct duty plus of course 7% VAT.

As for getting one made here then I guess you want a decent one, fit for purpose rather than something nailed together and lacquered over 'till it falls to bits ?

  5. They need to fundamentally change information taught in schools and given to the general public. As Thaivisa members know there is not one single Farang who is not an expert in everything nor know the solutions to all problems. Therefore by telling the Thai populace that we are almost Demi-gods then they can give us the undying respect/hero worship that we all know Farangs here deserve.

Alternatively they could just leave things as they are as a Xenophobic paradise.

  6. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

Don't bother to do anything as it costs a disproportionate amount of money. Do nothing and it automatically gets struck of the register with no further costs to yourself.

BS, just read Thai company law legislation. Until then don't comment on something you clearly have no knowledge of. Ops sorry forgot you possibly are unable to read Thai.

  7. I can remember 1st tme I ever arrived in Thailaand it was at U-Tapao airport approx 1990...short taxi to Pattaya ..very convenient much better than BKK airports experience/hassle.

With half of all travellers to Thailand wanting to go to Pattaya and to a lesser extent the eastern seaboard anyway, why isn't the government pushing to make U-Tapao into a major international airport to compete alongside Suvarnabhumi? Half the flights that currently land at Suvarnabhumi could be shifted to land at U-tapao, particularly charters from Russia, China, Korea, other CIS countries like Uzbekistan and elsewhere. It simply doesn't make sense to force nearly all carriers to use overburdened Suvarnabhumi, an airport with a terminal that is choking at capacity and with only 2 runways and reportedly not enough aerobridges (although I have never seen all of them occupied).

What a delusional policy. They should have upgraded U-Tapao years ago. A capacity of only 800,000 a year? That's like the same as some regional airport high up in the mountains of Indonesia or Columbia. Thailand is a mass tourism market - there should be a capacity of like 20 million passengers a year at U-Tapao, after all, Suvarnabhumi has been receiving 35-50 million passengers a year and even Don Muang is getting upwards of 10-15 million, even 25-30 before most flights were moved to Suvarnabhumi.

I should imagine that Suvarnabhum and its backers would fight tooth and nail to prevent loss of revenue. Decisions are always made in Bangkok, guess where Suvarnabhum is?

    Samat Prakan the adjacent province

  8. "High-rise buildings built after 2007 in Bangkok can withstand shaking from earthquake of 6.3 magnitude, according to the Building Control Division of the Department of Public Works of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration."

Nonsense. Thai engineers wouldn't have a clue about soil liquefaction. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soil_liquefaction

I'm certain the soil underneath the buildings in Bangkok was never strengthened to avoid this earthquake phenomenon.

Actually it would be more truthful to say that the buildings since 2007 are designed to withstand a 6.3 magnitude earthquake. However as everybody knows corners are cut, money for projects are scammed and all buiding control officials are corrupt, so most buildings are not built in accordance with their design. So just wait for a huff and puff and they will be blown away.

  9. Fracking is not a good thing. Please show us you care about thais and ban it Mr Prayut

As preliminary geological surveys and data assessment have listed Thailand as having the 19th largest potential for shale gas in the world it 'ain't going to happen. You think if only 10% of that is recoverable and based on the Thai average of 30% income skimming, then the General and his cronies are going to stop that opportunity ?

Those deposits are primarily in the Korat basin and where does the General come from and whose family have large land holdings in that area ? Do your research and apply some logic and whilst there is still debate world wide about the fracking process, money still rules, especially in Thailand.

  10. 59 dead,723 injured,in a day,and they think this is good because it is less than last year, words fail me.

And that is just a small part of the carnage statistics. They only count deaths at the scene of the accients, not those that succumb to their injuries later in hospital. Typically Thai. So multiply every stat by 2, add on another 50 % for unreported accidents and you may be nearer the truth.

Natures way I suppose in culling the weak.

  11. Yes tell the truth. The death of those 90 unarmed, peace loving soldiers slaughtered as they played guitars and sang, 'Blowing in the Wind,' is a national tragedy.

    human

Exactly and whilst they are at it let the media publish the pictures of 78 of those unfortunates showing gunshot wounds to their backs. Those poor brave Thai military men typify Thai incompetence, cruelty and basic inhumane actions ordered at the time. Now let's see who was one of those Generals at the time, authorizing such massacre and now in government thanks to gun law ?
