  1. I've never had a Norbest -- always Butterball, so we'll see. Maybe after having the Norbest this year, I may be seriously considering contracting for four locally raised turkeys next year. Actually, more. We really could use four for Thanksgiving, four for Christmas and four for an extra made up holiday we throw celebrate in early February -- i.e. the end of the season when it's still cool enough you still feel like slaving away in the kitchen. By then, our freezers are way full, too.

Crikey - where I come from that's 12 years worth of turkey in 3 months. You must be stuffed! :)

  2. thanks all, 22-30THB per SQM is fine for me. Anyone fancy doing some raking? smile.png

Unless you are elderly or in firm it is good exercise I did 9 tonnes in 2days and I am 60 just take it steady, it gives the feeling of achievement

Out of interest how many sqm did you cover with 9 tonnes, or how many 5 cubic meter lorries did you get delivered? I have around 3000 sqm to do ( will probably do it in stages. ) I am guessing you need to rake the large rocks and stones out of the existing area then just need a thin ( few cm's ) layer of black mud ( Din Dam ) on top then just lay the turf on top of that, add water and hey presto. Is that roughly what to do? I'm sure I'm about to bite off more than I can chew :)

  3. Hi, Has anyone got current costs per square meter for this? Ideally from a company that will prepare the soil and lay the turf. Any recommendations for a contractor or place to buy please let me know. I am aware of Khamtieng, although I haven't checked prices for several years. If anyone has done this recently It would be great to hear from you.

    Kind regards

  4. Greetings, I hope I can get some advice here. I'm totally ignorant when it comes to all things electrical so please bear with me.

We recently moved into our new house and have experienced the first heavy rains, high winds and expected power cut. One of our aircon units circuit boards got frazzled when the power came back on. Apparently a "power surge." We are told it will cost 15k to get a new board and a weeks wait whilst it gets shipped from Bangkok. Its not the end of the world but I thought it seemed expensive, the unit itself was (from memory) around 45K. Does this seem like the right price for effectively a pcb with a few bits and pieces soldered on? The aircon is a mitsubishi 24k btu inverter type.

As we have several other aircon units ( not all invertor type ) I would like to avoid this happening again. Not only did one aircon get damaged, also our wifi router and a TV. The same guy that has quoted us 15k for the replacement aircon circuit board said that for a further 15-20k he can install something that will mean this cannot happen again. I asked if it was a surge protector ( not that I really know what these are ) or a type of UPS, sadly with my very basic Thai and his very basic English I don't think either of us had any idea who was talking about what, unfortunately my wife and her guests couldn't really describe what he was offering either.

Google tells me whole house surge protectors are available. Has anyone here got experience of them, can they easily be fitted after a house has had its electrics fitted. Any one have any Chiang Mai contacts to do this work? Or is there a better solution? Does 15-20k sound feasible for a way to protect lots of expensive electrical appliances. Please if anyone has any advice and experience that they can give me in layman's terms please let me know. Much appreciated.

    Kind regards

  5. Can anyone please point me in the direction of a company that can make a gate and pedestrian gate for our new house. If the same company can install the electrics that would be great too. I am sure I have seen scores of these shops in the past, now I need one they have all vanished ! The people we used last time also moved on :) If anyone has any recommendations I would be most grateful, Ideally in the Sansai / Doi Saket area but elsewhere OK too.. We are after a relatively basic design incorporating steel and painted conwood most likely, nothing too fancy or ornate as they tend to be sometimes. Any help much appreciated.

  6. Thank you MrBrad & Greenside. I have about 4000sqm to do so should be able to generate some interest in the job, I hope. Will definately speak with Eric as the land is very sandy so need advice on what will do well in those conditions. Thanks again. If anyone else has had a good experience with a paticular contractor please let me know.

  7. Hi

Does anyone have any information on a company that will design our garden or give us some ideas and point us in the right direction. Do you know what this service typically costs? I suppose there are plenty of people at Kamtieng that can help however if anyone has any personal recommendations I'd appreciate it. There used to be a very knowledgeable chap with a garden you could visit in Hang dong area ( I think ) is he still about does anyone know, any contact details?

  8. Any ideas where to buy this in bulk, 2metres high ( Maybe a little less ) and about 250 -300 metres in total length. Do they come in 3 x 2 M panels? or what are the options please? I appreciate it won't last too long so want to find the factory / wholesale places to get the lowest price, by the time it rots away I'm hoping my hedge will of become established. Any help much appreciated. CM2

  10. Hi, looking for a nice place to stay on Koh Samet in the next 2-3 weeks, beachfront private pool villa, or beachfront villa. Can consider other room types if the hotel / restaurant is outstanding. Ideally on a quiet beach that has good swimming in the sea ( is it choppy this time of year? and if so are their any sheltered beaches? ) We have never been before and would like to hear from people familiar with the island. We will possibly just stay a few days and it would be nice for me to do some cat sailing in the daytime and be close to a night market ( do they have one? ) to keep wife, 7 year old daughter and nanny happy in the evening..If you know anywhere that fits the bill please let me know.

Also any recommendations for similar on the mainland around Ban Phe, can be 50-100km south too. Here we would most likely be interested in renting a villa, we stayed in a nice house at Crystal beach development a few years ago.. Is there anything similar in this vicinity. Or hotels on the beach that are quiet and family friendly.

    any help much appreciated.

  11. Hi, I am looking at some land and would like to know current costs for walls, 2m high, basic block ( breeze block ( i think )) either rendered or just left plain. If anyone can tell me an approximate cost per running metre I'd be most grateful. All the land plots I am looking at are relatively flat and dry orchard land between 3 and 7 rai, I don' t think the post foundations need to be too deep but would like to hear any advice from people that know.

    Kind regards CM2

  12. I used to follow your old lake thread, when you were creating it. It has turned out really nice. thumbsup.gif

DLock and GaryP any chance of a link to the thread when you were making the lake / pond please.. I had a little search in the DIY and Real Estate forum thinking it might be there but could not find it. I would very much like to read through that as its something I'm considering in the future.

Not sure if i am allowed to put the link but toys r us in thailand deliver to most places in thailand you will find what you are looking for there.

I have a inno tab for my girl and can download loads of educational apps online .

Indeed your only option other than eBay.

Thanks for confirming, I thought this would be the case, just hoped I was missing a hidden gem.. I will contact Toys R Us again - when I asked them if they could deliver to Chiang mai before they said NO! It was ages ago though..

Its still NO in case anyone else needs to know.. Toys R Us do not deliver. We will go to BK :)
