  1. A nice story now from Nong Nooch Gardens in Jomtien. Mr. Zhenming Wu aged 61 is a Chinese National who was caught up in the problems caused by the recent closures of the Bangkok Airports.

    He arrived at Suvanabumi Airport on 23rd November and had arranged to meet with a customer who intended to utilize Mr. Wu’s Herbal Medicine services.

    Mr. Wu had a return ticket to Thailand with China Southern Airlines. He arrived at the customer’s house to find that no one was there. He spent some days in Bangkok and then intended to go back to China, however the Bangkok Airports were closed so he decided to use the last of his money to hire a taxi to take him to Utapao Airport.

    He arrived at the airport to find that no flights were available on his airline. Nong Nooch staff who were providing entertainment at the Airport spotted the man and it was decided that Nong Nooch would help the man who was allowed to stay at the Nong Nooch resort for free for 3 days.

    On Tuesday Morning they arranged transport for Mr. Wu to the now-open Suvanabumi Airport for his flight back to China.

  2. On Monday Evening on the Pattaya Beach side of the Royal Garden Plaza, Khun Itipon, the Mayor of Pattaya, was guest of honor at the switching on of the Christmas Lights at this popular shopping center.

    This annual event, this year organized by Khun Satawat, the General Manager of the Royal Garden Plaza, signifies the start of the festive season here in Pattaya and despite the worries of many that Tourist numbers are going to be significantly lower this year, everyone was in high spirits as the spectacular Christmas tree and lights covering the front of the Shopping Plaza were switched on by the Mayor.

  3. Police Lieutenant Artit from Sriracha Police Station was called to the front of shop in Soi Yoosook in Surasak sub-district in Sriracha on Tuesday Morning following reports of a fatal shooting at the location.

    Police arrived and inspected the body of Khun Daroong aged 39, the owner of the shop.She had been shot twice in the head as witnessed by her young brother, Khun Jaroon aged 38.

    He explained to Police that two men arrived at the shop on a motorbike with no license plate. The two men appeared to be in their 40’s and asked Khun Jaroon for some cigarettes.

    He asked his older sister to serve the men. She arrived and one of the men shouted out her nickname “Kow” and then shot at her as she attempted to run away from the shop.

    The gunman then pointed the gun at her younger brother and shot at him once, and luckily the shooter missed. Both men then left the scene.

    Police think the shooting took place because of the dead woman’s association with class 1 drug activities and money lending in the local area. The investigation continues.

  4. On Tuesday Morning, Police were called to a steel construction store in Bang Pra sub-district in Sriracha after the business owner, Khun Sutaerp aged 39, had reported that he had just shot a man dead at the location.

    At the scene, Khun Sutaerp was placed under arrest as Police inspected the body of an unknown Thai Man, who Khun Sutaerp claimed was in the process of stealing items from his store.

    It is thought that the victim had committed many thefts in the local area and Khun Sutaerp claims that he had seen enough when he saw the man inside the store early on Tuesday Morning.

    He produced a gun and shot him dead. Khun Sutaerp is claiming self defense and because the incident occurred inside his property it is unlikely the case will be taken any further according to Police.

  5. On Saturday Night, Police Major Wittaya from Pattaya Police Station was called to the Sombat Condominium in Soi 5 off the Pratamnuk Road in South Pattaya following reports that a Thai man had been detained on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

    At the scene, Police were met by Mr. Bent Borge Christiansen aged 69 from Denmark. He was able to detain a suspect thief who was caught inside his apartment.

    Khun Ek aged 25 immediately confessed to the theft and Mr. Christiansen explained that he had returned to his apartment following a night out with his Thai Wife.

    The door was locked from the inside and the lights were switched on inside the apartment which alerted Mr. Christiansen to a problem.

    Mr. Christiansen summoned assistance from Security Guards and with their assistance they were able to detain the suspect who eventually opened the front door with items of value in his hands including a laptop computer owned by the victim.

    A fight broke out causing Mr. Christiansen to sustain some injuries but eventually the suspect was detained.

    He was taken to Pattaya Police Station where he explained that himself and an accomplice, Khun Kay, who managed to escape had come to receive money to purchase Yabba Tablets from Khun Ek’s girlfriend. She was not in her room so the men formulated a plan to steal items from the nearby Sombat Condominium Complex.

  6. A short while ago we featured a story regarding a Buddhist Statue at the Banglamung Temple which sparked a PAD protest which demanded the base of the statue be changed.

    The base was commissioned by the Temple and a local architect was given a brief to feature high-profile Government leaders from the past.

    The base featured an impression of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and following the protest the image was removed from the base.

    On Sunday Afternoon we were back at the Temple following reports that the Buddhist Statue had been defaced by someone who threw some form of acid on it, causing some damage.

    The motive behind the attack is unknown as the previous problems with the PAD had been resolved. There were no witnesses to the attack and Banglamung Police have been informed. 100,000 Baht’s worth of damage has been caused to the Statue.

  7. Sattahip Police are currently hunting for five Khmers who are suspected of having brutally killed another Khmer victim to steal his property and subsequently buried his body in a local tapioca field.

    At 1pm, on Dec 5, 2008, Pol.Lt.Col. Bamrung Rakbamrungsakul of Sattahip Police was notified by Mr. Amnuay Luengwilai (60), that a Khmer worker had been murdered and buried in tapioca field, located at Moo 5, Plutaluang, Sattahip, Chonburi. Doctor Rames Amphaipis, the Sattahip Hospital Director, and Rojanathamasathan Rescue were immediately sent to the incident scene.

    At the Plutaluang tapioca field, located by the 10th km marker pole, 3 kilometres from Sukhumvit Road, the deceased body of Mr. Man (25), a Khmer worker, was found buried one metre deep under the ground. He had been stabbed in the stomach by a sharp iron object. His right wrist and head had been severely slashed, to the degree that his neck had been almost chopped off. The police assessed he had been dead for 6 hours. There was a pool of blood and 3 pairs of slippers on the ground about 20 metres away from the body. Rojanathamasatarn Rescue immediately transferred the deceased's body to Sattahip Hospital for an autopsy.

    Mr. Amnuay Luengwilai, the victim's employer, told police that at 5am, he'd heard the sound of argument between the workers. Later the same day, he found Mr. Man was missing and had a report from a worker that there was a pool of blood in the tapioca field 20 metres away, the deceased body of Mr. Man was found buried in a newly dug hole in the ground.

  8. At 11.00 pm. on 6th December 2008 Pol.Maj.Gen. Wittaya Yuenyong received a call that a thief had been caught at Sombat Condo, Pratumnak Soi 5.

    Arriving at the scene police found the suspect, Mr. Ek Wongtham (25), from Sra-gaew province, who had been detained. The victim, Mr. Bent Borge Christensen (69), a Danish citizen, had been injured all over his body, and pointed out the suspect to the police.

    Examining Mr. Christensen’s room, 539/48 on the 6th floor, police found it had been ransacked and there were signs of a break-in through the window. A notebook computer and the suspect's tools were also in the room.

    Mr. Christensen told police that he and his Thai wife had just arrived in Pattaya. They had gone out for dinner and on returning were surprised that the room was locked from the inside and the light was on. He immediately went to inform security to investigate. Coming back to his room, the thief was caught red-handed trying to move his property out of the room.

  9. At 03.30 on December 7th, 2008, Pattaya police deputy superintendent Pol.Lt.Col. Sutham Chaosrithong was notified that a tourist had been the victim of a snatch and run in front of Nova Lodge, Central Pattaya.

    Police officers rushed to the scene where they found Mr. Muller Helmut Bernd (43), from Germany and Miss June Lyth (50), from the UK waiting for help. Both had scrape wounds on their bodies.

    Mr. Bernd told police that he had ridden Miss Lyth on his motorbike to go back to a hotel at Naklua after having some drinks. At the Dolphin Roundabout, two men on a motorbike drove close to them and the passenger snatched Miss Lyth's bag containing 2,000 Baht, 15 Pound Sterling and many other documents. The thieves then sped away heading for the beach road. Mr. Bernd shouted for help and chased the suspects but he and Miss Lyth fell off the motorbike in front of Nova Lodge. The suspects had thrown the bag on the roadside and ridden away.

    Subsequently, police pursued the thieves until they eventually crashed into a Baht-bus in front of Pratumnak Soi 17, South Pattaya. Police arrested Mr. Sakol Jantaraporn or nickname "Gluay" (24), from Pijit province and Mr. Komkrit Ketsorn or nickname "Nok" (22), from Chonburi, and confiscated as evidence a red and black Suzuki Smash, red license No. 13-165, Sriracha.

  10. On Saturday Afternoon, staff and management at the new Village Shopping Center located on the Sukuvit Road in Jomtien, welcomed over 100 mini coopers and 30 Harley Davidson Motorbikes who are members of the Thailand Mini Cooper Club.

    They had begun the day at the Robinson’s Department Store in Sriracha and had spent the day taking part in a Charity Ride.

    Stops were made at a Mangrove Forest in Sattahip where a tree planting ceremony took place and at the Pattaya Orphanage where a donation was handed over to the Father Ray Foundation.

    Late on Saturday Afternoon, the group made their way to their final stop at The Village Shopping Center where they took part in a number of driving and rally games and were then treated to some delicious food and entertainment provided by The Village Shopping Center.

  11. On Friday Night, Police Lieutenant Colonel Sutum was called to the back of the Areca Lodge Hotel in Soi Diana Inn, Central Pattaya, following reports of a suspected case of theft from a parked car.

    Police arrived and noticed the passenger window of a red Honda Civic had been smashed. The car radio and a Buddhist emulate had been taken according to the car owner, Khun Natapong aged 32.

    There was also a second car, a Bronze Toyota Camry, which had sustained a broken windscreen. 4 Buddhist Emulates and a bag containing a quantity of cash had been taken from the car owned by Khun Chalermchai aged 65.

    Police conducted an on-scene investigation and approached a security guard working at a Hotel nearby who appeared nervous. He was in a drunken state and quickly confessed to the thefts.

    Khun Mana aged 32 explained that this was the first time he had involved himself in criminal activities and was desperate for cash. He was arrested and charged with 2 cases of theft and is currently behind bars awaiting a court appearance.

  12. Further celebrations to mark the 81st Birthday of His Majesty the King.

    Following on from our report on yesterday’s show on the local celebrations for His Majesty the King’s 81st Birthday, we now conclude our coverage of this auspicious day.

    In the evening a parade took place along Pattaya Beach Road and finished-up at the Bali Hai Port via Walking Street. Every Police and volunteer division along with government workers and members of the public also took part in the parade.

    At the Port a stage had been erected featuring a 6 foot high portrait of His Majesty. Khun Itipon, the Mayor of Pattaya led many hundreds in paying Homage to His Majesty and wishing him a very Happy Birthday.

    A candlelight ceremony featuring a recital of the National Anthem and other songs praising the King took place as Thai’s and foreigners came together to celebrate this auspicious day.

    A fireworks display signified the end of the celebration and also ends our look into this special day in the Thai Calendar.

  13. On the 5th December, the Kingdom of Thailand celebrates the Birthday of His Majesty the King, who, this year, is 81 years of age.

    On this day around Thailand celebrations take place, ranging from official government ceremonies to small family gatherings. The 5th December is also known as “Fathers Day” and is a time to pay your respects to your Father.

    On Friday Morning in the grounds of Banglamung City Hall, we attended the formal ceremony for the District led by Khun Mongkol, the Chief of Banglamung District. Offerings were made to 81 Buddhist Monks from around the District and this was followed by a formal ceremony involving 9 Monks which culminated in a Gun Salute from Banglamung Police who fired a total of 21 times into the air.

    Local Government Officers and Police Officers from around the District also took part in the event which paid homage to His Majesty the King on this special day.

  14. In the early hours of Friday Morning, Police Lieutenant Colonel Sutum, the Deputy Chief of Pattaya Police was called to the Lek Hotel in front of Soi 12 off Pattaya Second Road, following reports of a stabbing incident.

    The injured man, Khun Samorn aged 31 was taken to the Pattaya Memorial Hospital suffering from a stab wound to his left ear.

    He explained to Police that he worked at a Steak Restaurant in Soi Diana Inn, Central Pattaya. He left work and was waiting in front of a nearby 7-Eleven Convenience Store for his Girlfriend when a man named as “Dier”, who workes at a Beer Bar located close to the store, arrived at the same time as the victim’s girlfriend.

    The drunken bar worker began to speak in an improper manner to the woman. Khun Samorn questioned Khun Dier’s actions and a fight started. Khun Dier produced a knife and stabbed the victim in his ear and then fled the scene. He is now being located by Police.

  15. Just before Dawn on Friday, Police Lieutenant Piashon from Sattahip Police Station along with rescue workers attended the scene of a horrific road accident on the Sukumvit Road, in front of the Somprason Village in Sattahip District.

    This single vehicle accident resulted in the death of three people and injuries to a further 5 people inside the car, including 3 children.

    The car was driven by Khun Griengai aged 35 who was bringing his family from Pijit Province in the North of Thailand to Sattahip for a Sports Day for staff of the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives.

    It appears that the driver fell asleep at the wheel according to those who survived the crash. The Bronze Isuzu D-Max pick-up then collided with a pylon in the central reservation. The driver of the pick-up was one of those killed in the crash.

  16. In the early hours of Thursday Morning, Pattaya Police organized an undercover drug operation at the Caltex Petrol Station in North Pattaya.

    The target was a suspected drug dealer who was lured to the location by an undercover officer posing as a drugs buyer. The target, Khun Somai aged 35, a former Police Volunteer, arrived at the location as planned and a drugs transaction took place.

    Police then moved in and arrested the man who was caught in possession of a loaded gun and 2 packets weighting 1.7g of Crystal Methamphetamine, known in Thailand as “Ya Ice”. He was later charged with dealing in a class 1 drug and will appear in court next week.

  17. Mobile Passport Application Center opens.

    On Wednesday Morning, we made our way to the Nusa Playa Hotel located in Soi 13 off Jomtien Beach Road to check-out the Mobile Passport Application Unit which has come here to the Pattaya area until 7th December. This is great news for local Thai’s who would normally have to travel to Bang Na in the outskirts of Bangkok to make the application. We arrived early on Wednesday Morning and the numbers of applicants was low, however we were told by staff that from late morning onwards the numbers dramatically increased.

  18. The global economic crisis is starting to bite here in Thailand. This, combined with airport closures and continuing political instability, means that some companies are finding it hard to survive and workers are beginning to become frustrated knowing that their employment status is under threat.

    On Wednesday Morning we attended a protest of 3,000 workers at the Cobra International Company, a sports and leisure goods reseller located at the Amata Nakhon Industrial Park in Chonburi District.

    Workers have seen a 60% fall in commissions over the past 3 months and the staff were demanding an increase in commissions otherwise the workers would walk out from 4th December until 24th December.

    The demands on the company were given over and it was decided that the company would now close indefinitely which left protesters red faced as their protest was now effectively futile. However employees have vowed to send a report to the Chonburi Labor Department and fight for compensation.

  19. On Wednesday Morning, Police Colonel Somnook, the Chief of Banglamung Police, made his way to the Bira International Racing Circuit to investigate a suspected case of murder.

    At the scene, officers were directed to a hammock containing the body of Khun Somshai aged 51 who is employed as a security guard at the circuit. The victim’s hands and feet were tied together and severe trauma injuries consistent with repeated blows to the head were evident. The Guard was employed to guard a room containing 1,000cc racing motorbikes.

    Mr. Richard Knight, the English owner of the bikes confirmed that 4 of them with a combined value of 2 Million Baht, had been stolen. Mr. Knight confirmed that previous to the theft he received a call from a Thai Man who was enquiring about the bikes and also wanted to know where they were stored. Fingerprints and other forensic evidence was removed from the scene as Police hunt for the killer or killers.

  20. On Tuesday Evening, Police Lieutenant Colonel Chaiyaporn from Banglamung Police Station was called to the Sukumvit Road in Jomtien following the discovery of a badly decomposed body in undergrowth.

    The Officer arrived and inspected the body which is thought to be that of a foreigner due to the large size of the corpse. It is thought the man had been dead for many days due to the state of decomposition.

    No identification could be found for the man, however a bottle of insect killer was found nearby and Police suspect the man may have committed suicide at the location.

    The body was discovered by a bulldozer driver who had stopped to urinate in the bushes. A post mortem examination is now underway as Police await confirmation of how the man died and who he is.

  21. With all the problems occurring here in Thailand at the moment, someone or something was smiling down on us on Monday Night. All eyes were directed towards the skies to witness a rare event.

    For those interested in the technicalities of the event which resembled a smiling face, the planet Venus was lying 2 degrees south of Jupiter and the crescent moon appeared directly beneath both planets which are the brightest planets in the sky.

    Here in Pattaya the phenomenon caused a stir and many believe this is a sign from above for all Thai’s to forget about the troubles and make peace with each other. For those that missed the smile, I am afraid you will have to wait another 44 years before it returns on November 18th 2052.

  22. Just after 2am on Tuesday, Police Lieutenant Nitipoom from Banglamung Police Station was called to the Sukumvit Road in front of the Bangkok Hospital Pattaya to deal with a fatal road accident.

    The crash involved a Toyota Fortuna which failed to stop at the scene of the accident and a motorbike driven by a lady known only as “Nid”. She was killed in the crash which, according to eye witnesses, took place when the speeding Fortuna collided with the rear of the slow moving motorbike.

    A passenger on the bike, Khun Manop aged 29 was seriously injured and rushed to Hospital but is expected to fully recover.

    CCTV is now being checked as Police hunt for the Fortuna and its driver.
