  1. Having said that I am probably in the minority of people willing to pay a premium for an outstanding Sunday lunch - as I say I have never yet found it in Thailand.

Digger,I heard a rumour that Manhattans are about to start/have started doing a Sunday roast for around 6 or 7 hundred baht.

If I was going into town for a roast I would still go to the Sportsman's, Soi 13, but it'll be interesting to see if the food is better at Manhattans

  2. I went to Sure Park tonight for the 1st time in ages. I was very surprised by the lack of customers but still very happy with the food and service.

As I was still stuffed by my roast beef dinner from The Courtyard earlier (yes I finally got a Yorkshire pudding and there was so much beef that I expected to see a tail at one end of my plate and a set of horns at the other, but I digress)

Any way, where was I....oh yes

I had Thai food for the 1st time at Sure Park which was very good and I recommend it to all.

As I was leaving I was handed a flyer for a charity night they are holding on the 10th October, which I will attempt to type out before I get double vision from over hydration, here goes.....

Help us raise money for the children of Bann Jring Jai Childrens Home on Nurn Plab Wan.

There will be a live band and an all you can eat BBQ, all for 300 baht.

All funds raised will be presented to Kru Ta, Principal of Bann Jring Jai on 5th Dec.

Sounds like a great excuse to get pissed for a good cause. Unfortunately I'll be off shore by then so maybe someone can post about how it went.

  3. Early on Friday Afternoon, Police Lieutenant Colonel Sumreun from Pattaya Police Station was called to the Marina Inn Plaza Hotel located in Soi Yensabai, South Pattaya to investigate an apparent murder.

Inside room number 208 on the 2nd Floor was the body of the room occupant, Khun Wannigar aged 27.

Tied around her neck was a mobile phone charger cable and stab wounds were evident on her back and neck. There were no signs of a struggle in the room which suggested to Police that the attacker may have been known by the victim.

There were pictures around the room of the victim with foreign men and according to Khun Sootsakorn aged 42, a cleaner at the Hotel who discovered the body, she was often seen with foreign men and was known to have Italian and German, long-term boyfriends.

She would also wear a Gold Necklace and carry 2 mobile phones with her at all times, which may have attracted the attention of potential thieves, according to Police.

These items appear to have been stolen by whoever killed Khun Wannigar.

The knife used in the attack is now being analyzed by Forensic Police and the victims former Thai Husband is now being contacted and her foreign boyfriends are being tracked down as Police attempt to solve the mystery behind this disturbing case of murder and robbery.

  4. In the early hours of Saturday Morning, Police Lieutenant Colonel Jackgarit from Banglamung Police Station was called to Banglamung Hospital to investigate the aftermath of a shooting which occurred near the Train Track in Soi Nong Mai.

The victim of the shooting was Khun Sorasak aged 21, a Sawang Boriboon Rescue Volunteer, who was off-duty at the time of the shooting.

He sustained a gun shot wound in his cheek and was thankfully not seriously injured.

He explained that he had arranged to meet a man named as Khun Tong at the location. The man soon arrived and instead of selling the victim a gun, he produced his own gun and shot at Khun Sorasak.

The victim claimed that Khun Tong intended to steal the money he had planned to use to purchase the gun and Khun Tong would have been well aware that Khun Sorasak was in possession of this money at the time of the shooting.

It is thought that the presence of others at the scene deterred the shooter from committing the robbery. The search for Khun Tong is underway.

  7. One place worth mentioning is the Rainbow- it's located on Soi Siam, right next to the PGA Driving range. We get there a fair bit, as we live close by. They deliver locally too.

It's very reasonably priced, and has a fairly large mainly Thai menu, but also does some farang food like steaks (which are pretty good for 200bht, if a bit stingy on the chips) and hamburgers (nothing special, but OK).

Probably their standout dishes are noodles- always very good, and wife agrees. My favourite is the Pad Siu, but every one can be recommended- and at 45-65 bht, great value. I've paid far more for worse noodle dishes. Another favourite is the Khaeng Liang, that pumpkin based dish. But it's all pretty good, and reliable.

One warning- if you go there for lunch, recommend you stick to the tried and true like their noodle dishes, or set lunches (good value these). Theres always an owner there at night, but rarely for lunch- which means you can encounter some farcical situations. Like the day they managed to get all three dishes wrong- chicken n chips instead of fish n chips for example. :o

But it's a pleasant place, worth a try if you're around the area. The beers well cold, because it's served with a tankard with ice in the bottom, which may not be for everyone.

With a review like that I'm sure you'll have them queueing down the road :D

The suspect had been following Khun Chaiya during the day and despite objections from his girlfriend, who was riding as passenger in the bike, he allegedly shot the victim and then shot twice into the air following the attack to keep people away from the scene.

He is now facing charges of murder and class 1 drugs charges relating to the discovery of Yabba Tablets inside his room during the investigation.
