my wife does my tax return since 10+ years for me. she is using always my pink id card, never had any problems ...

Exactly the same here. I have never had any problems

All I am saying is that this year they asked for a copy of every page of mu y passport.  I didn't have problems this time either. The money was refunded immediately.

  2. This year I managed to get some tax-returns ( as I have done a few times previously), but this time the revenue department wanted a copy of every page of my passport to check that I had lived here more than 180 days.

So I can see how they how going to check whether you have stayed here 179 or 181 days.

What if you transfer (Wise) all of your income to your wife or girlfriend’s Thai bank account and withdraw from that account as and when required, would that work?

We all trust our wives and GF’s 555

    Your wife will be taxed.

The headline says "New tax rules for foreigners", but the new tax rules also cover Thai people.

  4. I also use True and have been complaining to them for the past 2 weeks.

The speed is ok during the day, but at about 7 pm it suddenly drops and I am getting 3 Mbps. Using a VPN I can get 300 Mbps.

Their technician has been here several times but he doesn't seem to understand the issue.

  5. Uhm I know a Thai girl who studies at an international school where they have to read a lot of text books and novels in English. The students receive them as PDFs and this particular girl immediately uses Google translate. She never reads the novels , but only downloads summaries from the Internet and somehow manages to pass all her exams.

So I guess her statistics show that she reads 12 - 15 books each semester, where in fact she only skims the downloaded summaries.

To be fair though, I have noticed that 1 or 2 (not more) students at university read books, whereas 20 years ago that number would have been 0.

Sorry, if this is a stupid question. I see many write about QR codes and phones; is it not possible to pay using contact free payment with the chip on a credit card?

In Denmark, which I believe was the frontrunner in digital payment, not Sweden, we use contact less payment with a credit card. Very fast and very convenient.

I was in Denmark about a month ago. When ever I paid cash, people were so surprised. Yes, a quick tap of the payment card on the machine and all is well. I lived there 25 years ago and even then we used the DK card for most payments.

The QR code system using the mobile is far too slow. If shops and so on had a small card terminal then it would be ok for a cashless society, but then how would you pay the small street vendors and motorcycle taxis?

Yes indeed. I did this years ago at my local amphur office in Bangkok. Got my yellow book and, incidentally, a pink ID card at the same time. Both have proven useful.

Agree with you but the Yellow book and pink card are so damned hard to get. I have tried 5 times now and each time was told  that they were too busy. I started the fifth application 3 months ago. It seems I may get it this time...... if I give a 10,000 Baht tip.

I agree. I don't like it when they pull items out of thin air but its their game and you have to play by their rules. Its always great to know what the real regs say but you can put yourself at a disadvantage when you act entitled and start arguing about a extra  piece of paper. You generally won't get to far and if you do it can come back to you in different ways

I have all my original documents (including my birth certificate. mother's death certificate) in a folder. I take that with me every time I visit a government office as you never know what they will ask for. I have also been asked at some government offices, if I was "interested in giving a tip" so I usually have 2K cash. I hate to pay more.

On an additional note: I did NOT have the 10K cash on me when applying for the yellow house book.

Police Regulations ,  TM30 in the case where a foreigner returns to the same address were published in the Royal Gazette in June 2020, effective 30 June 2020

    Summary here -

    http://www.ratchakitcha.soc.go.th/DATA/PDF/2563/E/141/T_0001.PDF

What this means is that having once filed a TM30, if the foreigner temporarily stays elsewhere, but returns to his registered place of residence within the validity of his current permission of stay, or a valid multiple entry visa or a re entry permit and returns to his already registered place of permanent residence, then there is no requirement to file a further TM30.

    See attached files

This is published in the Respected Royal Gazette of Thailand, no Immigration office in the country is above the Royal Gazette.

    Peace.

    TM30 reporting regulation (Eng).pdf 41.16 kB · 0 downloads TM30- 2020 regulation-Thai.PDF 319.84 kB · 0 downloads

This may well be the requirement, but in September when I went to extend my visa they asked for an updated TM 30. I had been to Phuket for 3 days. It wasn't a problem as my wife (house owner) was with me and updated there and then. Went out to print a copy for them.

Everything depends on the mood of the officer processing the extension. I have seen them disagree many times.

This behavior is not limited to a certain nationality.  I'm an American. I take no joy in hearing that the accused is British. The United Kingdom has always been a loyal and steadfast friend to my country. I dont understand the constant nation bashing that goes on here. I wish the moderators/management would put a stop to it.

I have been teaching at a university for over 20 years and I have probably heard of at least 10 cases where Thai male teachers at upcountry secondary schools have asked girls to "help clean their offices" and have raped and abused them. When the girls get too old they choose a new victim.

I have had two students confess that it happened to them, but they never complained "as most people knew about it anyway."

I do not have a pink card.

what do you mean by collecting Thai social security ?

I have SS and it has covered my hospital bills (millions over the years).

Have you retired? When you retire you can continue paying SS yourself, otherwise you lose the medical insurance.

In order to continue paying, you need a pink ID card, It was confirmed once again today at my SS office.

This from CAAT with the agreed effective date. The pink ID card is described as a Non-Thai ID card, the very same thing we are talking about here.

Yes, it seems that the pink ID card is OK. I have sometimes used my driving license even though I always carry my passport when travelling.

There is one little point that is slightly ambiguous and could be misinterpreted.  It says "passengers who have lost or unable to present the documents."  If you carry your passport, then you are able to present it.

Anyway, lets hope people don't have problems.
