I agree. I don't like it when they pull items out of thin air but its their game and you have to play by their rules. Its always great to know what the real regs say but you can put yourself at a disadvantage when you act entitled and start arguing about a extra piece of paper. You generally won't get to far and if you do it can come back to you in different ways
I have all my original documents (including my birth certificate. mother's death certificate) in a folder. I take that with me every time I visit a government office as you never know what they will ask for. I have also been asked at some government offices, if I was "interested in giving a tip" so I usually have 2K cash. I hate to pay more.
On an additional note: I did NOT have the 10K cash on me when applying for the yellow house book.

Police Regulations , TM30 in the case where a foreigner returns to the same address were published in the Royal Gazette in June 2020, effective 30 June 2020
Summary here -
http://www.ratchakitcha.soc.go.th/DATA/PDF/2563/E/141/T_0001.PDF
What this means is that having once filed a TM30, if the foreigner temporarily stays elsewhere, but returns to his registered place of residence within the validity of his current permission of stay, or a valid multiple entry visa or a re entry permit and returns to his already registered place of permanent residence, then there is no requirement to file a further TM30.
See attached files
This is published in the Respected Royal Gazette of Thailand, no Immigration office in the country is above the Royal Gazette.
Peace.
TM30 reporting regulation (Eng).pdf 41.16 kB · 0 downloads TM30- 2020 regulation-Thai.PDF 319.84 kB · 0 downloads
This may well be the requirement, but in September when I went to extend my visa they asked for an updated TM 30. I had been to Phuket for 3 days. It wasn't a problem as my wife (house owner) was with me and updated there and then. Went out to print a copy for them.
Everything depends on the mood of the officer processing the extension. I have seen them disagree many times.

Not really a new requirement, but when I renewed my extension 3 months, the first thing they asked for was the TM30. I had all my documents and copies with me in a folder. Sometimes they do ask for something different.

This behavior is not limited to a certain nationality. I'm an American. I take no joy in hearing that the accused is British. The United Kingdom has always been a loyal and steadfast friend to my country. I dont understand the constant nation bashing that goes on here. I wish the moderators/management would put a stop to it.
I have been teaching at a university for over 20 years and I have probably heard of at least 10 cases where Thai male teachers at upcountry secondary schools have asked girls to "help clean their offices" and have raped and abused them. When the girls get too old they choose a new victim.
I have had two students confess that it happened to them, but they never complained "as most people knew about it anyway."

Why not?

I do not have a pink card.
what do you mean by collecting Thai social security ?
I have SS and it has covered my hospital bills (millions over the years).
Have you retired? When you retire you can continue paying SS yourself, otherwise you lose the medical insurance.
In order to continue paying, you need a pink ID card, It was confirmed once again today at my SS office.

At the SSO office, you don't need a pink card to start SS nor to continue after finishing work (at my local one)
When did you finish work?
I called the SSO head office and it is a requirement now
It was inttroduced sometme laSt year.

I never had such a card or the YHB when I registered with SSO.
I used my tax ID no.
Yes, when registering with SSO a tax ID is sufficient, but when switching from section 33 to 39 they require proof of permanent residence. Yellow house book or pink ID card.

Yes, it seems that the pink ID card is OK. I have sometimes used my driving license even though I always carry my passport when travelling.
There is one little point that is slightly ambiguous and could be misinterpreted. It says "passengers who have lost or unable to present the documents." If you carry your passport, then you are able to present it.
Anyway, lets hope people don't have problems.

Thanks all again for the interesting chats.
I had PR and obtained yellow book long time back, way before launch of pink id card. Now retired. Wanting to apply for BBL new M credit card. Was told new regulations include pink id card in addition to other doc.
I think this odea of "new regulations" seems to be occurring everywhere. They neeed more control of us foreigners.

You most certainly do not need a pink ID to continue Thai SS payments.
They want proof of permanent residency. At first the said Pink ID card and later after I called the head office they siad yellow house book. New requirements.

I got it from JJ district office.
Easy (just showed up).Quick (30min).
Cheap (60 Baht).
Passport, yellow tabian baan, marriage certificate, and something the wife had to sign in the office.
I have just this minute returned from my third trip to the didtrict office. First time to enquire and check that I had the right documents. I needed a new certified translation of passport.
Second time I had all the documents but the girl didn't know how to process the application.
Today, I took 2 witnesses and they told me that I needed my driving license (I had it with me), which is strange because you can use yellow book to renew license and license to get yellow book. Ok never mind.
He then took the documents and said :"come back in a month." I told him I needed the yellow book urgently, but his response was that Valentines Day is coming up, so they are busy.
They were too busy whe we had the floods, then 4 or 5 months after the coup was told to wait as uncertain times.
Then 6 months before a big funeral they were too busy
Then local elections - too busy
Then general election - too busy
I managed to book a time in the week before Valentines day, but was told "be prepared for cancellation."

Pink ID cards or as the authorities clumsily label them, "non-Thai ID cards", along with the Thai DL, are still on the approved list of acceptable alternative forms of personal ID fopr domestic air travel.
Not from January 16th
Edit: yes here it says Thai drivinbg license. In another article I read they stressed passport because of the need to check overstays

The district office WHERE?
Can I answer that question when I have the yellow house book and pink ID card.
It's in Bangkok and notorious for being difficult to deal with. We gave up trying to get married here and went to another district.
We tried for 18 months to get planning permission to build our house, but they always found little details that needed to be changed. In the end our architect suggeted that we paid the "district architect" 100K to complete the design. A few days later we received planning permission.

it being the Pink ID specifically...
It is accepted as an individual document....
- When checking in for a domestic flight (passport not available)
- When checking in at a hotel
- When using it for ID at a bank
- Switching SIM (to eSIM).
- Getting Thai Price at some places that use Dual Pricing (but not national parks)
*Others will argue that a Thai DL can be used for the same purposes but I've had mixed experiences with that - and of course, experience varies from person to person and various locations etc.
Incidentally, I read today that from January 2024 all foreigners on domestic flights MUST now show passports and not other forms of ID. Worth checking up!

Good grief never heard of such a thing…someone got to be pulling your leg, a pink id is not needed to collect SSI, at least for a US citizen.
I think we are talking about two different things. My employer and I have been paying to the Thai Social Security for 20 years. Now I have retired I want to continue paying myself to obtain the free medical treatment. I have 2 months in which to do it or I lose my right to Thai social security.

If it's that important for you use an agent, some offices (Pattaya) make it difficult for farang, amongst other things they want you to drag 2 thai people up there who are on a blue book, they will always have better things to do
My wife accompanied me. We are legfally married and she is the legal owner of the house. We were simply turned away before we even started the process. They were "too busy at the moment."
I went about a month ago to confirm the documents needed and I didn't have an original translation of the certied passport. I used the original at the same office to get married. They would not accept a copy. Another 6 week wait for an appointment at the embassy.

The certified translation of your passport is a standard requirement for obtaining the yellow book and will need to be done by a Thai government office. If you're in Bangkok I think that it can be done at one of the government offices in the complex out in CW. Fee is around 1,000 Baht I recall, plus a small extra processing fee if you want to have it done for you while you wait.
Birth certificate don't know about. Never heard of that as a requirement for anything in Thailand. Passport already certifies your date and place of birth.
" Passport already certifies your date and place of birth. ' I agree entirely, but it often seems that Thai government officers like to have proof of proof.
You can't marry without an affidavit with freedom to marry, yet when you apply for a visa they need your original marriage certificate and the affadavit.
When I renewed my driving license I had to shoow my passport to get in and start the process and again at every stage.

It's a new requirement.
My friend retired 2 years ago and din't need it.
I retired 4 months ago and it was the first thing they asked for. I have 2 months to get one or I lose the social security.

To be honest I think they should do this with all foreigners who actually live ere more than 3 months.
They could then integrate the pink card ID number into their stupid IT payment systems, so that foreigners are not always barred from using some applications and payment gateways.

See my comment. I need a pink ID card to continue my social security. Thailand is changing and the pink ID card is used as proof of residency more and more

I thought the same as you until I tried to continue my social security payments after my reirement. "Sorry, you need the pink ID card and yellow book."
I have applied 3 times over the past 5 or 6 years, but have beenn "rejected" each imes as "they were too busy."
I am in the process of applying now. I need marriage certificate, certified translation of my passport, blue house book ( the house is in my wife's name). Anything else? I will find out tomorrow when I go to the district office for the third time in 2 months.

Agree with you but the Yellow book and pink card are so damned hard to get. I have tried 5 times now and each time was told that they were too busy. I started the fifth application 3 months ago. It seems I may get it this time...... if I give a 10,000 Baht tip.
