The Russians are claiming that it was the British who actually did this, with television personality, and ranter, Vladimir Solovyov going as far as to say it was a British special service operation. This is despite having an Uzbekistani man in custody. "Step forward the Kremlin’s mouthpieces to exclusively reveal the dark truth behind the killing — apparently, the British did it. In unison, they blamed the omnipresent “Anglo-Saxons,” Russia’s favored code words for the intelligence masters in London". Medvedev is, as per usual, one of the strongest proponents of these claims: "Former Russian President, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev was incensed by an editorial in the London-based Times newspaper because it described Kirillov’s killing as a legitimate act of defense.  “It is impossible to ignore The Times.
