Fees set for taxis hailed online: 60 baht minimum charge
Xonax replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Last week when we booked to be picked up by Grab, they provided a tiny Nissan Note, which was very uncomfortable to sit in. It seems like the Grab cars are getting smaller and smaller every time we book. So we will now probably go back to hailing normal taxi's, which will be a decently sized Toyota Altis or similar. -
Bars, pubs and nightclubs in Thailand could remain closed until 2022

If the government do have a wish to kill Walking-street and other red-light venues in Pattaya, there will never in a million years come a better moment than right now. -
Live your lives normally, but carefully, says Vachira director

Your theory is correct, only if the virus could travel by itself. But the fact is, that it always travel attached to small droplets, which most often will be caught in a good mask. -

Many rice farmers grow in order to benefit from the government handouts to rice farmers. Maybe it would be better to pay some of them not to grow?

Flood warning for Nakhon Ratchasima and southern provinces
Xonax replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
Flood mismanagement is to blame, but could flooding possibly have been avoided? If all dams were nearly empty before the start of the rainy season, it would be possible to manage the water level properly. But the responsible are always afraid that, in case of less than average rainfall, this could mean, that there maybe would not be enough water for farming and consumption. So they will instead keep as much water as possible in the dams, before the start of the rainy season. Thailand seems to be farming much more rice, than they can consume and sell with a reasonable profit, so maybe flood protection should be prioritized, rather than farming as much rice as possible? -

Life on the roads here in Bangkok and suburbs has been way more dangerous since early 2020. The number of delivery motorbikes has increased drastically and they are all racing like crazy, in order to deliver as many orders as possible in a day. In addition, half of these delivery motorbikes have been modified with noisy exhausts and are making a lot of noise in the previously quiet neighbourhoods. Many of them using the horn or shouting to alert customers, instead of getting off the motorbike and ring the bell. I suggest that as a start all delivery motorbikes should be inspected monthly and not be allowed to be on the streets with illegal modifications. Furthermore the RTP should wake up and be more active on the roads.

฿130m ‘stolen’ from over 10,000 Thai bank accounts in just four days
Xonax replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
If possible, I only do online shopping from wellknown respectable websites. Almost two years ago, I purchased a few items from Wish which, at least for me, was a new site. A week later I started receiving order confirmations in Russian language on items from different sellers, which I would definitely never be interested in. Luckily I acted fast and managed to cancel the orders on the website and immediately cancelled the creditcard I had used. I believe that my Wish account had been hacked by a Russian hacker, and that the hacker was just not smart enough to change my email and password before committing the fraud. I guess it is needless to say, that I have never again shopped on Wish. I believe that all 10,700 victims of this recent fraud, must have something in common and have used their creditcard at the same website. I would suggest, that the investigators start by asking every victim, if they have recently done online shopping on Wish or any other similar website. -
GPO sells ATKs at 40 baht per unit at eight of its retail stores
Xonax replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Bought a few last week in my local "wholesale" Pharmacy in Bangkok. Price 85 Baht/pc. Brand name Gica. They said that the exact same tests were sold in 7-eleven. Not worth it for me to travel acrross the city. I live in Bangkok, but the nearest GPO shop on the list is 20 kms away. -
Tourists would be more happily welcomed by the Thais, if less mass tourism were taking place. But unfortunately their leaders have not wanted it that way. Places like Phuket, Pattaya, Samui, Chiang Mai, Hua-Hin and other areas have complete lost their local vibe, which must be a huge pain in the ass for the locals, who are not making a living of tourism. But they should direct their anger towards the local leaders, rather than blaming the tourists for the mass tourism. If you allow building of multiple hotels and resorts, you will also have to welcome the tourists that will be visiting.

Thailand's healthcare system ranked among best in the world
Xonax replied to Jonathan Fairfield's topic in Thailand News
A few years ago I had a quite expensive back surgery in a top hospital in Bangkok. After being released by the doctor, I had to wait 7 hours before I was allowed to leave the hospital, as the hospital had to negotiate the payment with my insurance company, before I could be allowed to leave. Since this single incident made me a burdon to my insurance company (international), they decided to load an additional 25% on my already expensive premium for the following two years. -
Thailand's healthcare system ranked among best in the world
Xonax replied to Jonathan Fairfield's topic in Thailand News
I do my best to avoid doctors in Thailand. My personal experience is, that if they are unable to properly diagnose a disease, they will come up with a fantasy-diagnose, which requires at least 4 different medications of which one will be antibiotics, suggest you to do expensive blood tests, suggest you to do expensive scannings, prescribe you useless physical therapy or even advise you to get surgery for am imaginary disease as soon as possible. All this just to take as much of your money as possible. On top of all this, Thailands hospitals have a multi-level price list, in which poor foreign retirees will have to pay the highest price. -

Top Thai virologist claims herd immunity does not work with COVID-19
Xonax replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
You can not create herd immunity against the highly contageous Delta strain. It is all about getting as many as possible vaccinated, in order for the disease to become more manageable. Coronavirus infections is something we will have to learn to live with, as they will continue to be with us in the future, but can and should then be treated just like the annual flu. The people who have refused to be vaccinated, will mainly be the ones, that will be seriously sick or die from Corona virus. -
Now 7-day stay for Sandbox tourists from any country in the world
Xonax replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
My guess is, that the price will go up. Can a domestic traveller from Bangkok to Phuket now prove to be Covid free with self-testing using the Thai FDA-approved Anitgen Test Kit, or is this solely an option for Phuket residents?? Do we no longer need to show proof of at least one night reservation in a Phuket hotel?
