  1. I believe they are now operating under the parent name Orient-Thai Airlines. At least the sign on their office building in New Ratchada Road BKK has been changed from OneTwoGo to Orient-Thai Airlines.

  2. R.I.P. my fellow Dane.

I stayed at Print Kamala Resort a couple of years ago, and it is a quiet family oriented hotel, where heavy drinking would immediately be noticed.

Walking along the narrow street of Kamala Beach should be considered very unsafe 24 hours a day, even when you´re sober, so my guess is, that he could have been hit by a car. Maybe when walking home from one of the lady bars, located next to the junction, where the road to Kamala Beach meets the main road. Maybe just a one kilometer walk, but a narrow road with no sidewalks and with many local cars driving like crazy.

I hope that the BiB will discover the cause of dead very fast and not just assume that it was another suicide.

  3. Unfortunately the poor have been paid to vote. Thailand will stay in the corruption zone. :(

And they don´t understand at all, that continued widely spread corruption will result in, that the poor will keep getting poorer and the rich will keep getting richer :-)

I can only say that the voters of Thailand will get the government that they deserve!

  4. Definitely not suicide but murder!

Anyone who get themselves involved in dodgy business in Thailand, could easily end up as a dead corps. This is a calculated risk you have to take. The BIB do as little as possible to solve the such cases, as they are probably too busy doing dodgy business themselves. They could just run a proper investigation on the partner and the employees in the bar. If non of them are directly not behind the kill, one of them will most likely know exactly what happened and why.

If anyone was to commit suicide in Chaweng, they would definitely not choose a dirty lake with only one foot of water, when the Gulf of Thailand is just a hundred meters away!

  5. All beaches have a great scenery. Not many restaurants outside of Ao Nang, which by the way is a lot more family-oriented than Chaweng and Lamai (many resorts, restaurants and shops, but only a few bars and no bargirls). I can personally recommend Krabi Resort which is in north Ao Nang, and within walking distance to the beach road with the many shops and restaurants. Luxurious bungalows and nice rooms in the building too. In the low season all other beaches than Ao Nang wil be almost deserted.

  6. Very unlikely to have been a bar girl, unless a particularly stupid one. Security/traceability/accountability is one reason why guys choose bar girls over freelancers isn't it?

I agree that it must have been a streetwalker and not a bargirl, as a bargirl would be traceable from the bar. Indeed very stupid, if anyone bring a freelancer to their home or hotel. Always make sure that the hotel keeps the ID card of the woman during her visit, and make a photocopy or scan for eventually later use. Always keep an eye on your belongings, and never trust or accept any foods or drinks from someone you don´t know well.

  7. I'm confused.

Using surrogate mothers is quite common these days of medical tourism. Thousands of Americans, Brits, German, ect. couples that cannot, or do not want to "carry" a child routinely go to India where clinics arrange for the couples in vitro fertilized egg to be placed within the womb of the surrogate mother who is paid to carry the child to term, and not infrequently to age one or two, whereupon the child is retrieved. This is common and legal in India, so is this illegal in Thailand? And who are the fathers? Are these children created from the egg/sperm of a couple who cannot bear a child? When this is done in India the child, though born in India is not considered an Indian citizen. I would think that here the egg/sperm parents would not consider their child, even if carried to term by a Vietnamese in Thailand, either Thai or Vietnamese.

There are lot's of "takers" in India, for it is one of the few ways to earn perhaps $5-15,000 to be used for a grand wedding.

Is it the surrogate carriage of children that is forbidden, or the illegality of the Vietnamese mothers "working" in Thailand without a permit?

It is the Human Trafficking which is illegal! The babies are not sold to foster parents for THB 100000. The traffickers probably cash at least 10 times that price!

  8. Well you see ....when the UN awarded the temple to Phnom pen, the meant they should pack it up and take it to Phnom Penh

Oh well...no ones brain can function reasonably in Bangkok heat :)

    .....

When Cambodia won the last case we have abided by it?

I was unaware a legal ruling had a time limit, or in Thai this is this just until it suits me?

And a legal representation does not have to be bitter, merely a request for clarification.

When will these people ever grow up.

The 1962 judgement ruled on the temple. It specifically didn't rule on the land around it. The Thai's have abided by that ruling (on the temple) and are negotiating terms on the still disputed land. It appears that the Cambodians are spending a lot of time on the disputed land, and even have troops IN the temple, which is against the 2000 MOU signed between Cambodia and Thailand.

Kinda like a farang owning a house but not the land. LOL

Just offer Cambodia a renewable lease contract for the land, as the Thais do for all other foreigners

  9. Amazon will take care of it all, and even pay the taxes and duties in Thailand for you, though they will separately include it in the invoice you pay in advance.

They never charge any taxes or duties for my book shipments, but their freight costs are in general rather expensive. If you could only find the books in Thailand, the total comparable price would probably be around the same.

  10. What a waste of money! To me it sounds way too expensive! I guess that half of that money will be returned right into somebodys pockets.

Why not just install 8 more immigration booths and a sufficient number of cheap officials? They will need more officials anyway, to help people using the machines! Ohhh - I just forgot, that then there would not be loads of money, to be returned to somebodys pockets :whistling: .

The new machines will probably be out of order most of the time anyway, but at least somebody is trying to solve the problem.

  11. So how is this NOT discrimination, when Thai men over 50 are allowed to marry younger Thai women, but Farang men over 50 are not!

The main loosers will be the Thai ladies and The Kingdom of Thailand. The Thai ladies will not get the financial safety and stability a marriage to a farang normally would bring to her and her family, and The Kingdom of Thailand would be missing the loads of money, these older Farangs spend here.

Personally I am over 50 and already married to a 45 year old Thai woman. It makes me feel bad to know, that our marriage seems to be a problem for The Kingdom. If my wife should die before me (not unlikely), I would have to keep THB 800,000 in the bank (no problem), if I would like to stay in Thailand, and try not to fall in love again, as I would have to say: "Sorry Tirak, I love you mak mak - but I am not allowed to marry you"! Luckily I would still be able to move to Pattaya and rent a girlfriend by the hour, or more likely, I would probably choose to move to a more Farang over 50 friendly country!!!

  12. The HBO channel (112) is the same channel as shown on channel 43, but in a much better picture quality.

The HD Sports Channel (111) shows mainly the same as the other sports channels, but in a much better picture quality. Occasionally the HD Sports Channel shows premier League live matches that is not shown elsewhere.

Because the standard quality of True Vision Sports and movie channels really sucks, I find it necessary to pay the extra money, to watch the HD Sports Channel. I also have the Platinum Package, and the picture quality on the Platinum Movie Channels are far better than most other channels.

The Coffee Channel (113) must be a joke that only thais understand. I still wait for the HD program to be expanded in a serious way.

By the way - last night I watched "Thailand´s got talent" and that surely convinced me that they certainly don´t have any talent.
