  1. We drove from Rayong to Amnat Charoen which is pretty much the same, we used Google maps as well to, nice roads no issues just go around the bigger cities instead of through them. We spend 2 days on the trip taking it slow bought the best grapes I've ever tasted in the mountains somewhere near Khon Kaen, saw some spectacular sights. If it were me I would make a trip out of it.

I agree with the parking at the border its been a couple of years since I parked there it were 100 per day then but no issues and super friendly people and you can not miss it, coming from the main road turn right towards the border and then its the first left..

If its your first trip to Savannakhet you will be pleasantly surprised been there 4-5 times making an annual visa trip and love the place :)

If you go to Ubon by plane and then to Mukdahan by minibus its hell takes 2.5 hours and then you need to get to the border from the bus station, I have done the trip a couple of times also had a GF half way between Ubon and Mukdahan  and its no fun sitting in a cramped mini van.

Remember to buy the bus ticket for the border bus before you go through immigration.

  2. GF worked hard from having very little growing up to go through uni and becoming a civil servant, brother in law is career army, sister in law worked until recently and now studies to become a nurse, youngest brother in law just finishes 2 years in technical college and now have 6 months in a factory putting his newly learned electrician skills to the test.

None of them have gotten anything handed to them they have all worked their butts off to get where they are in life, the youngest my gf had to kick his ass and tell him to go to school and helped him get through it financially there have been a little favoritism with him but with him being the youngest (14 years from oldest to youngest) I think its more that then him being a boy.

  3. Competition for AirAsia have increased in the last few years maybe thats the reason.

When I moved close to Ubon there were 2 daily Thai Airways flights, then Air Asia moved in and had at a time 5 daily flights I think, then Nok Air and another company moved in on the route, now Air Asia have 2 of something like 13 daily flights on the route from 4 different companies.

  4. What the OP is trying to explain is how much bandwidth usage, including downloads and uploads per month does an ISP allow. Most packages, even the basic come with unlimited bandwidth as part of the deal.

Yeah, thats why they didn't understand his question. They do not understand the concept of monthly GB totals.

Yet when I call AIS about my mobile Internet, they understand exactly what Gb means in the context of downloads.

Because it have always existed on mobile downloads here and never on hard lines like ADSL, fiber or what it is called now a days. So for the hard lines the call center guy have never heard about it but the call center guy at a phone computer he knows all about it since a unlimited plan has never existed and neither care about what the other guy does.

  5. Most are not lactose intolerant from birth with is pretty lucky since there is lactose in breast milk but lactose intolerance can be developed over time if you don't drink milk, I rarely drank milk in 6 years in Thailand and as a result when I went home I had developed lactose intolerance.

  6. I am seriously considering making the move back to Thailand settling down and marrying my long time gf who is a government employee.

Normally her parents, husband and kids are covered under the health scheme from her work but the question is would I be covered as I am not a Thai national, anyone with any experience regarding this? Having health insurance through her would certainly be a huge plus when considering the pros and cons of moving back.

Any feed back would be appreciated

  7. You start making trouble for the Local police yourself, it won't go down very well, it might not be right, but it's the way it is.

There will never be an end to corruption in Thailand, and remember, the corruption money flows uphill, hence the reason the Generals are all fabulously wealthy on a paltry salary.

Leave it to the Insurance reps to sort out.

There is the problem, while I agree with everyone posting about reporting it, it comes down to, is it worth the hassle? I like to think I am a man of principle but I would let it go because down the road with the hassle these people can bring then its not worth it.

  8. I usually stayed at Outside Inn when overnighting in Ubon, Friendly guy running the place, good food, cozy place and good rooms no idea about the beer but its the place that would have a few imports. I believe they had Beer Lao when I were there last but it were then about a year ago hit and miss if they could get it delivered.

  9. Waking up from the anesthesia while they were prepping me for stomach surgery, I could hear everything going on around me but I was paralyzed, I tried to move, speak do anything to let them know I was not out but I couldn't, I have never in my life been so scared and in such a panic, I heard them say his pulse is raising fast, they opened one of my eyes and said I think he needs a little more, next thing I woke up after the surgery.

  10. As usual, the ignorant horde of Thai bashers jump at anything negative and vent their feelings. Well here is mine towards you:

To all those who feel the need/desire to 'jump' all over anything negative towards Thailand or the PM - why dont you instead jump on a plane back home?? And take with you your ignorant Expat/Western views on Democracy and Religion what is right and wrong in the Thailand. This is Thailand !!

You are not a Thai citizen. You cannot vote. You have no 'rights'. You cannot stay as long as you like. You are a VISITOR. And anything else I wish to say about you would be edited !!

You may well feel insulted - I DONT CARE. Stop insulting Thailand. This is THEIR country - not yours. Yes - there are many things wrong here. SO WHAT !!

Imagine going to Fiji on a two week holiday and then complaining every day about the military takeover that stopped a civil war/anarchy, and complaining that Fijians all do 'silly' things and behave 'silly' !!

Wake up !! There are problems everywhere in the world - you can get shot at school in USA . If you want the perfect place to live your 'un-enriched' lives - then go home and think about where that is, and then move there. Thailand is not 'perfect' - but I for one love it this way !!

Its not like the Thai citizens can vote either

  11. 27 dead and reports of a second bomb.... Gets sadder and sadder. sad.png

We can only hope that it isn't the insurgents from down south starting a campaign in the capital.

As someone mentioned before in this thread, if they take it to Phuket, Bangkok and Pattaya then things will be really bad for Thailand and the tourism industry, I am surprised it haven't happened I guess they fear the repercussions which are going to seem like a civil war.

  12. As she works for the government, it has proved much easier to register me as her legal husband and I now have an ID on the "system" and have been able to register for government healthcare as her spouse..

Thanks for this info I have been looking for it :)

I am most likely going to marry my gf and when we talked about healthcare as her husband she wasn't sure if it covered me because I am a foreigner.
